Don't forget, if you are modelling something with bolts in it you probably only need the head because the rest of the bolt will be hidden inside your model, so cut off the shank and thread to reduce the poly count. A default bolt has 1,063 verts, 1,080 faces and 2,090 tris. With a bit of cleaning up I got this down to 148 verts, 139 faces and 270 tris for a head only. If you are creating a lot of bolts around panels this can make a great deal of difference to the speed of your renders. similarly if you are creating nuts with bolt threads poking out you only need the bit of the bolt thread which you can see and you can get rid of the thread inside the nut because you won't see it. Obviously if you are animating a nut going onto or coming off a bolt, or else a bolt being unscrewed from a hole you would need to keep whatever you are going to see.
Thanks for the info! Yes, if your making something where you can't see the screw part, then its best to delete it. 👍
This is the most helpful video I have found for threads. It’s difficult trying to find specific videos for specific needs. Thank you for providing info.
Glad it was helpful!
You are a great instructor... I truly appreciate the time you put into your tutorials... You have helped me understand a host of things... That I once saw as alien instructions... I am still trying to master geometry nodes... Without taking a class... Nonetheless, I have come to the realization that I will have to fork over some dollars... Just so someone can tell me what has been right there in front of me... Thanks for sharing...
glad you like my videos!
You are always a great teacher. I learned blender 3D animation and drawing from your 11 part series where you start by modelling the house
cool, thanks for watching!
Thanks so much bro! Helped me a lot!
Glad it helped!
@@RyanKingArt I love your channel a lot! I subscribed and hope you will make it famous and successful one day!
Very cool, quick and easy to follow. Will be using this for some 3D prints I have in mind 😁
cool! thanks for watching 😀
If you clone the initial bolt and turn it into a nut, will it fit? Do the threads match? I will also print it if it's that easy to match the bolt and nut.
Thank you very much sir, its saving me a lot of time :D
glad it helped!
Yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah!
I already know what to do with this for one of my scenes!
Hey Ryan!
If you're open to feedback, now that you have a bunch of different types of tutorials, it might be cool to do one where you combine a few of your old tutorials to make a new project that shows how they can be mixed to make something original.
For example if you took one of your old furniture tutorials and applied some of the procedural texturing and overlays (fingerprints, dust etc) along with general lighting/rendering tips, to make a "standard prop" into one that looked thematic for a particular style. Such as if you turned a barstool into a cyberpunk barstool, or a bookshelf into a steampunk bookshelf, or a desk into a noir crime-scene desk.
Just throwing ideas out there, although I'm sure you have plenty. Thanks again!
Another thing might make a good video is Gobos. How you can make a scene seem way more dynamic just by putting some geometry in front of a light source that hints at other things outside of the frame, like a "tree foliage" gobo, or a "bare branches" gobo, or a "spinning fan" gobo, or a "barred window" gobo.
Open discussion to new gobo ideas!
That would seem like a neat 10-20 minute video that people could take and apply to a lot of different projects.
Plus I haven't seen one like that on any other blender channels.
*Bubba Gump Shrimp voice* :
Cobweb gobo...
Spiderweb gobo...
Flying bat gobo...
Flying bird gobo...
Giant snowflake gobo...
You gobo the idea.
@@BurnEdOutOne Thanks for the video ideas!
What to do if I wanted an M2 screw? As far as I can see it starts from M3. Thank you for this great tutorial!
Excellent, comes in handy for 3D prototype printing. thnx.
thanks for watching!
thanks man, I was just about to model a 'bolt' when I came across this vid. Thanks Ryan!
thanks for watching!
Thank you for the useful information you have provided.
Glad it was helpful!
great video straight forward
thanks!
Just what I needed to complete my project. Thanks, Ryan 👊.
glad it helped!
Thanks for the video, i like this addon I always have it enable, my only complying is that no have the flat screw driver shape, other than that the add is really cool.
Cool! 👍
Man thank you this was a great tutorial 🔥🔥🔥
Glad you liked it!
thanks my 3D teacher
you're welcome!
I really needed this tutrial. Thanks!
Cool! Hope its helpful!
@@RyanKingArt It is!
Glad to hear that!
for some reason i cant find it in the add-ons menu...has something changed recently?
Allen's are called Keys.
Good stuff,
thanks
Thank you
You're welcome
Thanks for this, now I can work easier
glad its helpful!
thks
Thank you for saving my butt once again, love you
glad it helped.
So cool
I can miling this
It is missing the Slot option for the bolt type head though, the most used :(
Oh, sorry.
Great tutorial, as always.
The default dimensions are huge. When I select a "metric" standard, for example: M10 the size is CRAZY.
How can I correct this defect?
just scale the objects way down, after you've made them. Then press Control A, and apply the scale.
@@RyanKingArt Yes, that's right. What, I mean:
Is there a new addon version that fix this issue?
Wowww this would be so incredibly useful for me!!
Cool!
Cool 😉👍
Thanks!
amazing😍😍
Thanks!
What Im concerned about is the nuts and bolts are in meters...
How do I change it? They are in meters for me even tho I changed scale in scene.
Thank you it's a great video. I've been having problems with that little pop up window on the bottom left that I accidentally make it disappear before I'm done adjusting things in there. What about the same kind of window after creating a circle?
glad it helped! 👍
👑
thanks!
super👍
thanks!
получите царский лайк! отличное видео!
Thanks!
What's the difference between using the Edge Split modifier like you've done and using Auto Smooth Normals (under Object Data Properties)? They seem to have the same effect for me...
Actually, I'm pretty sure they do the same thing. So you could use that instead if you want. : )
@@RyanKingArt Actually, I think that unlike the Edge Split modifier the Auto Smooth Normals option will NOT split the geometry which can be important if you are doing anything that requires a continuous manifold mesh without holes.
why is it in meter?
on default blender is in metric, but you can change it to imperial units in the settings if you want to.
i saw it in meter so do i need to scale it down manually? cuz no option
oh i found it from chatgpt
To change the units in Blender to millimeters (mm), follow these steps:
Open Blender and go to the "Scene" tab in the Properties window (located on the right side of the screen).
Under the "Units" section, change the "Unit System" to "Metric".
Next, change the "Length" unit to "Millimeters".
If you want to make this the default setting for all new Blender files, click the "Save User Settings" button at the bottom of the Properties window.
You can now create and edit your objects in millimeters. To verify that you are working in millimeters, you can check the dimensions of your objects in the "Transform" panel in the Properties window or by selecting the object and going to the "Object Data Properties" tab and looking at the "Dimensions" section.
Note: If you have already created objects in Blender and want to convert them to millimeters, you can select the objects and go to the "Object" menu at the top of the screen, choose "Apply," and then select "Scale." This will apply the current scale to the object and convert it to millimeters.
Blender has addons for everything I swear lol! How do you like Blender 3?
Blender 3.0 is awesome!!
@@RyanKingArt It's sooo fast!!! Have a good holiday! I've got a lot of your sculpting tutorials saved on a playlist so you'll be seeing a lot of me on here. :)
@@KatLovelandVoiceActor Cool! Yes, Blender 3.0 renders much faster! Its also got some cool new features. Thanks for watching and Happy Holidays. 😃
@@RyanKingArt I just sent you an email re: a company I work for being interested in your channel. Just FYI as I know you probably have a superflooded inbox :)
@@KatLovelandVoiceActor I got your email! Thanks. I will reply as soon as I can.
1:10 what addon you use to have the "Object Context Menu" and which shortcut do you use for it?
Its not an addon. Just right click for the object context menu.
If your talking about the add menu, press Shift A.
@@RyanKingArt i found it, is the W key to rise the "Add Bolt" option again, and great video thanks!!
I want to make my renders more realistic what can I do....
Hmm, that's a hard question to answer. Because there are so many aspects to making your 3d work look realistic. I'd say, maybe lookup some tutorials on how to get more photorealistic renders.
hello ryan
Hello!
this addon needs more bolts and screws
oh yeah
The diameter of the bolt is 5.5 meters 😵💫
😅😅😅
Lol yeah I forgot to model it to scale.
I'm trying to model nuts and bolts to learn modeling basics, not just snap my problems out of existence. sigh..
oh sorry about that. yeah this tutorial is how to use the bolt addon. But I have lots of other modeling tutorials on my RUclips channel that you can check out to learn 3d modeling.
thank you
