  • Part 2 Settle to Appleby.
The year 2020 has not had many highlights to say the least. But one in the railway world was the Staycation express operated by Rail Charter Services LTD. It offered First Class Covid-19 secure stock for a day trip out on the Settle and Carlisle line between Skipton and Appleby, With the great views of the Yorkshire Dales National Park, It also sprung some delights of traction with Class 20, 37, 40 and 47 locomotives all having a jolly!
I have previously uploaded The Settle Carlisle line video from about 4 years ago, But having had the oppourtunity did it again in glorious 4K, But changing the format a little I have started a new playlist of Great days out by train which I will expand once filming allows due to the Pandemic restrictions. This was Filmed on 24/08/20 on LSL TOC LTD Brush Sulzer type 4 47712. The weather for the day out was absolutely stunning and has afforded some great views of the scenery on offer. I hope that Rail Charter Services LTD run the services in 2021 as it was a great success. Sit back and enjoy the views.

Ah, the countryside of England. It is too breathtaking to behold. Lovely fields going whizzing by as we pass along. I really am looking forward to watching part 3.

At 18-50, about 200 yards before entering Bleamoore Tunnel you pass under a bridge . It's not a road bridge but is an aqueduct carrying Force Gill, a mountain stream down a series of steps over the railway. The stream later re-crosses under the line. It's a lovely spot, well worth the effort of the walk up (with plenty more to see) from Ribblehead.

Thank you so much for evoking memories of a trip, in the reverse direction behind Duchess of Hamilton in January 1984, when I was visiting Britain. Your video was shot on a beautiful day.

The Class 47 has always been my favourite Locomotive. I see 47712 is called Lady Diana Spencer again. I have a model in Parcels Red. 1st saw 712 on the E&Gs in BR Blue.

Thank you so much for this wonderful rail experience. Sitting in the train you get such a limited view of one side of the line. Here we see both sides and the front view. What a graphic experience of”light at the end of the tunnel”! The conditions in there must have been horrendous during construction. I appreciate your on screen comments. I think the addition of the three peaks names would be of interest. Thanks again. Keep up the good work!

Memories; in May 1998 my wife and I holidayed in England ( and briefly in France). One week was spent in Richmond North Yorks and we visited the S & C a couple of times. We specifically went to see Ribblehead, where a fabulous day out was highlighted by first the world's worst burgers purchased from a food van beside the viaduct, and then a delightful pub dinner in the hostelry that can be seen down to the right of the line between station and viaduct. Nothing finer than eating a good meal and drinking a tasty ale, whilst watching a train of coal hoppers go past above, through a window put in specifically to enable patrons to watch the trains go by. And it was a beautiful day like that shown in your video. Thanks for rekindling fond memories.

@@TIMBOWERMAN Originally, Croydon - then in Surrey. Migrated to Australia in 1968. Now enjoying retirement in Paynesvillle, beside Lake King in south eastern Victoria. We enjoyed the 12998 holiday so much we sold everything up in 2002 and moved to England for four and a half years, in Hawkhurst Kent then in Hastings. Came back to Oz at the end of 2006.

As someone has already alluded to, it’s a great relief to be able to watch one of your videos and have sound! One disappointment was that you weren’t able to mention the statue of the dog Ruswarp at Garsdale station, or make mention of it in the written introduction. Apparently, Garsdale was a favourite location for Ruswarp and his owner.
However, I suppose that, on a train journey, there’s so much to see that somethings have to be missed. Your videos, which were already good, are now much better for having sound. Well done.

Thanks Peter. If this was a full time project that could be funded as such we would take great time to do far more research to enhance the videos. But unfortunately it isn't. All the new videos will have sound. Its the 4 year old archive stuff that doesn't because of HR restrictions at the time.
