Brings back memories. My only trip on this line was in Nov. 1974 from Appleby to London St. Pancras on the Thames Clyde Express. That's 48 years ago but same kind of loco (Class 47 D1664) as far as Leeds where a Cl.45 took over, then another 45 from Nottingham. It got delayed further south but was still 6 hours 41 mins and 45 secs of absolute bliss!
@2.30. Someone at Railtrack or Applyby staff take some darn iniative and getting out with a Weeding wand or something and kill all those weeds around the base of the water tower and make it look decent. Great video by the way - love it.
What are the parallel lengths of rail between the track proper called? They terminate in a slight convergence. What is their purpose? There is a sample of this at 1:08:57

You were lucky with the weather but this video shows just what a superb route the S&C is. Thoroughly enjoyed it.
Yes it was!
Excellent ride through beautiful, unspoilt countryside.

Great journey there and back. Will have to do it one day in the real world when we can travel again. Thank you.
Keep your eye out for Rail Charter Services. Link in the description. All being well will be doing the trip again this year.

Glad you enjoyed it! More to come.
Thank you for this wonderful divergence from the present time! Happy New Year!
Same to you!
Nearly as exciting as the steam footplate ride I had on the S160 when it visited the Epping Ongar Railway!!
Splendid ride as usual👍
Thanks ✌️
At time 55:36, why are there several people standing on the right side holding up poles?
Photographers with cameras on poles to get over the fence.

See the attached link. www.quora.com/Why-are-there-2-extra-rails-between-the-tracks-ending-in-a-point-on-railroads-specially-at-rail-bridges
Needs more adverts.
Good stuff. Though some might see it as sacrilege, this line really needs to be electrified!
Not so sure the purists would agree!
Sacrilege!
Lines of gantries across the countryside? Looks bed enough on the Mainlines... unless you want to go the Southern method...
By the way, where’s Cows?

The train should have stopped and everyone could have enjoyed a beef barbi.
