2024 BSA Goldstar 650 Review | An Authentic Modern Classic

- Опубликовано: 1 июл 2024
- Authenticity is the key and the BSA Gold Star deserves top marks for keeping itself as old as possible. Efforts were made to keep this bike as classic as possible, and because BSA made sure to fit a vibey 652cc single-cylinder engine in, we couldn't help but feel a little nostalgia as we rode. Jinno reviews the Gold Star in this Beyond the Ride review, and the biggest question is, is it worth the price that BSA Philippines is asking? Find out on this episode, and find out whether BSA does deserve a gold star.

Nice looking bike, great video. Thanks for posting!
My first bike back in 1967 was a BSA Lightening. 650 twin. Back then that circular gauge in the headlight was a amp meter.
Royal Enfield's 650s are better and cheaper. This won't sell in the Ph
I cannot believe that BSA went with the Harley Davidson way and did everything as old as it could be.
I knew the engine is not great but they gotten the full score on the design part. This motorcycle is a good looking motorcycle.
loved the review
Present Sir Jinno 🙋
how is the quick pick up if the accelerator rises after shifting from1st to 2nd gear?
It looks beautiful 😍
When I see a classic bike I click, I like, I subscribe.😅
No brainer, 2 cylinder RE interceptor is a better option and cheaper too. Still an indian brand as RE as well
Owned, just like Volvo isnt Chinese.
@@exgod1when you buy a dog, it's your dog right. You don't say someone's dog owned by me. Hope that helps 🤫
Even RE is British bike
RE and BSA are owned and manufactured by Indian company
@@akshaymahesan8869 heritage matters
people buy RE because of its british motorcycling history they couldn't care less about indian ownership just like Benelli and china
Caco was alive during the BSA heyday? Maybe even way before? Confirmed Caco is the highlander.
3:50 "Back in the day, motorcycles had a lot of vibrations... So... they achieved that part!"
😂😂
Hope you feature RE Shotgun 650 next boss jinno
Lots of modern bikes still have vibrations if they only have one or two cylinders without counter rotating shafts etc. What is an OG?
They didn't have to pay homage this way by making it an expensive vibrator. Crossplane twin would have been a better choice, especially with that price tag.
the og goldstar was a big single. they paid homage to it
Yeah, because there isn’t any crossplane twins around, right?
@@alanjroyrset And it also didn't have a liquid cooling system back then. 🥱
@@kasperkjrsgaard1447 consumers win when there are more options available. 🥱
@@UncleJunior79 i guess a big single heats up quickly
BSA dealer here in the PH used to be RE exclusive dealer.
2:00 madali lang LED conversion nyan, plug n play
The BSA is nice, but there is no modern retro available today more in line with the original BSA’s than the Kawasaki W800. Air cooled, 360° parallel twin. I do love retro bikes, and this BSA is a welcomed addition.
This BSA actually has BMW engine from 90s.
@@SurajSinghTomarArya The engine is made by rotax an Austrian company..
Good luck selling that at that price Hardcore Bros.
Looks beautiful.. rides well.. that's enough to be a retro.. Bsa goldstar is back
7:30 sounds like Cafe400
There should also be a caco test whenever jino test ride height of each bike.😂😅
Very bold to say " True to the original "
Can't they buy the engine from Royal Enfield?
Not a good move to make it a single cylinder 650cc bike. Theres a reason why twins, triple and inline fours were made
Ducati just made 700cc single
530k up for a single cylinder na gawa pa ng mga Indian (Yes, indian owned na ang BSA). No thank you! go for RE or Triumph 400. Sayang mas maganda design niya kaysa sa RE.
Does indian made stuff have less quality as per you.
@@buzzlightyear1484 No, just want to remove the misconception that BSA motorcycles is still British made. They are made in India by Indians like RE and Triumph so the premium price is not justifiable. The price should be on par with it's indian cousins.
If they’re aiming to get back in the market, they should’ve been more considerate as to what the people would actually like in a modern day classic bike. Price is too high for a minimal difference from a underperformance bike in the past compared to today’s retro bikes.
Add retro tail lamp and rear fender and cherry bomb CHROME muffler.
I bought the big thumper exactly 1 year ago, its got bags of character and I love it as anyone who has ridden a single will know exactly what i mean. Its not a twin or a triple or a four its a £6500 single and can only be compared to another single. Other comparisons are meaningless.
jawa & yezdi have already messed up, let's see how bsa performs against RE in india
2:16 what was that?
A bit confused here, didn't a goldstar already launch 2 years back? Is this a revised model of it? So you are telling me they had an opportunity to improve everything in the revised model but they still preferred paying homage over modernization of bad things?
This review is from Phillipines where it just launched. It was launched in UK 2 yrs back.
Looks promising. I love retro bikes.
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
529 PH smackaroos for this?! Oh naw..
14:00 just replace with KYB Heavy Duty shocks , problem solved
The motorcycle is great, well built. No doubt.
And, even though the motorcycle is made in India, it won't sell in good numbers in India.
Reasons: BSA has 0 brand value in India, it will be priced above Interceptor and it's a single (which I don't mind)
@09:10 no it's not built from ground up , many parts are clearly visible that are borrowed from Jawa , seat mirrors, tank etc. Even the awkward seating posture is the same. U seat straight but foot pegs are at the back. Nobody is making a single cylinder engine with more than 500 cc engine for the obvious reason - Vibration. This could have been a great start for BSA 😓 Mahindra makes some of the dumbest decisions that are unexplainable
Umm...Ducati just released their 700cc single. How is the tank or seat borrowed from Jawa when they are brand new sculpt. Do you know how industrial process works? They have to create all new mould even if a centimeter of change is required. If this has brand new chasis then how can you complain about seating position? It's like saying all sports bike are copy of each other because you sit in similar position.
Their pricing seems tailored for retro enthusiasts, a group not particularly abundant in the Philippines. While the initial sales may attract dedicated BSA fans, the sustainability of this approach is questionable. The dealership should consider lowering prices to align with other 650cc classic bikes to appeal to almost-retro enthusiasts who might upgrade from their single-cylinder small bikes. Alternatively, they could introduce the Jawa lineup for the 300cc category.
The highest Goldstar spec is priced at P549k, which is higher than the Kawasaki W800, known for its reliability. What if Kawasaki reintroduces the W800 Standard or brings the K3 (Meguro) to the Philippines? While I appreciate the BSA Goldstar's styling and heritage, its reliability, as noted in forums outside the Philippines, is not on par with Royal Enfield. Personally, I would pass on it. The dealership should seriously reconsider their pricing strategy and re-evaluate their approach.
So in every aspect RE Interceptor is still the better choice. Reviving an old school bike doesn’t mean you have to compromise with the riding quality. They could have made it with twin cylinder.
Ducati also made 700cc. It's good to have different choices in the market and not copy of one another.
Could have been so good but UK sales so far tell you everything you need to know- a very dull bike and a sheer insult to the original Gold Star.
only rider that has a back riderssseses will appreciate this bike . lots of happy ending for sure😅
Single cylinder tapos 500k? Nah uh
Feels like back in the days but price is modern
To bad they didn't keep the infamous Thump..
This bike is meant to do competition dirt track. I t will prevail.
Expensive.
Too pricey for what it is.
Go India go!! Love what we are doing with RE, Norton, BSA, Triumph
Triumph is still british owned.
Triumph 400 engines from bajaj if you know dominar 400 both are same engine's 😂@@kasperkjrsgaard1447
That’s a polite way of saying that this bike is overpriced AF.
Over priced in the Philippines compared to how they are priced in other markets.
Like bsa bike looks like royal Enfield
Not true to the original, no bsa was ever water cooled
And that's a good thing, in my opinion. We don't need to follow old standards just for the sake of nostalgia and keeping things "classic".
@@julianlora_ true. But the reason stated for making it a super vibey single is because they wanted to keep it true to the original. So it looks like they've failed in that regard by water cooling it.
Personally, I'd have preferred if they water cooled it and made it a twin, because as stated, it would have been less viby, and less pricey.
Really wonder who is going to be spending money on this? It just looks like a bad guy all around.
@@albertfraudeor you could perhaps think outside the box and realise that they wanted to honour the original, by making it a single, but modern emissions regulations meant that it would of been all but impossible to achieve without water cooling. While emissions may not be a particular problem in Asia for eg, intending to sell this model on a broader worldwide market meant that certain criteria had to be addressed which dictated design choices.
Wow... Exhaust note like pulsar 180😂
The engine is Austrian, the rest is Indian, and the badge is the only thing OG. Original.
The engine is built in China now.
Should've been a 360 degree twin instead .
its literally the Royal Enfield interceptor
No it ain't. This has a single 650 and has way different design.
Learn the meaning of literally. So frustrating how colloquially this term gets used to the point it has lost all definition.
For the same price you could go for the Kawasaki W800, which is more of classic in my opinion because that one isn't water cooled
BSA should've priced it more competitively or the same as the Enfields 650's which is more or less 50k cheaper while also having plenty of dealerships present if anything does go wrong.
Pinellas are shit . Had it on my interceptor. Changed it to verdestine way better
This looks like a slightly fatter version of Jawa42
Mostly the retro bikes will all look alike. If you see how original BSA looks, this is a very good attempt.
Single Cylinder.....m Out😑
Even Ducati made 700c single and that bow original British bikes were.
Don't let the door hit you too hard. Cheery bye.
It ain't BSA 650 .. it's basically Jawa 650... All design cues are from the jawa 300.... Just scaled to accomodate 650... #sarcasm.
Actually it’s a Rotax 650.
You are the kind of guy who will confuse sports bike with one another because they all have fairings. Please look at how old BSA Goldstar looked before commenting on its looks.
@@SurajSinghTomarArya no bro
BSA bought by Mahindra who owns jawa. See the design cues and I am a rider too
More lipstick on the pig-- hugely overweight, shoddy components, nasty price tag. As previously noted, how many reviews (actually advertisements) will it take to sink this leaden barge?
the whole game will be on pricing
