I have been using Arkansas stone as well as glass sharpeners of various grits. In all fairness, I can sharpen pretty well, but might have to try those rods. Maybe I can hold the knife straight? 😬
Shoot I really want to buy this sharpener just because I like this guy. can't get with him on the DMTs though, I understand why they work for this application. I sold my sharpmaker.... not sure why I did that. Basically sharpen at or below a 15 degree angle on a coarse diamond stone, or something rough till there is an edge, then micro bevel it with the rods at 15 degrees and your set to go. Works very well.
May I make a suggestion? Try to find a very old telephone fuse box, usually square. Inside you will find 2 ceramic rods. They will make a sharp knife VERY sharp. Good luck.
