The Neo Geo CD is a phenomenal console that gets a bad reputation due to “later” games (I.e. The Last Blade) with very long load times. I bought my console, complete in box, in January 2020. I later purchased Furrtek’s SD Loader that year and had a friend install it in 2020. Huge props to you for attempting to install such a complex mod on your own. But I’m glad your story had a happy ending.
Apply gel flux and fresh solder on the pin/pad, apply the iron and carefully lift with tweezers has always worked for me on this job. A small knife or chisel tip too.
Thank you for putting out this video! I felt Deja vu watching your video, as I have three consoles that are failures in my possession. I would greatly appreciate if you could put me in contact with Cody, I could potentially die a happy man! Please any help is appreciated
I feel like everyone needs to fail with soldering before they truly get the hang of it... I just wish I didn't choose the Neo Geo as my first attempt! I reached out to Cody and asked him if he would be interested in taking on jobs like this from people in the US, and he said it's just not for him. He's a family man and just does this on the side for fun. Turning it into a business just isn't in the cards for him at this time. I'm sure with enough research you can find someone that can help you with this!
I'm considering getting an SD loader for my CD. Do you know if I can put games on the sd card that weren't retail releases? Such as the pixel heart releases and last hope?
"The firmware doesn't rely on a list of known games. It will load any CD image as long as its file structure matches the one required by the console's original BIOS. This means existing and future homebrew games can be loaded without having to update the firmware." - furrtek.free.fr/sdloader/
I have done a few xstation installs no problem, which i'd say is harder than this install. My 1st attempt at this mod, the pin 12 on the TOP-SP1 chip broke off completely like yours' did when trying to solder a wire to the lifted pin:((
I hate that for you, man... mainly because I know exactly how you feel.... I hope you can find a very skilled modder to help you fix it. Just because the pin broke, doesn't mean it's dead!
hi how are you, luckily a friend is very good with this type of mods and I don't f!@#$!@ my console, but the issue is the roms, where can I get .cue I can't find many, could you help me, thanks!
I disagree... for a novice like myself it was very difficult. I should not have given it a try. I've become more experienced in soldering since this video, but this is definitely not a job that a beginner should do.

What a real friend. Must be a good heart too ❤
Yeah, he's incredibly kind.

Thanx for the video Travis, but the value of the console doesn't dicrease by doing the SD loader mod?
Depends on the buyer, I suppose. Some of these Neo Geo guys like their stuff pure and unmodified
@@travisbowmanmusic yeah that’s I think too. It’s cool
those broken bios chips can be replaced

I can't tell you exactly where to find them. But surely there is an ARCHIVE dot ORGanization somewhere on the internet.... 🤔
Step 1, never solder again
Step 2 always call Cody from hereon
I'll call him for the heavy jobs, but like I said in the video, I learned a lot and even did a successful RGB mod on a Super Nintendo Jr.
Where can I find Cody’s contact?
use solder paste and a microscope next time
it's not a tough job, just takes a little finesse
