Games played: Ninja Commando (0:00), Garou: Mark of the Wolves (0:10), Shock Troopers (0:24), Metal Slug X (0:35), Spinmaster (1:05), Blazing Star (7:10) Also, for those wondering about the dollar bills in my mouth... I washed my mouth out thoroughly with mouthwash after that :)
Great and entertaining video as always! But you forgot one option. Playing Neo Geo CD with an SD Card Mod. This makes the loading 3 times faster. So with that you can collect the physical games but play it from an SD card. A way to play that I use with Saturn, Dreamcast and PS1 for some time now and I love it. Specially when friends come over and you can quickly change a game.
Quick Little Story For Ya™ Back in the NEO GEO heyday... maybe 92-93? I got a major talkin' to from my parents because my neighborhood buddy got a NEO GEO after his parents got divorced and were showering him with gifts trying to win custody. ... Of course I didn't understand the complexity of it at the time and just asked my parents "If you guys ever get divorced, can I have a NEO GEO?". They said no. 20ish years later, they got divorced right as I finished college. They never got me a NEO GEO.
Oh and also - I have a bunch of the NEO GEO home console thingies. The mini arcade cab you showed (the really tiny one), the Arcade Stick Pro, and the NEO GEO X which was made by a 3rd party and most hardcore collectors hate, but I think it's awesome because of the way it is a very slick handheld which docks into a mock AES. Basically the Switch 15 years before we got the Switch. For those interested: The Arcade Stick Pro is the way to go. It's $129, but set a camelcamelcamel watch because it drops to 105 almost monthly. Comes with 20 games and a full-size arcade stick that can be used on almost any other system/PC as a controller, but is a full self-contained platform with a nice interface. PLUS if you register the serial number (which CAN be done if you buy it used), you get a little download for 20 MORE games that can go in the SD slot PLUS PLUS it's been fully jailbroken so you can play any game you have a ROM for. PLUS PLUS PLUS the Arcade Stick Pro is fully compatible with all of the official NEO GEO peripherals released for all the mini consoles, so you can use a NEO GEO CD controller on the Arcade Stick Pro. Wow. I just typed more about the NEO GEO in 5 minutes than I did in probably the past 5 years. Banana.
The Neo Geo has some of the prettiest games of all time. The Metal Slug games in particular really stand out to me, the art has aged like a fine wine and will continue to look gorgeous forever.
You know I’ve been trying to place it for a long time but I finally figured it out. Your videos and humor remind me of the old Goofy “The Art Of [X]” mock instructional videos Disney released in the 40s, with its combination of serious and silly script and the acting you do. Love your stuff, hilarious and pertinent to my interests, keep it up, and thanks!
When the AES system launched I pulled out my trusty Amex and took it home. I believe I bought it from Electronics Boutique. I remember the games being pretty hard and was disappointed when things got busy onscreen it was accompanied by significant slowdown. I remember games like The Super Spy, Magician Lord, Nam 75 and more. I sold it after owning it for about six months. I wish I still had it in my collection. I did love the massive controllers. I have one of the mini Neo Geo consoles for now. It's nowhere near as impressive but provides quick way for me to play some Neo Geo goodness.😊
I was so jealous whenever I would see the Neo-Geo in magazines back in the late 80’s. I eventually bought a Neo-Geo. And I also grabbed the very rare Neo-Geo CDZ. Some of the gems in my collection. Enough about me rambling, great video as always.
7:00 at one point I had read the AES did not start out as a "home" console and was instead intended to be a hotel system which were quite popular in Japan at the time.
Yeah, it started as a rental system. It became popular and SNK was convinced that it could be released for sale as a luxury product (which would of course be the AES).
I love this guys whole style. His voice matches his goofy face, which matches his goofy sense of humor which matches the goofy “old man” content that is retro gaming. Guys just congruent on all levels lol. I mean all this in the most positive of ways.
The Neo-Geo is one of my favorite things ever. Me and some friends spent our high school graduation night at a local truck stop eating the greasy burgers they served and playing on the Neo they had in the little arcade in the back. Good times.
Just started an MVS collection this year. Got a couple bootlegs but if they play fine they play fine. Neo Geo had a stranglehold on the Chinese market so if you can find the right seller you can get started with an MVS collection for about $150 (MVS board, Supergun, KOF 98, cables, and a controller/controller adapter). There's also the PolyGame Master, a Taiwanese competitor to the Neo Geo that had some fantastic games like Demon Front (a Metal Slug competitor) and even some Cave shmups like Espagluda and DoDonPachi (DoDonpachi II, a game for the system, was not made by Cave but was made under license and is what got Cave to stay in the arcade business). PolyGame Master is about the same price as an MVS, and the games range from $30-120. Since it uses the same Jamma connector (and has a shell), it's already basically consolized.
You're welcome Bird. A pleasure to do so for you bro. 8^) Ah, so you enjoy a good game of Bust-A-Move. A superb choice for sure Bird. I love the game and like to whistle the music from the game when I was a boy even now when I have the game on my mind. 8^) As for me, the game that will always be Number 1 will be Magician Lord. It was the first Neo-Geo title that I ever played in 1990. The first time I played on the Neo-Geo MVS was at a local Dairy Queen on Rt. 4 in Paramus, New Jersey. Me and the family were having our Sunday afternoon lunch when a video game distributors truck was starting to roll off a "Big Red" for 4 slot unit into the entrance to the restaurant. At first, I was fascinated by the technology from the description by the store manager explaining that you can play up to 4 titles by simply pressing the white button on top of the joystick. That was mind blowing for me at he time. Once the MVS was ready to be played, Magician Lord was the first choice for me to do so....Man! I must've spent $10 Dollars in quarters barely defeating level 1 in the game. It was the most challenging for me at the time. But, it made me continue on because it was just so entertaining to play. Everything about Magician Lord was perfect for me. Since that day forward, I was a Neo-Geo buff. 8^) Thank you as always for allowing me to share your material Bird. Glad to share a brief history of the Neo-Geo in my life and awesome to read yours as well bro. Keep up the great work and looking forward on seeing more from you soon my good man. 8^) Anthony...
One very very unique thing about your channel is zero capture card play, and I really really appreciate that. It just looks boring and CRT gameplay on a camera is just more authentic looking. I thank you for that
So I’ve been incidentally collecting plastic bread tags for almost a decade lol. At first it was because I was lazy and there was a cute fake flower pot on the window ledge and I’d just toss them in there instead of the garbage…. Until it filled up, then I just decided to keep the ball rolling because I thought no one else would ever collect these. I’m so glad I found this channel! Such great content, so positive yet real and funny. Thank you so much for these videos
For me, “collecting,” means allowing me to play when I’m on a budget. If I ever have the means, I would love to have an actual NeoGeo AES. Unfortunately, that just isn’t the case. However, I have a great number of NeoGeo options on my Switch. Playing these fantastic games at home, or on the go, is absolutely fine by me. Either in a classic compilation (Samurai Shodown Collection), or individually at $7.99 a pop (sometimes less because of a sale), I have a lot of NeoGeo love for me right now.
I’ve had an MVSX for a couple years now. Swapped the stock buttons out with suzu happ w/ micro switch buttons. Also did the hylo x hack on it. It’s a quality arcade cabinet now. The riser makes it preset tall too. Really the cheapest way to experience the Neo Geo library (as well as cps1 and cps2) library via arcade style.
I purchased my NeoGeo CMVS Slim in ebony finished ash wood from Analogue back in 2013. My personal favorites are: League Bowling, Neo Turf Masters, Top Hunter, Ninja Commando, Metal Slug 4, Prehistoric Isle 2 & View Point. I do have the NeoGeo mini and it’s actually not a bad way to play many of the NeoGeo library for very little money
About 10 or more years ago I bought the NeoGeo X Gold along with a second arcade stick, and all the games they had available for them all for about $300 new. I know its not perfect, but with the arcade sticks, I feel like it's a great at home experience for the price. Plus I've taken the handheld with me on every trip I've gone on since I got it, and played it on every plane or train ride.
I'm a military kid and my parents were stationed in England. Our on base arcade got an SF2 cabinet and it was impossible to get on it as people had quarters lined up for days (as was the fashion back then). Sad and dejected, I made my way to the on base bowling alley (my parents were air force if you couldn't tell) and saw a new machine in the back corner. Neo Geo. Fatal Fury 2 was loaded in it and it instantly caught my eye. I fell in love with this game and have been an SNK fanboy ever since. When people caught on that they couldn't get on the SF2 machine either, they'd make their way to the bowling alley, where I would destroy all that challenged me. When I got old enough, got a real job and made my first real money, the first thing I did was buy a Neo Geo off ebay and Fatal Fury Special. Still have both and picked up a Neo SD Pro. Fatal Fury 2 and Special will always have a special place in my heart but there are so many great games on this system.
I have a soft spot for Dashin' Desperados on SEGA Genesis so when I just happened upon Spinmaster at an arcade my mind was blown. That arcade was also in Disney World. It was all pretty magical for that 6 year old me.
@@RetroBirdGaming there also used to be a SEGA Genesis exhibit at Epcot center at Walt Disney World. I played a few new games there like Power Stone 2 before it came out
I've been a long time game hardware collector, working my way through old counsels, 80's and early 90's computers, and now on to arcades. Just finished restoring my first Space Invaders Deluxe cabinet and working on a Sega Turbo. Looking for a MVS cabinet as my next project specifically because of the cartridge interface and how approachable the games are. Being able to enjoy 15 - 30 min of game play and not need to learn the complex story or controls of modern games is getting more and more important the older I get. Thanks for posting a great video.
I got my Neo Geo AES Gold at launch and currently have 8 games. It is my favorite just behind the Genesis. I'm currently consolizing an MVS MV-1C board to play the cheaper MVS carts.
Even playing these games on a modern console, I have to expect them to start slowing down. They are just so impressive for 2D games and growing up with them being out of reach, I still see them as console-pushing games to this day. It makes playing them all the more special in the current day!
Unfortunately that SNK Arcade Classics game you showed near the end has pretty lousy reviews online, with many outlets saying the PSP and PS2 versions have long load times, and overall emulation is spotty with only Metal Slug and Last Resort being worth it. Though interestingly the best rated version was the Wii release, so if you want to play them on the Wii you got options. Another option is Virtual Console, also on the Wii. The Virtual Console service is dead... but sailing the seven seas never dies, so all you need to do is go to a certain Mariocube Repository, and enjoy all the Neo Geo Virtual Console you'd like (or as many as they added, which was around 50 if I can recall). Beyond this, there was a Metal Slug collection on the PSP and PS2 which I actually own on the PSP and it's definitely worth it, and Arcade Archives has re-released a bunch of Neo Geo games for around $8 CAD a pop on the PS4 and Nintendo Switch.
I got the Neo Geo International Mini! I loved playing NEO GEO in the arcades & to finally own one was awesome because the prize was steep! When I caught COVID I loaded up on all my handhelds, SNES & SEGA Genesis to my daughters room which was a dedicated quarantine area, but my NEO GEO Mini was used the most! Quick play because as stated they were Arcade style of play, so it was meant for you to die quickly. At the time I lost my copy of Puzzle Bobble my favorite NEO GEO Game & the only downside was that was not on my NEO GEO Mini.
I bought a Neo Geo CD unit with a broken disc drive last year, and installed an ODE. It handles the unibios stuff and also speeds up the loading to the limit of the hardware, surpassing the CDZ speeds. Probably the cheapest way to play on original hardware. There are differences and exclusives between MVS, AES and CD titles as well - really need them all to experience the entire library. Currently using the Mister FPGA and unibios for MVS and AES, and playing the CD titles on original hardware. Neo Geo is cycle accurate on the current Neo Geo core.
I recently bought an Analogue Pocket and set up the Neo Geo core. I can take it on the go or play on the TV with the dock. So far it is great with the unibios. Love me some Neo Turf Masters. Great pick up and play and multiplayer. Viewpoint is a cool shooter but tough.
Awesome video !! I remember when that system came out. Not worth it. !!! My friend had one. He paid between $250 to $300 for each game !!! The cartridges were huge !!! What happens when you get bored with a particular game ???
After watching this video, I found a very affordable copy for the Wii, which arrived today. It's pretty awesome and I appreciate the suggestion. I remember Neo Geo from back in the day but it's great to finally play some of their titles.
Hi Bird, Good to see you again bro. Another excellent Neo-Geo video you share to help many in the community find alternatives for them to game on the Neo-Geo. The SNK Arcade Classics Vol.1 for the PS@, Wii, and PSP are great choices and well worth playing with the price that won't hurt your wallet...As a Neo-Geo buff for 34 years, is the Neo-Geo worth it? YOU BET!! Since I play and collect for the AES, that's my first choice personally for sure. 8^) I shared your video up for you on the Neo-Geo thread over on the forums for others to take notice for them to view on AtariAge. Thank you for sharing this with us bro. Keep up the great work you always offer in the community. 8^) Anthony...
Thank you Anthony! RUclips really loves it when videos get shared like that, so it helps a lot. Yeah, I love the Neo Geo too! I've always been fascinated with it. Funny enough, Bust-A-Move is the game I played most as a kid. We found a ton of 1-slot machines that had that set up :)
I love the NeoGeo platforms. I bought an MVS 4-slot and my friends absolutely love it, they can try the MVS versions before putting down some serious cash for the AES version. I have the following: MVS-4-25 (4 slot cab) AES Neo-Geo CD gen2 Neo-Geo pocket color
I’m definitely not going to pursue getting a Neo Geo but I still love seeing stuff like this because I know nothing about it. These games look absolutely awesome. I do love going to my local arcade as to play Metal Slug! Thanks for sharing.
I had an opportunity to acquire a Neo Geo CDZ a couple years ago through an online acquaintance, and I have no regrets. The load times don't bother me, and he gave me a pretty good deal on it with a handful of choice games. There are a few that will probably remain out of my price range, but I should be able to get most of what I will want to play without paying too much, and I'm okay with that. I'll also vouch for those SNK collections. I put a ton of time into the PSP compilation after I bought it.
Amazon prime apparently gave out the SNK 40th anniversary collection some time ago and since I claim most games, I had it in my library. Guess I found a way to give these games a try.
I just found your channel. I was looking for good PSP games. Interestingly, you don't have any videos about the PSP. New video idea? Anyway. I found your channel and have been watching your vids for 2 hours! Earned a sub from me. Keep it up mate
Neo Geo MV1C + Supergun. The supergun not only turns the Neo Geo arcade motherboard into a console, but any JAMMA arcade board for that matter. Totally recommend it!
I got the neo geo arcade stick with the mod with all the games. I grew up playing Neo Geo in the arcades and I can't tell the difference between emulation and the arcade. And the best part of all is that you get to buy really good Neo Geo controllers and you have the arcade stick to play the games
There was a Neo Geo Arcade machine at a restaurant in my childhood hometown. It had Metal Slug, Samurai Shodown and Aero Fighters 2. I played all 3 of them a bunch and they are very nostalgic for me now.
I just picked up a consolized MVS from aliexpress! I always wanted a Neo Geo back in the day, and now that I've got the means to make it happen, I'm taking the dive. Of course I'll get the 161 in 1 cart, but I'm also looking forward to keeping my eyes open for real MVS carts.
I went down the emulation route for neogeo. Bought an arcade1up yogaflame and sodtmodded it to run retroarch. Its kinda wierd how much nostalgia the neogeo has. Even if i never played it back then, i still have this feeling of familiarity when i play the games.
My Neo Geo fix is provided by the Neo Geo CD, Color Pocket Slim, and the SNK NEO GEO Mini Classic 40th Anniversary console. Of course with the mini you need an HDMI cable and a controller to get the most out of it. Big hands just don't work with the unit itself. The mini was worth it just for Blazing Star.
A few years ago I bought the a consolized NeoGeo MVS and a 161 in 1 cartridge. I started off using a Brook to ps4 adapter so I could use my ps4 controller. I then later bought an AES joystick.
The big games I wanted for Neo Geo were perfectly ported to the Dreamcast, PS2, and other home consoles. Specifically…Mark of the Wolves and KoF’98 on Dreamcast, and the Samurai Shodown Anthology on PS2.
There was a time when shelling out for Neo Geo games was the ultimate “i”m a cool gamer” move. Now, it either demonstrates how dedicated you are to your shelf collecting or you have WAY too much money/time or both.
I wasn't alive when the NeoGeo was in its prime but Metal Slug 3 has been my all time favorite game for years now I first played Metal Slug on one of those NeoGeo cabinets at a local restaurant when I was a kid and absolutely fell in love with Metal Slug and the NeoGeo as a whole to the point my dad bought me a compilation of all the metal slug games and that PS2 SNK collection that was shown in the video and played both to death as a kid and I at least once a year binge the metal slug games they never get old for me
Fun video Bird. Yeah, retro gamers should all check out the Neo Geo. Lots of good stuff. I'm not a fan of one on one fighters but still so much good stuff to play. Of course the Metal Slugs are my favorites but Shock Troopers, Blazing Star, and Nam 1975 stand out and the sports games are also surprisingly fun with Baseball Stars 2 and Neo Turf Masters as a couple of good titles. One other quick option for some people could be Antstream Arcade. They have something like 60 SNK titles. Not a great option for collectors but definitely for those who want an official way to enjoy the Neo Geo.
The Neo Geo was quite the piece of arcade hardware! It has to have the most amount of games for arcade hardware ever. Its pure processing power helped it power through the years, despite not having some of the graphical techniques of newer hardware. Picking favorite games is tough, as most are pretty fun playthroughs. But I think of Metal Slug 1-3, and the KOF series first. Other notable games, either based on fun factor, or the fact they were the games I saw in so many Neo Geos as a kid were: Sengoku, Puzzle Bobble, Crossed Swords, Nam 1975, Blazing Star, Shock Troopers... Geeze, I could Keep going. Pop a game in and have some fun!
The Neo Geo has such a great library! I have bought a lot of ports of Neo Geo games digitally over the years, and you can often find titles on sale on the digital store fronts. I put a raspberry pi in an Acade 1up Street Fighter 2 cabinet that I bought on clearance several years ago, and I emulate Neo Geo games on that. There are so many great fighting games on the system. Garou: Mark of the Wolves is one of my all time favorite fighting games! The King of Fighters series is amazing, and Waku Waku 7 is a lot of fun. There are a lot of great arcade sports games for the system as well. Neo Turf Masters, Neo Drift Out: New Technology, League Bowling, and Baseball Stars 2 are well worth checking out.
Not sure this is for everyone, but the route I took is with the Polymega console. It allowed me to collect NGCD games and the system eliminates the load times. Good compromise between physical AES and pure emulation. Aside from that, I had no problem buying physical Metal Slug and Alpha Denshi collections on PS4 to save money. As for non-arcade games, there’s the Samurai Spirits RPG in its quiet little corner.
I bought the SNK Arcade Classics Vol.1 and the Samurai Shodown Collection on PSP years ago and they've been a great way to play SNK games, especially after being able to transfer them to PS3 and then Vita. Then, all I had to grab what single games I was missing and wanted off the PS4 storefront, like Garou: Mark of the Wolves and Waku Waku 7. Not a bad way to play!
I considered all options you recommended. In the end i went down the cdz route. Yes the system was expensive as heck, but the games i find to be reasonable. Collecting for this thing is addictive, and fun !!
Neo Geo was always that unique and cool gaming console from SNK that always was so hard to find and buy due to It's price. I love SNK and The King of Fighters 15 is still so amazing. SNK with the NEO came out with so many wonderful games and I love it. Cool video. ^_^
I'm perfectly happy with my NG comp on Wii. The various control options, albeit a slight inconvenience when jumping from game to game, are very complimentary. On top of that, if I'm having the urge to relive the arcade glory days, I'll run a marathon of NG in addition to my Pinball hof Williams collection. No quarters are harmed!
You, have just earned yourself a subscriber mate! Love your slightly wacky style with these videos, feels like you've kind of taken on the mantle from Mark at Classic Game Room (and I men that as a compliment!).
I love the quick pick-up-and-play nature of Neo Geo, and the fact that this console has a god-tier emulator that works great on low-powered portable devices. Also I find it so cool that pretty much every Neo Geo game supports multiplayer. I can't even think of a Neo Geo game that is only single-player. Excellent vid as always RB! Very informative and hilarious!
Everyone likes to compare Metal Slug to Contra but if you think about, it plays more like a beat 'em up than a run 'n gun. You'll often come up to sections where you can't progress any further until you defeat all of the enemies on screen and it even has the "GO" arrow that most beat 'em ups use.
That's a great distinction to point out. What I've always felt makes them the most different from each other is that Contra feels like more of a platformer than Metal Slug (especially after Metal Slug 1).
I agree with the idea of neo geo being an arcade console. What would you make of the aggressive marketing campaign used to sell it at the time. Like the ad that said you need a set of 2 steel pinballs to play it.
I own a Neo Geo CD and modded it with Furrtek's SD card mod. It maintains its CD functionality while allowing access to the library via SD card. Oh, and the loading times are ultra fast thought the SD card. The only downside is that the CD library is missing some games. Most notably Metal Slug 3-5.
As a young lad, always gravitated to those red and white cabs. They just felt premium and had the better pick of games in the entire arcade. I'll own one some day.
Awesome video! Great choices of games were picked. And a nice showcase for people who haven't played this console yet! Is it worth it!? If you love Genesis or SNES, you're definitely in for a treat!
Great video! Absolutely loved it! I'm a big Sega and Neo Geo fan! I own a US region AES, and japan import model 2 CD, 3 different color variants of the Pocket Color, mini, and arcade srick pro! I love this hobby!!!
before start looking for a neo geo system or games i just started to collect bread bag clips in different color....i guess it's more cheaper 😂😂. neo geo has very good games, i own a custom arcade cabinet with batocera and all neo geo romset, world heroes, KOF, metal slug series are my favorites. it would be cool to have the original console and some games but the prices are ridiculous.....great video as always man.
Good video! I've loved Neo Geo ever since I was a kid at the arcade decades ago. I've played a good number of them and I've enjoyed all of them! Currently, I went the route of purchasing Neo Geo games on the Switch (they have a decent number of them). I wish I could put a full Neo Geo cabinet in my apartment (I would kinda like to keep my fridge, though). 😅 Some of my favorites are *Blazing Star* (one of my absolute favorite shmups on any system), *Magical Drop III* (a colorful and fun puzzle game), any of the *Metal Slugs* (just intense run 'n gun action), *Puzzle Bobble 1 & 2* (again, just really fun and colorful puzzle games), and *Windjammers* (a crazy discus-throwing battle).
I think all I need to satiate my Neo Geo nostalgia, is just to plop one of the their big arcade sticks in my lap, close my eyes and imagine the smell of popcorn and whatever other arcade smells that inevitably wafted around, then make a few beep and boop sounds while I press a few buttons to defeat a couple bad guys, and that's it, no need for any consoles or games, good memories
My sole memory of Neo Geo was an arcade cabinet of Samurai Showdown that was in my local Pizza Hut. I only got to play it once, because we usually ordered delivery and rarely went out for pizza, but I begged my mom for quarters and only got one play. I can't blame her for not being prepared though as she was already treating me to the Darkwing Duck themed kids personal pizza and stuff.
If I struggle to think of what game to play next but know sure as hell I'm not playing Soldier of Fortune, I'll gladly pop open one of the Neo-Geo games I have downloaded onto my Switch and play 'em.
Nice video, I have downloaded a few Neo Geo games onto my Nintendo Switch., and they definitely are fun arcade games at their finest! The games are published by HAMSTER, and are only $7.99 each. The selection of NeoGeo titles on the Switch is extensive. They play just like the original.
A lot of the games (mostly fighting games) are available in collections for the PS2, although 3 of my favorite games didnt make it to collections to the PS2, which are Spinmasters, Ninja Combat, and Sengoku 3.
It's definitely worth it, I have been collecting for 2 years, I have the mvsx, the arcade stick pro, I have versions of the games on my other consoles, and I'm contemplating getting a consolized mvs board and then getting a flash cart to go with it. As an adult, I've come to like arcade games more than anything, I do like the pick up and play anytime. And being able to play all of these is something I could of only dreamed of as a kid.
I have a couple of NeoGeo Minis and the Arcade Stick Pro but probably my favourite way to play NeoGeo is on my Nintendo Switch. I have a decent ACA NeoGeo collection and the two NeoGeo Pocket Collections which play great with the 8bitdo NeoGeo Controller paired with the BT Adapter 2. Favourite game is probably Waku Waku 7 :-) Keep up the awesome work!
You are really good man. And I am a huge fan, in spite of my HATE for bananas! My favorite RUclips moment of all time is when Timmy ALMOST got his game back for Thanksgiving…😅
I've wanted you to do a Neo Geo video for so long. This is one of my favorite systems but i cannot afford AES games, so i went and made uo for it and picked up a mini, an Arcade Stick Pro, and an MVS X...and hylo hacked them. When I win the lottery I'll pick up a collection of AES carts and call it a day. But man do i love this damn system.
No love for Sengoku 3?
That's funny you mention that about the dollar bills. I was wondering about that 😂
Can you do a video on hey what type of gamer are you ! Ppl that love gaming from Gen or so
I have the ps2 snk collection
And it has green, blue, yellow and red medalssome medals r impossible
In the middle of this video I got an ad for Rocket Knight Adventures Re-Sparked. Better ad placement has never existed.
That's hilarious. I'm hoping Bird puts out a whole review when it comes out.

I liked this comment and it triggered the ad for me too. Very on brand.
Caught this too 😂 just happened to buy a copy a couple days ago
Quick Little Story For Ya™
Back in the NEO GEO heyday... maybe 92-93?
PLUS if you register the serial number (which CAN be done if you buy it used), you get a little download for 20 MORE games that can go in the SD slot
PLUS PLUS it's been fully jailbroken so you can play any game you have a ROM for.
Banana.
@KingC89 at least a couple times a year, I remind them I've "never played the divorce card". Never know when I might need it.
Hay it was worth a go and I can respect that. Nothing says ‘I still love you’ like a Neo Geo
That’s so sad.
@KingC89 "Here's your Neo Geo, son." _Gets NG Pocket_
The Neo Geo has some of the prettiest games of all time. The Metal Slug games in particular really stand out to me, the art has aged like a fine wine and will continue to look gorgeous forever.

You know I’ve been trying to place it for a long time but I finally figured it out. Your videos and humor remind me of the old Goofy “The Art Of [X]” mock instructional videos Disney released in the 40s, with its combination of serious and silly script and the acting you do.
Love your stuff, hilarious and pertinent to my interests, keep it up, and thanks!
He used to be serious when he 1st started his channel
When the AES system launched I pulled out my trusty Amex and took it home. I believe I bought it from Electronics Boutique. I remember the games being pretty hard and was disappointed when things got busy onscreen it was accompanied by significant slowdown.
I remember games like The Super Spy, Magician Lord, Nam 75 and more. I sold it after owning it for about six months. I wish I still had it in my collection. I did love the massive controllers. I have one of the mini Neo Geo consoles for now. It's nowhere near as impressive but provides quick way for me to play some Neo Geo goodness.😊
Bro I love those lol
Ya know, somebody else said this a while back too. I actually do really like those videos but never thought of them as an influence.
@@RetroBirdGamingsomeone else beat me to it? That dirty dog.
@@RetroBirdGaming Will you do a video on the NEO GEO's Taiwanese cousin the PolyGame Master (PGM)?
@@RetroBirdGaming The Hotel version was the AES.
I love this guys whole style. His voice matches his goofy face, which matches his goofy sense of humor which matches the goofy “old man” content that is retro gaming. Guys just congruent on all levels lol. I mean all this in the most positive of ways.
I really appreciate that!
The bird man aka Retro bird is such a gem amongst the retro bros! Much love bird man! ❤
The Neo-Geo is one of my favorite things ever. Me and some friends spent our high school graduation night at a local truck stop eating the greasy burgers they served and playing on the Neo they had in the little arcade in the back. Good times.
Yeah, that's livin' for sure :)
Ah, so you enjoy a good game of Bust-A-Move. A superb choice for sure Bird. I love the game and like to whistle the music from the game when I was a boy even now when I have the game on my mind. 8^)
As for me, the game that will always be Number 1 will be Magician Lord.
Thank you as always for allowing me to share your material Bird. Glad to share a brief history of the Neo-Geo in my life and awesome to read yours as well bro. Keep up the great work and looking forward on seeing more from you soon my good man. 8^)
Anthony...
One very very unique thing about your channel is zero capture card play, and I really really appreciate that. It just looks boring and CRT gameplay on a camera is just more authentic looking. I thank you for that
I appreciate you saying that! It's definitely more work, but I like it better too :)
Love this channel, I don’t know how you don’t have more subs!
My Neo Geo mini was 80 bucks (for 40 games) brand new and worth every penny. It's my most played mini.
Your wooden Neo Geo is enviable!
I had no idea Analogue made those.
The Disney parks used to have some really epic arcades back in the day. At least, Disneyland sure did. I wonder what they have now.
@@RetroBirdGaming there also used to be a SEGA Genesis exhibit at Epcot center at Walt Disney World. I played a few new games there like Power Stone 2 before it came out
Heck yeah, love stuff on the neo geo! keep up the vids man we all love em!
Your humor is great!
Thanks!
Man, this just makes me so jealous of anyone who has that great of a bread bag clip collection
After watching this video, I found a very affordable copy for the Wii, which arrived today. It's pretty awesome and I appreciate the suggestion. I remember Neo Geo from back in the day but it's great to finally play some of their titles.
Hi Bird,
Good to see you again bro. 8^)
I shared your video up for you on the Neo-Geo thread over on the forums for others to take notice for them to view on AtariAge. Thank you for sharing this with us bro. Keep up the great work you always offer in the community. 8^)
Anthony...
I have the following:
MVS-4-25 (4 slot cab)
AES
Neo-Geo CD gen2
Neo-Geo pocket color
My actual takeaway from the video: I had intended to and forgot to buy bananas at the store yesterday
I love the running jokes on your channel, like the bread bag clip collection, mean girls etc. top notch!
I watched this video because i wanted to know what the heck a neogeo even was, and it delivered
HAHA. Thanks for demonstrating looking in the toilet for groceries, the image really drives the point home!
And being "two steps ahead" 😂 good line
It's where you might find "retired" groceries.
Well I love your sense of humor and retro video games. And naners, so I always look forward to your videos.
If you like fighting games, the answer is a resounding "Yes."
Definitely a lot to enjoy for fighting game fans. Even the random lesser-known games can be fun to mess around with.
I got an arcade stick pro and it’s great! Just kinda dip in and out of neo geo (or retro games more generally) and it’s fun as the dickens!
I hope you never get tired of making videos! They always bring a smile to my face... and remind me of the importance of of eating my bananas!
There's a lot of thought and work put into these videos ... I wonder why they don't get more views or why the channel hasn't grown more!!
Been a while since I've meandered to your channel. Glad you were among the top results when searching Neo Geo.
Street Hoop, king of fighters 94, wind jammers and metal slug 1,2 and world heroes have a special place in my heart and memories!
Cool video. ^_^
KOF XV is the best fighting game to come out in years. SF6 can't even hold a candle to it.
@@melchior2678 I agree 100 %. Tekken 8 dominated SF6 also right away.
I use Mister with a Neo Geo-X stick on a CRT. Very happy with the results
I bought a neo geo cd off of good ol Luke Morse back in 2016. Did the furtek mod and now i use it more than ever.
Damn dude you’re funny! 🤣 love the humor!
If you're in the market for it, and live near Toronto, I have an MVS cabinet modified to play and is loaded with EVERY Neo Geo game.
I agree with the idea of neo geo being an arcade console. What would you make of the aggressive marketing campaign used to sell it at the time. Like the ad that said you need a set of 2 steel pinballs to play it.
One of my favorite arcade systems back in the day 😊😊
I own a Neo Geo CD and modded it with Furrtek's SD card mod.
Some of my favorites are *Blazing Star* (one of my absolute favorite shmups on any system), *Magical Drop III* (a colorful and fun puzzle game), any of the *Metal Slugs* (just intense run 'n gun action), *Puzzle Bobble 1 & 2* (again, just really fun and colorful puzzle games), and *Windjammers* (a crazy discus-throwing battle).
Great video! Loving your content! Keep em’ coming.
For the record, my current favorite so far is Puzzle Bobble 2, followed by Metal Slug 2.
Nice video,
I have downloaded a few Neo Geo games onto my Nintendo Switch., and they definitely are fun arcade games at their finest! The games are published by HAMSTER, and are only $7.99 each. The selection of NeoGeo titles on the Switch is extensive. They play just like the original.
Great show thank you! 👍
A lot of the games (mostly fighting games) are available in collections for the PS2, although 3 of my favorite games didnt make it to collections to the PS2, which are Spinmasters, Ninja Combat, and Sengoku 3.
HOLY SHIT HE ATE THE MONEY
And here i am sanitizing my hands everytime i need to touch cash cause you have no idea where its been 😅
It's definitely worth it, I have been collecting for 2 years, I have the mvsx, the arcade stick pro, I have versions of the games on my other consoles, and I'm contemplating getting a consolized mvs board and then getting a flash cart to go with it. As an adult, I've come to like arcade games more than anything, I do like the pick up and play anytime. And being able to play all of these is something I could of only dreamed of as a kid.
This timing is suspiciously good, got a bunch of neo geo quite recently
No problem. Bananas are a polarizing fruit. I get it :)
6:17 - Oh my, these 2 steps leave little to the imagination 😂
😂 lmao Big Bird is hilarious
Picked up Neo Geo Arcade Stick Pro. Favorite mini console ever.
