Hilarious coincidence. I'm watching your video, and the moment you use your tv remote to trip the alarm on your smoke alarm, the alarm I pulled down and have in my desk before me goes off at the same time! Oh Universe. What are you doing today?

I'm not so sure it's a coincidence. I found this video searching for a fix, and when he adjusted his remote to test in the video, mine went off.

0:25 the reson it does that because first alart design it tht way so if it's on a very high selling you can test it with the remote same with the 1980 alarms

Any idea what would cause a false alarm? One of my went off tonight and set them all off. Cleared the whole house, no fire or smoke to be found. Kinda aggravating cause these units are only about a year old

It could be dust or small bugs inside the smoke alarm

Guys lots of fire alarms go off if they hear other fire alarms, like if you had a broken one, all the others in your house would hear it and go off to
I’ve been dealing with this shit for years with different rooms. I’m in a two bedroom unit, I have two (one in each room) that will tandem go off, the alarms are in different rooms but share the same wall, they are hardwired. BUT FEAR NOT...the living room one is a solo act.

This does not fix the problem. My alarms go off all the time when I am away at work. has NOTHING to do with remote controls because I never turn anything on in the morning before I leave and nobody is home all day. Single family house and not near any other residences. These effin things go off whenever they feel like it!
Same problem! I have 2 that trigger randomly about once a week. No smoke, not installed in a poorly ventilated area, etc. Wits end

Does it sometimes take a couple tries to get it beep? I’ll hold the button when closing the battery drawer but it won’t beep. Thinking of calling brk and seeing if they will maybe just warranty it. Less than a year old.

I used to have this same alarm upstairs in my house, we eventually got rid of it because this kept happening (and it scared the crap out of me every time it happened, heh). Never knew it could be due to use of a TV remote nearby! And also, never knew a fix this simple existed. Too bad I didn't even think to look it up til I stumbled across this video.

I just had this happen!! I bought a house with Kidde smoke/CO alarms upstairs and down. I woke this morning to them going off. Could not figure out WTF?? This evening, as the neighbor comes home and sets his truck alarm with his fob, they go off again. I did what you showed here. I'll see what happens. He parks about 20 feet from the downstairs detector.

I wish you showed how you got the connector unplugged. I tried for 30 minutes and couldn't do it. I don't want to pry too hard on the locking latch nor pull too hard on the connector. In your video, it's already disconnected.

The instructions say use a flathead screwdriver to pry the latch away from the plug , then pull the plug. It’s tough to pry the latch. I didn’t want to pull the plug too hard.
You have the First Alert SCO7CN. You should not install it in the family room
Also, do they interconnect? They're supposed to interconnect
Is there a way to disable the interconnect feature?
Not that I know of 😞
If they are hard wired, turn off the circuit supplying the detector you want “disconnected” then uncap the wire from the pigtail lead to the interconnect signaling wire. Usually uses the red wire in a 14/3 cable. The wire on the pigtail, usually orange or red, and the signal wire(/s) should be capped in the junction box. If in and out 14/3, make sure to keep the in wall wiring capped together and the pigtail on it’s own, to maintain interconnection of the remaining detectors.
You will be violating a code requirement, in terms of the interconnection, and may be placing your homeowner’s fire coverage at risk, so DO NOT do this if you are not the owner resident, willing to assume personal responsibility for any liability, arising from your choice. Sometimes the choice is sanity versus safety, with randomly false alarming smoke detectors.
Mine is weird wr are in a apartment and it keeps going off every 4 min and we took the batteries out and it kept beebing
That's because your alarms are hardwired with a battery backup. Smoke alarms should be replaced every 10 years so that may be an issue. When ours went off because they needed replacing, I too took out the batteries and the alarms kept going off, so I went to the electrical box and switched off the breaker, that stopped the alarms. Then I called an electrician and had all the alarms replaced.

The smoke detector has low battery and smoke detectors malfunction when they have low battery and you need to replace the battery so it won't happen again
I had the same issue with the same brand Smoke Detector in my Appt. It's not always a battery issue, because I've replaced my detectors like 3-4 times with fresh batteries right after a random false alarm and it would still happen. I mean unless I got a bad batch of batteries and they all came in the pack almost dead. I haven't tried the tip in this video though...
And also your TV might be wired up to the smoke detector to test when you turn the volume up
