Are you getting false alarms from your smoke detectors? In this short video, I'll explain what can cause them and how to easily fix it. Or at least give you an effective way to prevent random alarms. About 2 years ago I replaced all the smoke detectors in my house... about 8 in total. But over the past few months 3 of them had gone off in the middle of the night for no reason. I thought maybe I received a bad batch of detectors.
But with further research I found that the false alarms could be caused by dust and debris in the sensor. While that's true, I found the real reason my detectors were randomly going off. So shortly after I took down the smoke detector that had that had the false alarm, I saw a spider crawl out of it. That's when I realized the spider triggered the alarm.
On one of the detectors in my house, I could see a cob web going from the wall directly to the smoke detector. And I think this one had a false alarm recently as well. The fix is to grab a bottle of compressed air. And I'll list this in the description so it's easy for you to find. Then use it to blow out any dust, cob webs, bugs or debris that might be inside. I have to admit that this is the first time I've done this even though I hear about cleaning all the time.
So keep this in mind if you get random false alarms especially in the middle of the night. Blowing out or vacuuming up smoke detectors every so often can help prevent false alarms in the future.
And here are some final notes. If a smoke detector continues to have false alarms, chirps even with new batteries or is more than 8 to 10 years old, it's actually time to replace it. Also for my particular Kidde unit, the manual says that if the LED blinks twice every 30 seconds, that's the End of Life indicator and it needs to be replaced. I've actually seen this with one of my old detectors. But check your smoke detector's manual for more accurate error messages.

Omg! This happened this morning at 5:39a. Woke me up from a good sleep. I jumped up and ran downstairs and stood shaking at the garage door fearing my house was on fire. I saw a spider on my desk when I was dusting the detector, so hopefully that was the problem. It has stopped beeping ever since.
I think such issues need to be addressed to the manufacturers. For years I have heard nothing but false positives and am now more annoyed than alerted. I think this is a major safety issue
Making them go off for things like low batteries is stupid. People will just remove batteries

Happened today. Alarm ON and OFF after every about 10 minutes. Called 911 they came and found everything safe, they said faulty device and left but Alarm goes off after 10 minutes. And I watched video and cleaned it air now it is silent.

These things have gotten overly sensitive, people will remove them, turn them off, cover them, whatever it takes to silence them. Yeah, you're not suppose to but that's just what people tend to do.
Why don't the smoke detector manufacturers include a button to turn the dam things off when the homeowner sees that there is no fire? I spent an hour this morning trying first to get the alarm off, and then to stop it from chirping every minute. This afternoon, I'm removing the alarm with a crowbar since the unit will not twist off as the instructions declare.
Yeah an alarm silence button would be helpful. I’ve noticed that when I install new smoke detectors that they come with a plastic pin that can be inserted into the side of the smoke detector which locks it to the mounting plate in the ceiling. With this pin in place you won’t be able to rotate the detector to remove it. Not sure if that’s the issue with yours. But personally I’ve never installed the pin nor have I run into one where someone actually used it.
One carbon monoxide went off to trigger the other two detectors at 1 am. Disconnected the one that could be faulty and leaf blower the other one that is still going off. Eventually disconnected the second one. Third monoxide detector was chill. Reconnecting the 2nd detector and its kool. Check all electrical w/in my home, all is good.
If a spider comes out of one of my alarms I’m going to murder the shit out of it for ruining my sleep
Same with me rn just woke up from a nightmare and now I’m hearing this blaring beeping every 40 seconds. Even tho I didn’t want to, I was ready to get up early and change it until I learned there could be spiders or other bugs interfering with it. Now I’m like.. GREAT! 😀🥲😵💫

I think my house alarms that came with the house effecting it how would one turn it off
Twice we've had a spider set off our interconnected alarms. The first time took several days to discover the problem. The second time, I took down all the smoke detectors and waited until one went off, which told me where to find the spider. Then I cleaned all of them and re-attached them. Twenty minutes start to finish.
Everything presented in this video is accurate, but it doesn't solve the problem that minutes after you clean the smoke detectors, another spider can crawl inside (or a fruit fly or whatever). This is a design flaw that has been corrected by Aico smoke detectors. They have eliminated false alarms caused by bugs, but they are (i), British, (ii) powered by 230 volts, and (iii) honkin' expensive for units with battery back-up (10-year lithium ion). Kiddie and others need to get with the program!

Ive not long ago had new smoke alarms fitted in my flat,every time I run a bath now,The smoke Alarm keeps going of all the time,All the steam goes out of the bathroom door,In to the hall way,Beep Beep Beep Beep Beep Beep Beep Beep.........................It's loud
My alarms keep going off from steam when I make food.

Glad you got the spider out. When I first saw the spider come out of my smoke detector it made me realize that the random false alarms were most-likely caused by a spider or other bug instead of a faulty smoke detector.

What if it goes off after the air con shuts off and goes off again after the air cons starts. Ive noticed that on mine.
I'm having a similar issue, two different Tyco PG 9936 Power G wireless detectors falsing in the middle of the night. Both had ceiling fans running on low nearby but 3 feet away. I bought this home a year ago and I suspect airborne dust is the culprit despite a clean environment. The house has new paint and carpet months ago, I dusted everything and replaced my air filters with Merv 13 4 inch deep filters a second time now. Lower Merv ratings are too porous imo. I will relocate my detectors further away from the return air vents and ceiling fan to avoid airborne particles, I replaced the non functioning electronic filters in the hvac system last December, perhaps this info will assist you in your diagnosis.
@@scooby0068 yes, I believe it was dust inside and dirt. I unplugged it off the wall completely. Changed batteries, cleaned everything. It hasn't it done it since I cleaned it inside. Fixed the issue. Thanks
