9 Classic Mountain Bikes from the Whistler Bike Park

- Опубликовано: 8 июл 2024
- If you took a look at the lift line in the Whistler Bike Park, you'd notice the majority of bikes being high-end, carbon, and multiple thousands of dollars. However, there are still a few classic bikes that have stood the test of time and are still shredding the bike park trails.

"Where'd you get it"
"My mom"
"NicE"
hahahaa we all know shes a baby hahah
"Does it matter?"
"No"
Awesome. Correct answer.
The first guys whole setup, wardrobe and all was classic.
"Hey, it works" is probably his creed. A man after my own heart
White Bros DH2... ya i'm old.
I’m 3 years late… but I had a Dh2 and man do I miss those oily stanchions
My white bros dh2s still going strong in 24
Love to see people, who just ride bikes and don’t care about new tech .. I am tech victim
Me too, pal
But I really need to get this dropper post
What kind of tech ?
Ben CF I just ordered new Nicolai G1 and thinking about SRAM AXS for my gravel bike. Not because I need it bud because I like it ....
Michal Weingart if you like it and not going to make yourself bankrupt then why not 😂😂
@@lordofzwirn It's the same with any hobby mate, you just wanna keep pumping money into unnecessary shit.
As long as you enjoy it, it's all good
So do you know the angles? “No I'm new to biking, so...” Whats the best part on the bike? “The rear shock, I never had one as good as this”
@@smokes420 /watch?v=dUZj9tfCbUE
@@smokes420 Its probably his first rear shock
I guarantee when he's sitting down one pedal is all the way down and the other is up
@@UltimateMTB hope not, hell destroy himself and the bike that way.
@@610smoke yeah, I hope not too, but I've seen far too many people make this beginner mistake when going to downhill bike mountains... luckily the people with their pedals like this are usually going under 3mph anyway
This is the reason why Jason was missing in Mahalo my dude
He knew that it would get dirty
Yep
Rip jason
The transition looks like the new trek caliper
Yep
26 Aint Dead!
No it ain’t
Dirty Bike TV 26 is the best size. Riding on 24” now tho, it just feels great, more fun than bigger sizes. But i still think 26 is the best wheel size
@@eldelabicidecolores the same) 24" and 26" wheelset for both my hardtail and fullsus, just great!
@@MangoJim90 24 cзади и 26 спереди? В чем фишка?
@@pojiloybivis9421 попробуй;)
I have to say videos like this are my favorite, just regular folks and their bikes. Whats great is everyone's bike is different, and they all love riding them. I'd watch this feature every week if Pinkbike would film it. The transition looked great but that old V10's colour was on point!
I really like the retro gambler. I think the goemetry looks pretty cool
I had one. Was a really good bike. Rock solid and pretty adjustable and slack for how old it is. I still recommend those frames to beginners.
Never really looked at Scott's before but after seeing that Gambler my eyes have been opened.
I had the one of the old Scott FX series bikes. Killer!
OMG, this is SUCH a good idea for a segment guys. I could have watched this all day.
Some of these older frames look legit, almost like motorbike style
The bottle rocket is sweet
Harvie Hartrup I just picked up a 2012 bottlerocket. It’s excellent
I got a 2010 bottlerocket great bike but heavy loves jumps
Heavy like.. how much ?
@@thomsbikes3628 The frame is about 8 pounds without a shock
I still own one that runs 24s on it lol .
3:59 - that's the spirit. i rode my santa cruz chameleon for 13 years straight. now it falls apart and i got a new one. i hope this one will last at least the same :)
Doctor Bong sold my chameleon DJ bike last week and I miss it
i have a santa cruz chameleon still ride it
3:20 THATS MY UNCLE THAT GOT ME INTO MOUNTAIN BIKING
Urmomscivic tell him hell yeah he’s got a sweet bike
Your uncle rocks
26" for life !!
Those ‘05 a-lines were wicked. Going from a NORCO Bigfoot to the A-Line gave me a confidence on the hard tracks I never knew I had
This is great - I think it's important to show everyone that riding a bike isn't about what you ride. It's about getting out there and riding and having fun. They're great conversation starters too. They also ride differently - so the new kids on all their flash bikes don't actually know how to ride an older bike. Personally I love them and it's great to see they're still kicking around and getting life - not sitting in a shed for decades!
these kona bikes are real monsters i mean all those years and they look so good and can take so much beating
More of this Format pleeeeeaaaase
The thing I like most about this video was the amount of new riders to the sport. Buying used or older models is such a great way to get into this sport without spending a massive load.
its so damn cool to see folks riding older models thats what i call love for bikes 🥰
The "new standards" only change for the sake of sales, and though the handling has changed to make things easier for someone to ride overall, these "classics" are all very capable beasts no matter the age.
Yes and no. I've been in the industry off and on for close to 21 years now. Compared to early/mid 2000's bikes, a modern 150mm trail bike will allow the average rider to conquer more terrain than they previously could.
For example rather than a Large frame being much taller than a small but almost the same length on older bikes, Larges on newer bikes are rather longer or slacker while only being slightly taller. That and much better frame geometry, gone are the days of 71 degree head angles and short top tubes with long stems to compensate.
a new bike is always going to be more capable with the same rider on the same terrain, but for really twisty stuff that's not too steep the old school can be the way to go!
And you know they could shred too ... Appreciate people who don't care about anything but the riding ... I'm not one of those people though, the tech is a fun part of the hobby for me, keeps me occupied during the winter when the parks are closed and I'm not riding as often.
I ride a 2005 Giant Reign 2. This bike is like a time capsule. I bought the frame new in 2005, had it built and only rode it for about a year. I then got into motocross and went full in and the Giant sat in the garage. Gave up MX a couple years ago and got back into mountain biking. Changed the tires and tubes, serviced the fork (Rock Shox Pike 426 coil), changed out the brakes, changed bars and stem to wider modern bars and new seat. Loving this bike all over again! I was really thinking of getting a new bike, but this old Giant is just a joy to ride. I am thinking I need a dropper seat post.
Saw an 05 reign hit the 50ft table top at CHCH bike park. That guy layed it up so flat.
Feels good to not be the only one with a mid 2000s era bike. 08 khs lucky 7
01 stumpjumper
I have a KHS FR1500 hanging on the wall 😁👍
07 Yeti 575
"you don't need a new bike each year" best quote of the video. I personally don't ride my bikes until they fall apart, i am right now on my second full sus bike which i bought at the end or 2019, being a 19 model year and new bikes were coming in meant that i got a really good price on it (trek remedy 7). before that did i buy a 2010 specialized stumpjumper fsr comp at the end of 2010 which meant that i got a good price for that bike too and i ran that bike until i bought my trek and i will probably be on this trek for another 7+ years before i feel the desire to swap it for something new.
I love this. There is nothing that will force you to be as good with your technique as possible than riding an old bike. Compared to modern bikes, they demand a lot more skill to go the same speed, but if you have the goods, you can still be one of the fastest ones out there on old tech. Ask me (and my 2010 Giant Reign) how I know!
Luv this video. I have a 2000 specialized enduro that had its first down hill run this year .
Makes me feel good to see these bikes still being ridden hard! Run whatya brung!!
Love to see MORE!! Classic Mountain Bikes !!! as i like to ride them .
This was an awesome idea for a video. Do another later. Really enjoyed watching this.
This video makes me excited for next season. Wish I went up the lift one more time last weekend.
I had the 2005 Norco A-line that was my first DH bike.... LOVED IT!
Everything I own is older than anything in this video. Love it! Sometimes I still ride around on a Bontrager Race Lite with a Mag 21 up front. I did upgrade the crown to a threadless steerer a while back though.
Nice!! My first DH bike was a 1996 Santa Cruz Super 8. The "pre gussets" Super 8. Super old school.
Respect for oldscool view. Really cool.
Sweet bikes! =)
I still got my Gary Fisher CR-7, from 1990. Not seen much action the last 10 years. Before that it was a daily driver. Fully classic XT kitted.
Also got a Crescent iLions trials bike. It's a 2nd gen with circular tube frame. I cracked both the frame and fork of the 1st gen square tubed frame, manufacturer swapped both to 2nd gen, no questions asked since it's a team bike. I bought the frame and fork through the bike shop I worked at.
Ride on out there! =)
Still rocking my '08 Norco XXXX and proud of it. The very best short travel FS bike designed by a human.
Some of those older rigs are sick! Have just picked up a 2007ish ironhorse yakuza in really good condition for not a lot, kinda heavy but still feels pretty capable.
yess! soo sick to see the old rig's up an running! :)
I had a Scott Gambler 2012 WC. I loved the older frame design, it was beefy and basically indestructible. At 22kg it wasn't light but for going downhill it was amazing, it was bright blue with yellow wheels, red chain ring and pedels. Loudest bike at the bike park for sure. Then 1 year ago it was stolen from me, that's life I guess. 5:27. There we go knew I would see one!
The dudes that ride those kinda weird and classic old bikes, sometimes shred so hard, so all the fancy carbon riders just drop their jaws...
Still ride my 05 Santa Cruz heckler, love it.
Zac Youngson
These are the bikes I drooled over growing up riding, & to see them still getting use is cool. That stinky is prime
i love seeing these classic bikes! I have a new bike but also a specialized enduro comp sl just like lady in the video.
A bunch of dope bikes and peeps riding them!👊🏽☕🌵
Great video!! I'm a broke MBT enthusiast so I've got a cheap £60 bike for now but times are heard so it's so nice for me to see so many nice people with nice things it just makes me have more faith so to speak 🧐😅😂 peace n love to you all 🙌✌️🌹❤️
I love my 2008 Rocky RMX 🙌🏼
White Brothers DH-2 Forks!!! I have one of those that I ran on my Rotec DH-9 back in the day! Great fork!!
Thanks! Was fun to see.
Damn that Bolt Thrower long sleeve looks amazing.
Very cool segment!
Just got myself a first Generation GT ruckus the other week as my first downhill bike. The frames as old as me but it's got some decent upgrades and still shreds!
Until now still got my old Spez Bighit, runnin on both 24" love those old school dh rigs. 😍
First guy - White Brother DH2 lusted over that fork back in the day
That Aline head angle!! :O
My 06 norco shore 3 ‘n 09 BigHit 2 loves this line up!
All these old bikes make me wish I hadn't sold my 2003 Iron Horse SGS with its Marzocchi Bomber Super T Pro fork. It could send staircases and loading docks all day and was practically indestructible, but my local XC-oriented trails couldn't justify keeping the super plush 45 lbs machine.
"I love the marzowattchy triple 8" ;)
This is so bad ass. Love it. If it aint broke, ride it.
I love the tradition bottle rocket! soooooo good. I used to have the gravity dropper too!
Yo, this is sick content!! Keep up the good work!! 🤘🤘
They all are beautiful bikes...!
5:28 i can see kaz in the background
I remember the Big Hit ! Those were awesome .
old school was the best, love to see this awesome models. great
The stinky amd the Norco brings back a lot of memories .
1:25 That is the sickest bike I've ever seen. Looks tho cool😍
Awesome Video!!!!
Great idea, this is an awesome video and should become a recurring feature of yours, if you can, say every beginning or end of season. I’m a nerd and always love to check the equipment other riders are using, especially outdated but still cool looking bikes like some of those.
Even though I ride a 2018 Tues now, I still have my 1999 Foes DHS with a Foes Wet One F1 inverted fork, modified to have an MRP slalom chain guide, 24 inch rear...built it when I worked at a shop...it is still sick...every single component was hand picked. Still holds its own for sure.
MORE OF THIS SORT OF THINGS
i love my old 26" i don't think i could ever get rid of it
Santa Cruz v10 looks awesome. I've got a VP Free from about the same era and similar spec by the looks of it.
Love this channel
i love my 2007 norco A-line VPS built to take whatever you through at it!
in a few more years ill probably upgrade to a 2019 YT that black and yellow speaks to me!
I had an '06 Sinister R9 back in 2011. Heavy, but amazing to ride. Still miss it.
The specialised big hit the front fork is White Brothers DH 2.0
Nice vid m8. The second one (v10) is awesome
those bikes are sick
Meanwhile, I'm riding a '96 Santa Cruz Heckler with rim brakes...
98 GT Zaskar here
Well if it still works keep shredding
I got an 01 stumpjumper but I'm getting hydro breaks soon
@@farisguerouate655 still running xt parallel pull brakes (look like v brakes but not quite)
98 khs fxt team.
Great video!
Saw a guy who had 1998 Shimano MTB frame but he installed 3 modified monoshocks and 6 feet extended mudguard...
The most gorgeous MTB I've ever seen...Maybe because of the monoshocks...
5:55 I got the same dhx5 shock, air version, from 2007 or so... bought it used and serviced it for about 250 dollars, preforms really well, I can even compare it to something like a new topaz 3 from DVO which costs twice as much and has less customization.
Beautiful bikes. Go ride!
0:40 That fork is a WhiteBros DH2
Correct, drove the DH3 in blue myself 😊
Correct, rode for them in 00
Wow inverted forks 20 years ago?
@@rajgill7576 Yup. White Brothers was purchased by MRP. There were quite a few inverted forks in the late 90's, early 00's. Mr. Dirt, Avalanche, White Brothers, Magura Big Ego, Marzocchi Shiver, Stratos. Inverted forks ride so much goddamn better.
@@bryantrudy568 agreed! Sprung weight makes a difference, on motorcycles as well
massive respect to the guy wearing a bolt thrower shirt
"Where'd you get it"
"My mom"
"NicE"
What a great video for us older folks.
Just get out there and ride. Think I’ll pull out my old Cannondale Judge for old times sake😁👌🏼
0:44 the fork is White Brothers DH2, you can see the DH2 stickers on the front, White Brothers got acquired by MRP, they offer spare parts and service of White Brothers suspension.
Please keep making videos like this
Loved the dude in the Boltthrower shirt.
It perfect to understand the bike not laters the most important thing is that you what you have to achieve what you want
Love the Stinky Supreme. Pined after one as a kid
First fork is a White Brothers DH-2.
Bike is a 2002 big hit DH and I believe it came with a Shiver.
Still got my old school huckers, my Karpiel and Evil Imperial hardtail, they always draw a crowd still
Big hit one I love it
Do that again. That was fun.
sick ride nice fbeeeping ride
I have a 2011 Kona and it’s just the best
THANK YOU!
