Agreed ... This is some of my favorite content on RUclips. Got into MTB in 2017 but appreciate and love learning it's history. All the bikes nowadays, mine included are pretty much all the same. These though, they have a story, a history and a ton of character. And you know these dudes could rip.
seeing the cove being featured made me so happy, i have a 2012 cove std that has treated me incredibly well but i’ve only ever seen 2 bikes by cove up and running, mine and the one shown in this video. it’s a forgotten brand but the emblem will forever remain a classic, and a big thanks to pinkbike for featuring the counterpart to my pride and joy.
Love the Status Renault F1, I used to go to les portes du soleil with my Renault Megane RS, still the fastest FWD car. So much fun to destroy Porsche, M3 and Audi R8 on the Nurb with a humble cheap small car.
I grew up on mountain biking with those bikes in magazines, since at that time the internet was not what it is today, it reminded me how good Marsochi's suspensions were back then, thanks for sharing this video, greetings!
The Specialized 2008, and the Kona Fabian Barrel were the most interesting for me!! But all those old bikes were really impressive to see still working on these days!!
It's too bad that the industry changes the bicycles standards so often, it really makes it hard to find quality spare parts for older bikes, like 26 inch wheels and tires. They no longer make the spokes for my wheels and the bike is just ten years old and works great.
There are always spokes out there unless you have a specific Mavic or I9 etc combo. Be resourceful. Tons of companies still make 26” stuff and the second hand market has loads
right.!! I have a 95/96 Specialized ground control. full suspension. and my problem is upgrading the forks. can't find a replacement that can operate reliably.
@@ericb4608 can always run 27.5 (650b) front shocks. It should work with 26" wheels no problem. May increase your head angle a very small amount but the 26" wheel will offset that a bit. Just got to make sure you have the right headset (which can also be changed to work with whatever just about). I'm all about 26" for dj and freeride, I've researched parts swapping semi old bikes alot..Some say certain things cant be done, I say there just lazy or never tryed..
The position of the fork rubber bumpers on that Cove is a thing by itself :D Also if the guy with the Kona Stab happens to be watching, rotate your shock spring. It sits in the worst position on the spring retainer.
I have the Homegrown version of the Schwinn 4 Banger, mine is a slight restomod with an adventX drivetrain, but it also has a dual crown RS Judy XC XL on it from '98. A very underrated 90s gem
My first DH bike was in 2001 and I bought a used 1999 Kona Stab Dee-lux. I've had tons of DH bikes since then including everything from Specialized Bighits to carbon Demo's, Intense, Pivot and Santa Cruz, but I wish I still had my 1999 Kona Stab Dee-lux.
Another antique Rocky Mountain rider checking in, my Bessie is an Element Race from 2001. Sadly I'm stuck in Chatham, ON - it's flat like Nebraska here but I love finding trails and exploring out in the countryside. She's still a super smooth ride and has most of her original bits! Oh Canada!
I love how these "classic" bike checkers pretend to marvel at the older gear. "You have pretty narrow handlebars....can you find 26 tires these days?" It is so passive aggressive.
@inbox me on👉👉 pinkbike wait wait.. my pink bike account is really old.. haven’t been online for years since my bikes got stolen from my garage and I have a lot of kidneystones… which have basically kept me off the bike.. where can I dm you on pink bike?
I, too, love the love for these 'outdated' bikes and that Renault tribute finish, c'mon now, too much fun and the fun of it all. And one of these days I'm gonna build up a gravel bike in the colors of the NASCAR 1994 Ford Quality Care Thunderbird driven that year by Lake Speed and prepared by the famed Bud Moore team in South Carolina. Such a cool car and I got to do some photographic work for the team that year.
Wow! I loved seeing the Specialized big hit. I think it’s an 08, the 06 in the same colour had a 24inch rear wheel. A proper old-school mullet bike. I’ve still got an FSR 1 2007 big hit and it rips!
I was hoping to see a Big Hit on here! So cool! I had a 2004 Specialized Big Hit and it was a blast to ride. It was extremely heavy compared to today's bikes, but I could drop off anything with that bike. I would go do urban assault around Minneapolis and Saint Paul to find things to gap and drop on that bike because we really didn't have anything in our area for such a big bike. I ended up selling it after a couple of years simply because I didn't ride it much.
Specialized status is probably one of the most underrated bikes out there, it's light and poppy for a dh bike and can soak up tech at the same time. They also go for under 1k on the second hand market. P.S Even Commencal is using the status linkage in their furious and clash
Some sick, clapped out old rigs here!! I've still got my 1998 Super 8 and my 2003 M1 laying around. I see a "Moab Utah" - Chile Pepper Bike shop sticker on the down-tube of that that Specialized at 7:09 on the down tube!!
I'm still rocking a 2009 devinci wilson with updated parts. It's the perfect super plush 4 bar design and still as light as any new bike frame. Plus it's 26 which is so much fun to ride.
You can still buy newoldstock deraulliers mounted on the axle, but you need to pay attention if it is the one that matches you axle and frame. Because there were several combinations. Coil springs for 38mm 888 are not that hard to find. Of course depends what stiffnes you are looking for... But overall it is easier to get them than 35s.
Mate, where's the Scream... the RMX... the Stinky... the G-Spot... the Demo 9... the Sunday???? All that stuff was new (apart from the Schwinn)!, but big props for the Diabolous cranks on the STD!
Ah! the Straight 6 ... who made that frame? Because the Yeti team used it. Last cool Schwinn? There was a history but I don´t remember. That RM is still a monster ... very cool.
theres still plenty 26 inch tyres about. i have a nukeproof scalp that uses 26 inch tyres, however theres talks that 27.5 fits so might have to give that a go
I don't feel too bad now for fixing up a vintage Frank the Welder Mongoose now. Fairly light. Great little CC bike. Fixing for my son as it's his birth year. I've always wanted cars of my birth year yet he wants a bike. Kinda cool young man he is!!
I always run into bike snobs who bash any bike that isn't brand new...i love showing up to a mountain and seeing people shredding with old super hooptie bikes
Thanks to the Pinkbike crew for showing off my Renault F1 bike. She’s good from far but far from good!
love that rig!
Tom, you that machine and Fernando Alonso are freaking beauties, thanks for talking with us! - Tom
QUE GRANDE ERES MAGIC!
Dude as a massive F1 fan myself, you are a legend.
My favourite by far! So damm cool.
Thanks for letting me show off my Cove Shocker. I've lovingly named her Kimberly after the Pink Power Ranger
Thanks heaps for chatting to us Jordan and Kimberly! - Tom
I love kimberly the most amongst all... that is AWESOME
It's a shame Cove doesn't make bikes anymore. I had a 2013 G-Spot.
Lady never get rid of it, It's a masterpiece!
These are always so much more interesting than the vids interviewing people riding the same 5 modern bikes (ripmo, stumpjumper, etc.)
Agreed ... This is some of my favorite content on RUclips. Got into MTB in 2017 but appreciate and love learning it's history. All the bikes nowadays, mine included are pretty much all the same. These though, they have a story, a history and a ton of character. And you know these dudes could rip.
I love that these older bikes are still flying down hills with people who love riding them. So good to see. Happy ripping!
Loving the Alonso Renault bike, I worked for the team during these great years, nice to see the race shirt too🙌
legend! Team Enstone forever
I could watch content like this for hours. Great owners too. Kudos
seeing the cove being featured made me so happy, i have a 2012 cove std that has treated me incredibly well but i’ve only ever seen 2 bikes by cove up and running, mine and the one shown in this video. it’s a forgotten brand but the emblem will forever remain a classic, and a big thanks to pinkbike for featuring the counterpart to my pride and joy.
Big fan of Cove, still rocking a 2010 Cove STD for lift day duty.
I've got an 04 Cove Stiffee. All original gear too. Have never serviced the 66's. Gears sometimes skip but not badly.
I still ride my 2010 Cove G-spot weekly and can still keep up with the guys on the 29's
that renualt is one of the fuuniest/sickest bikes ive ever seen
Dude with the F1 is a LEGEND!!
such a great series, you really have a lot of fun with the riders and legitimately love their bikes.
This Renault guy got the attitude, loving it💥
got an old Kona Stinky from '08 and it's a beast! Cool seeing other old Konas out there!
Love the Status Renault F1, I used to go to les portes du soleil with my Renault Megane RS, still the fastest FWD car. So much fun to destroy Porsche, M3 and Audi R8 on the Nurb with a humble cheap small car.
the fact that Fernando Alonso also rides mountain bikes makes it really cool
Absolutely love seeing these bikes. Inspired me to build up a retro Rig and shred
I grew up on mountain biking with those bikes in magazines, since at that time the internet was not what it is today, it reminded me how good Marsochi's suspensions were back then, thanks for sharing this video, greetings!
First bloke is an inspiration. Geometry of that Rocky Mountain Flatline was so ahead of its time!
That Shocker is fantastic!!!
And this is why I love my 01 trek diesel dh it always sparks up a conversation at the trail head or any where else I ride it 😁
Love the ‘deckles’ on that Renault f1 bike
I went to whistler for the first crankworks with my 03 banshee scream, still ride it and will return next year for its 20 year reunion
The Specialized 2008, and the Kona Fabian Barrel were the most interesting for me!! But all those old bikes were really impressive to see still working on these days!!

26 wheels never dies cos them are the best
A lot of people raced those Kona bikes back in the 90s. They work really good
The position of the fork rubber bumpers on that Cove is a thing by itself :D
Also if the guy with the Kona Stab happens to be watching, rotate your shock spring. It sits in the worst position on the spring retainer.
That Stab. Wow
I have the Homegrown version of the Schwinn 4 Banger, mine is a slight restomod with an adventX drivetrain, but it also has a dual crown RS Judy XC XL on it from '98. A very underrated 90s gem

Woo Whistler! So fun! So many cool bikes!
Thumbs up for the MacRide and getting the little ones out on the trails! my 4yr old daughter loves her MacRide.
Fernando Alonso bike 👌👌💙💛
Another antique Rocky Mountain rider checking in, my Bessie is an Element Race from 2001. Sadly I'm stuck in Chatham, ON - it's flat like Nebraska here but I love finding trails and exploring out in the countryside. She's still a super smooth ride and has most of her original bits! Oh Canada!
The Rocky Mountain is Sweet
I love how these "classic" bike checkers pretend to marvel at the older gear. "You have pretty narrow handlebars....can you find 26 tires these days?" It is so passive aggressive.
WOAH mate! You spent less than $6k on your setup? that's MENTAL
Lol, can you find 26" tires? Ever heard of dirt jump or trials bikes?
That big hit is a 2006-7 I had the exact same one. What a beast at this time.
O LORD that big Hit..... give that guy a propper bike please! he deserves it
@inbox me on👉👉 pinkbike wait wait.. my pink bike account is really old.. haven’t been online for years since my bikes got stolen from my garage and I have a lot of kidneystones… which have basically kept me off the bike.. where can I dm you on pink bike?
I really like also seeing those bikes that are mostly more affordable
I, too, love the love for these 'outdated' bikes and that Renault tribute finish, c'mon now, too much fun and the fun of it all. Such a cool car and I got to do some photographic work for the team that year.
I love vids like this so much! Actually found a Big Hit locally right after watching this for like $800 on marketplace. Should I get it....?
Looking good with those old and yet still functioning bikes but hey as long as you guys enjoy just ride and shred them...👌👌👌😎😎😎
These bikes are cool 👌👌
I still rock on old school bike myself 👍
Wow! I loved seeing the Specialized big hit. I think it’s an 08, the 06 in the same colour had a 24inch rear wheel. A proper old-school mullet bike. I’ve still got an FSR 1 2007 big hit and it rips!
Love these kind of videos! awesome
@inbox me on👉👉 pinkbike bruh nice fake bro
Some absolute rigs!
That shiver tho. What a beauty!

GREAT WORK!!! Tom this bike checks are always getting better, cheers 🤘🤘
This was awesome. Makes me want to find older different bikes to collect. 😂🤣🤘🏼🤘🏼
If you think they should do more classic bike checks
👇
Great bikes
Have fun
These bike vids are soo interesting
Some sick, clapped out old rigs here!! I've still got my 1998 Super 8 and my 2003 M1 laying around. I see a "Moab Utah" - Chile Pepper Bike shop sticker on the down-tube of that that Specialized at 7:09 on the down tube!!
flat pedals for the win!! haha
@inbox me on👉👉 pinkbike WHOA!
turns out the no-mech-hanger Kona was way ahead of its time :o
BigHit is 07, I still ride the same one at the park ! Oldy goody, but the '22 enduro I have is way better than a DH bike was back then !
Thanks you - I knew someone would know! - Tom
Insane in the brain.. ^^
Marvelous old bikes and owners :)
@inbox me on👉👉 pinkbike
Okay, I choose as many washing machines as I can bear: None.. ^^
@inbox me on👉👉 pinkbike Thanks a lot, I claim for my prize as many washing machines as I can bear = None.. ^^
Still rocking a 2007 specialized demo. Still rips
I rebuild a specialized Stumpjumper pro fsr from 2009 26" and I love it
26 inch is the best inch
more classic bikes!
I'm still rocking a 2009 devinci wilson with updated parts. It's the perfect super plush 4 bar design and still as light as any new bike frame. Plus it's 26 which is so much fun to ride.
Shocker is the goat
Big nostalgia hit for me:
Hussefelt stem
Diabolus d2 stem
Deemax rims
E13 chainprotector
Grey fox 40s
Bombers
Entrepreneurs listen up; there is a huge hole in the 26" mtb tire market. I'm trying to find some for my 2005 Specialized at this very moment.
CST BFT’s. $25 each. Might have them at your local shop, the fill orders with them
Minion DHF should still be available wherever you are, just run them front and rear, sorted!
Best Video this year 😍
These vids are always great 😅
more of this please
I love nostalgia
@inbox me on👉👉 pinkbike scam?
Love the bikes! Sucks that where I live there's no such cheap bikes!
Man those old Marzocchi Shiver's are so fucking rad.
Magic Alonso
Oh I have this special Saint deraileur, in Czech Republic, but last week I was in Whisler... If I knew it I can bring it :)
I enjoyed that! It's making me regret selling my 2001 Santa Cruz Bullit 🥺
You can still buy newoldstock deraulliers mounted on the axle, but you need to pay attention if it is the one that matches you axle and frame. Because there were several combinations.

Classics 💯💪🏾
Mate, where's the Scream... the RMX... the Stinky... the G-Spot... the Demo 9... the Sunday???? All that stuff was new (apart from the Schwinn)!, but big props for the Diabolous cranks on the STD!
We always want to see like this kind of content!!! Hit like if you agree boiis
2:46 "QUE GRANDE ERES MAGIC!"
Ah! the Straight 6 ... who made that frame? Because the Yeti team used it. Last cool Schwinn? There was a history but I don´t remember.
That RM is still a monster ... very cool.
Yeti made it for Schwinn.
I still have a 04 specialized big hit fsr. Its was the original 24.5 rear x26 front.
All these new fangled machines. I’ll stick to my ‘96 Giant ATX. ✊😬😬
the 05/06 renault f1 status is one of the sickest bikes ive seen.
If you ride a bike called the Shocker, you gotta say "2 in the pink and 1 in the stink" when you nail a jump line.
Still Rolling on my 2013 Spesh Enduro 26"
Makes me miss my old Azonic Eliminator with a Romic shock and 2nd gen Boxxer…
🔥
You can't have Whistmass without a BigHit.
If there's no Stinky Deluxe I riot.
theres still plenty 26 inch tyres about. i have a nukeproof scalp that uses 26 inch tyres, however theres talks that 27.5 fits so might have to give that a go
Status rider ☝️

It was on '07 Big Hit! Cmon guys!
Lets be real smaller 26ers are fun AF
How did I know there was going to be a Kona bike in this lineup?
I wanna see 90's full squish
Does anyone know where you can get a pull shock repaired. I have a 2000 Shwin straight 8 but the rear shock needs a rebuild.
