Isaac was far over the rear end of the bike from the beginning and it looks like the old DH bike only starts to really work if the gradient is at least 20% down. Both bikes seem to have their geometry for completely different reasons and I‘d love to see a deep dive on that with a frame designer.

I've ridden both modern enduro bikes and a modern DH bike, and the DH bike is night and day better through downhill tech even running 27.5 wheels on both ends. The modern DH bike just has this smooth, confident, damped feel that I've never gotten from any single crown bike, though I've ridden an enduro bike on a coil that got close.

Also the comparing of mullet vs 26”. This is pretty much how I expected this test to go. Not as fast on fast sections, but quick switchbacks and very tight stuff, the shorter wheelbase and 26” are probably a bit more playful. But honestly, I’d be quicker on my new bike racing it DH. I still can never get ride of my FSR. If anything, it brings back great memories

These videos seem geared to put down older bikes, to me that's just not entertaining. Can these bikes compete with modern bikes? No, absolutely not, they're from a totally different era. Can they be fun? Absolutely, especially with a geometry update. If you really have to do this comparison, then make it a real comparison. We already know that modern bikes outperform old ones, so modernize the geometry of the older bike and then see how well it can be updated and how it fares against a modern bike in that context.

Enduro bikes are usually designed to be more stable, with DH bikes it kinda depends on the bike. A DH bike that is aimed as more of a park bike, is going to be more playful than a DH bike that is aimed at DH racing. I've ridden a bunch of enduro bikes and they all tend to have a very stable feel. I've ridden one DH bike, a GT Fury and that one was actually more playful than basically any enduro bike I've ridden. I've not tried out any freeride bikes like the RM Slayer, Canyon Torque or Propain Spindrift, though I've heard they tend to be more playful than enduro race bikes.

Both have their pros and cons. And they are so close to one another, just a percent or two separate them. I would have to go with the enduro on this one for a few reasons. Enduro is more suited for all terrain riding (although still some good effort needed on the climbs). The DH, it’s like pushing a tank. Both have capability on the decent. DH has something in reserve with big 200+/- travel, where the enduro may be maxed out with the 170/160. Component availability is also key, with the limited availability of 26 components today (wheels, tires, etc) what happens when something goes wrong and you can not get a replacement for several days? Or if at all! I think I would edge so slightly with the enduro simply for that reason, but by the closest of margins. Now if I were a DH racer, only descending, DH all day.

You are aware the suspension can be upgraded which likely would reduce and possibly even eliminate some of the things your not happy with right? :-) Okay, I can't speak directly about downhill and Endruro bikes specifically, but I can attest that my trail mutt which has much more modern suspension parts rides like a completely different bike from the original setup (bobbing is so little you'd think it was eliminated (not quite, but it's that close), the suspension is more responsive to the terrain, and it's just much easier to dial in today). Don't like the 3x driveline, it can be swapped out for 1x - though given it's a 26er, the wheels would need to be built throwing the budget out a bit. Just saying you might be surprised at what new tech can do for refreshing and modernizing an older ride...
