Groucho never finished school, yet he had a very astute mind. He was a prolific letter writer and corresponded with numerous influential writers of his time. He also wrote a good number of well received books.

As far as I have ever been able to tell, Groucho had the sharpest mind of any human to exist during my lifetime. Sure, you have intellectual giants like Sagan and Hawking and so many others, but the sheer SPEED that Groucho could think at is what's so impressive. Someone says something, his wheels spin for a split-second, click, and he drops something genius, with perfect delivery, every single time. And his written work and scripts, where he had time to work things out more deeply, are nothing short of masterpieces. Annnd, that he manages to be the stand out figure against two brothers who were comedic gods... There have been a lot of sharp minds during my life, but none who could have matched wits with Chico and Harpo, especially together, and come out on top, save for Groucho. And certainly nobody I can think of could match him for verbal wit on the fly. Imagine, just imagine!.. Groucho hosting Jeopardy, or even Family Feud... That fast wit made him the ultimate host on his shows then, and would still make the him the ultimate host of any show now.

Too many classic Groucho lines! One of my favorite quotable Marx Bros. films is Duck Soup:
Mrs. Teasdale: I've sponsored your appointment because I feel you are the most able statesman in all Freedonia.
Rufus T. Firefly: Well, that covers a lot of ground. Say, you cover a lot of ground yourself. You'd better beat it; I hear they're gonna tear you down and put up an office building where you're standing.
*You can leave in a taxi, you can in a huff. If that's too soon, you can leave in a minute and a huff.*
You know, you haven't stopped talking since I came here, you must have been vaccinated with a phonograph needle.
...and of course, "Remember, you're fighting for this woman's honor, which is probably more than she ever did."
    😅😅

Please, please check out Arthur Askey in "Charlie's Big-Hearted Aunt". It's the British one. There's another version with Jack Benny called "Charlie's Aunt," which is good, but you'll see what I mean when you see Arthur Askey's.

Groucho was the greatest! Vaudeville raised, he could roll & do it all. (Sadly considered the father of the cue cars b/c on You Bet Your Life they were concerned about IF he think of clever quips constantly so had possible replies on large cards to be held up for him - the birth of Cue Card for a comedian who did NOT it.)

The absolutely was one of my favorite minds. He ever said that's it we're getting on the steamship in the night of the opera.
The dowager was in front of him and he was dragging a steamer truck. She asked him. "Do you have everything Mr. Firefly"? And his response was "I haven't had any complaints before".
It was sharp yet conversational brilliance

Of course, the whole backstory of that guy is that he’s not a millionaire, but a street fish-peddler that Chico and Harpo knew back in the day who’s posing as a millionaire as part of a scam, so it’s logical that he might not remember the name he’s going by. Doesn’t take away from Groucho’s brilliance however

That's one of my favorite actor traits. No matter what mistakes happen, both of them are thinking "well, I'm not going to cut if he's not". Both of them refusing to be the first to stop the take. Even though the take has been blown, as long as the director isn't calling cut, they are both going to just keep going.

The films are the products of the stage shows, and the stage shows were trial and error for the gags. All 5 Marx brothers honed their stage shows which is why the films are so good.
