The winners are who bought the M1 when it came out. There’s always that feeling that you’re missing out on something if you don’t have the newest model. In this case M1 owners haven’t basically missed out on anything with the new models and it’s been in use for three years already. I’d skip the M3 because I feel like we’re bound to get a bigger upgrade coming up with the M4.
I feel like an absolute winner because I got my M1 max in may, renewed from Amazon just for 2149, with 8 battery cycles, brand brand new. Couldn't be more happy.
M1 Max was a money grab tho. Even a used one is still ludicrously expensive now, but a base M3 can easily compete with it or even outperform it at a fraction of the price. That's truly astounding.
@@JorstenYes and no. M1 Max still has better raw GPU performance and more memory by default (at least 32 GB). M3 is better for smaller & shorter tasks or ones that are very specialized like raytracing
For M4 I expect another 15-20 percent CPU & GPU boost. Maybe more GPU cores or hardware acceleration. GPU has been more of a focus as the CPU is already good enough but for compute heavy tasks the M series has more room for improvement. This will help with 3D stuff in terms of creation of 3d assets, gaming and of course AR/VR that Apple is looking to get further into.
Might as well wait for the M5
I'd love to hear about the comparison between 14" Macbook Pro with M3 Pro, and the 14" (or 16") Macbook Pro with M2 Max. Since M2 Max refurb will be close in price to the M3 Pro line of systems. Also has the change in architecture made any improvements to thermal management (throttling with the 14" system with M3 Max)?

Got M1 max coz I like apple environment and also to play a bit. So I expect to get a really good configuration with M3 Max as well news games more and more developed on. So more test on games natives or not would be grateful. (Benchmark, Tflops, etc. )
Great vid thanks. I am a music producer. I have a M1 macbook air and i hardly have ever seen a CPU overload. Its a little monster. All this with no fans!! A music producer's dream.
yeah im pushing insane loads in Logic and never had an issue. maybe some plugins that still use rosetta but most are caught up now
I don’t know how impressive any of the M3 numbers are. It has 128mb of ram vs 64mb on the other 2. A fair comparison would be same configuration or close enough to it. Either way I see no reason to upgrade from my M2 Max even if I had an M1 Max I’d feel it was more than capable.

I'm a videographer/photographer (shoot with a Sony A7IV, edits on DaVinci Resolve) that's currently in the market for a MacBook pro. Debating between the 16-inch M1 max with 32 or 64gb of ram (about $2,400-$2,800). Or should I go for a 16-inch M3 Pro with 18gb ram (priced at $2,700)? I'm waiting for Black Friday/Cyber Monday to see if there are any further discounts on the M1 Max MacBooks. But any thoughts or suggestions would be appreciated as to where my money would be better off spent.

I have the M1 max and its a beast in Resolve. never skipped a beat, although I edit in BRAW so not sure how sony codecs push through in resolve.
go anything with 64gb because i also was suffering with large files. Remember you will be having multiple windows open at once
at the moment i have m1 max 32gb and still it feels its slow when i work with 5000 images in one go
I have an M1 as well 16 gb memory with internal 1tb. I work and edit on adobe premiere pro and about 70% of my projects playbacks/render/export- are still so slow. (I'm talking hours to overnight for 15s-1min vids.) Even with vfx being muted, 1/8 playback quality, everything turned off to make it faster, and still it's so slow.. Same with Photoshop, i close all tabs/programs, charger plugged in.. I guess a mac studio sounds the way to go for me? Id love to hear your thoughts. @@flipnap2112
B&H had an amazing sale on the M1 Max MacBook Pro with 64GB of Ram and 4TB of SSD for $2700! Added 3 years of AppleCare on top of that for a total of $3100. And honestly I do not regret it. This thing runs crazy fast and so far has handled everything I’ve thrown at it with zero issues! I think I’ll be good for the next 5 years or so!

Comes down to what you’re going to put the machine through. If it’s high end intensive use then maybe you could notice a difference between M1 and M3. Otherwise for most people M1 is very capable. Just look for minimum of 512 hard drive and 16GB ram as these configurations seem to perform better than the base ones.

save the money and get yourself the m1 max if you can. the ssd speed is actually faster. you honestly wouldn't notice the performance difference. its literally secs between each system. I have a M2 pro and my partner have a M3 max and there's no noticeable difference between the 2 tbh. It all depends how much you use it and how much processing power you use while using it. we all know that apple "future proof" their products but they always stop sending software updates after a couple years so that we can buy up. hope its not too late, save your money.

My laptop (MacBook pro 2012 design) will be ten years old next year so it’s time for me to upgrade. My dream laptop would be the M3 max version of the MacBook Pro. I will miss having a CD-ROM though. My laptop still has that.
If you’re using a 2012 MB then you obviously don’t need a M3 max. Get an M1 and upgrade to the M4 in a couple of years. Much cheaper that way and you will have newer machines.

I just ordered a 14 inch M2 Max from Costco for $2,200, I think for that price it's a steal, I don't need the M3 Max.

@@npc2k I haven’t done any video editing in a while, but this is last years top of the line MacBook Pro from Apple, it will edit video just fine. I think it will be superior to the M3 pro in all ways but one… battery life.

I Noticed that not only did you test different Processors bur also none of the Macbooks had the same amount of memory. The newer gens had more memory the older had less . I would of thought the test would have same amount of memory just different processors.
My M1 Max is still too powerful for everything I need in my daily routine!

Depends on the workload 8GB will easily have memory pressure issues. I have to be careful with 16GB even.

Can get. A 12 cpu 30 gpu 1tb ssd M2 Max 14 inch on finance I can either get this and start making music ; video editing or wait till the m3 max comes out never bought a Mac as I’m hesitant guess I can wait another 2 weeks or so for the m3 max

Why can't they just get people to return their mbps and have the new innards swapped out with the new M3 chip? It's the same darn chassis right same display, same ports ???? Another channel, another video that mostly just does video editing tests as if that is indicative of differences between the processors wheres as most of the heavy listing is done by dedicated media engine on the chip unlike Windows PCs where it is mostly delegated to GPU.
