- One of the best racing series ever. FIA GT1.
The biggest regret I have is that I didn't film that much when I went to these races. I was big into photography at the time (I still am though). And I bought my first camcorder in 2012 when FIA GT1 didn't exist anymore. :-/
So I've missed many great moments and sounds on video.
Stil here are some clips with those screaming and rumbling supercars.

The glory days of GT1. If they were still around there's no telling how fast they'd be today
GTE pace, I assume. Ten years of development should equalise the modern cars being weighted down by BoP.

@@X8X8X8X8X8X8X8X8X8X I do believe the GTE was supposed to be a replacement for the GT2 Class, so if anything, the GT1 would probably on roughly the same pace of JGTC GT500 cars (which are almost as fast as non-hybrid LMP1 cars)

Go to a GT3 race. They certainly aren't lacking noise.
@@somebloke2238 they most definitely are. the loudest are the audis and lambos and we could whisper over them while trackside.
Makes me wish I was 10 years older.. in 2011 I was only 8 years old and more into trains than cars... looking back now, I’d give everything to time travel back to this era. The Murcielago R-GT is definitely my favourite of the cars, though.. amazing video!

My favorite was the DBR9.
I am born in 1995 and into trains as well. I started following racing in 2007 - the Vitaphone Maserati MC12 GT1 is the first racecar I can consciously remember. To me, it is THE racecar.
I was born in 2002 and in 2011 I was like 9 years old ,and even I was more into jeeps ! Now I'm feeling guilty!
Dont feel guilty. I love a 1960s GMC crackerbox cabover with a screaming detroit just as much as these
@@Glibzer I think what we like is actually the feeling of the engine working hard. Because I love even the latest euro 6 emissions bus engines over here too. Can't beat the vibrations when it goes on full load.
Corvette is the loudest thing in the track love it 😍😍
everything was loud af, corvettes were even louder in person though, you could feel your whole body shake when they went by, even with the zr1 gt2 cars

Truly a golden era. The Murci's looked and sounded great i always wondered what the successor, an aventador GT1 would look like.😔
Lamborghini has made an Aventador track car this year. Kinda like the Zonda R and FXXK.
Those vettes where literally louder them those V12s
bigger engines by quite a wide margine as well
I'll never forget the confusion and disappointment I felt when I tuned into an "FIA GT1" race in 2012 and saw nothing but GT3 cars.
Don't be hating on GT3s man. We'll miss them when they're gone.

Thanks for sharing this. So glad I went to Zolder every year when the GT1's were there. The sounds are epic but were far more impressive trackside. Never have I ever heard such an aggressive screeching beast as that Lamborghini R-GT, especially when upshifting on the straight between "Rea" and "Jacky Ickx". Combine that with the low growling powerhouse that was the Corvette and mix in those superb MC12's and Aston's, still give me goosebumps.
This brings back memories. Such amazing sounds 😭😭😭

DB9 MC12 and C6R sound fantastic, what a beautiful grid
there has never been, and probably will never be another racing series/class with so much disperity in engine sound, and such good sound across the board

Saw them at Portimão in 2009, absolutely amazing. GT3 is "fine" but GT1 was another dimension.
gt3 is getting more boring to me, especially since they are replacing gte/gt2 in like 2-3 years
@@houseking9211 GT3 it's a great move from a financial perspective with all the manufacturers, teams and thousands of people employed. It's an accessible car for all the AMs with money and without it most GT racing would have died a long time ago. That being said, it's boring and most of the racing is just some guys doing a few laps, the competition it to not break anything.

When GT racing was epic. Though i never understood, how they allowed the MC12 to Race in a Championship that was designed around GT Cars, MC12 wasn't a GT.

There was a road model built to meet homologation rules. It’s the same deal as the Porsche 911 GT1, Mercedes CLK GTR, and the McLaren F1 GT1 cars.

they did end up nerfing the aero though, has a tiny little rear wing
because all you had to do was make a few road cars and they would let you run whatever you wanted. they figured they could get a leg up on other teams with a crazy chassis design and it was completely legal. that doesnt mean it worked but they still tried

The cars were costing nearly as much as an LMP1 back then
GT1's were very expensive, yet they don't look too different from GT3's even though they were much faster. People (including me) Gravitated to GT3 and unfortunately the series started losing viewers and eventually it had to be canceled. So both cost and loss of interest. The cars were incredible though.

Than there was British GT1 that had the Ultima GTR, the Saleen once again and the Stealth B6.
Actually this is exactly why GT1 was so much better than GT3.

No Enrique Bernoldi and Ricardo Zonta were driving it in 2011.

they do. they use VK56DE 5600cc V8
Still pisses me off they made MC12 slower just to keep Enzo at the top
What game is this? The sounds are awesome but the replay cam graphics are a bit low rez, I hope cockpit view is better.

Is GT1 returning to the 24 hours of Le Mans in 2020?
Michael La Falce sort of, it’s lmp1 cars with lmp1 technology but the body would be based off of a production hypercar. Gives a chance for Maserati to build a replacement mc12.
