  • This video shows the full camper transformation build from start to finish of Mini Hillton - our stealth micro camper.
We bought a small van to convert into a micro camper and we documented the full build on this video.
My plan was to keep the original look of the van from the outside, but have the inside as an ultra modern, hi-tech micro camper…and I think I’ve managed to achieve what I wanted from the design that I had in my head.
I’m from a professional engineering background, so I loved all of this project. From the design (trying to fit all essentials and creature comforts), to the manufacture from scratch by my own 2 hands (apart from my Mother and her awesome skills on the sewing machine making my cushion covers).
I’ve managed to utilize every square inch if space to fit in:
    Seating area for 2+ people
Cozy double bed area when in night mode
    Flushing toilet
12v compressor fridge with Bluetooth control
    Leisure battery with split charger
    Mains hookup
    Heater with separate thermostat control
Full control of all adjustable LED lighting with high colour rendition
Air regulation with intake and exhaust fans
    Sound deadened and insulated
Wireless phone and Apple Watch chargers
    Inside and outside temperature gauge
Storage for chairs, clothes, personal items, food and cooking items
We’re so excited to get out there and use this now.

Thank you for taking the time to comment, we really appreciate it.
I was trying to keep a modern minimalist look to it. I saw the Recarco fabric and loved it, I knew it would tie it all together nicely with the greys 👍
It would have given us more room as well if I removed the bulkhead, but I decided to keep it in the end for a couple of reasons. Insulation. And stealth 👍 I insulated the whole inside of it and it’s so warm inside, if I’d have removed the bulkhead a lot of heat would go straight out of the glass and the windows would steam up. And I can have the lights on really bright and not be seen at all…perfect for stealthing 👍

      @awaywiththehills  4 месяца назад +1

Hi Kirsty, thank you for taking the time to comment.
No, they were just some lighting wires before I finished them off, and also a hair dryer and straighteners that I store in there. I have the battery and electrics next to the fridge in the rear.
I'm going to do a walk around video soon , so I'll try to remember to cover it in that.

Hello can I ask about the rubber tiles you used for the Sound deadening ? I see them in Costco but wonder how they are when used in this way .Can you advise if you used on the Sides also

    • @awaywiththehills
      @awaywiththehills  5 месяцев назад +2

Hi Barry, they are closed cell foam tiles that I bought from my local Halfords, I mainly used them to insulate the floor as they’re nice and thick and don’t absorb water. As far as I can tell, they do a great job as the van holds the heat in really well with these and all the other insulation that I used throughout the van.
I didn’t use them on the sides, what you can see on the video is a 10M roll of 10mm foam insulation, where one side is sticky backed and the other side is foil, it was designed to be used for this exact purpose and is great 👍 I got this from eBay.

12:13 , 19:26 минуте видно ржавчина, надеюсь 🤞🏻 её обработали цинком , жалко если будет ржаветь. Машина тёплая👍но спать и находиться в ней было бы мне трудно , окно 🪟 желательно 😅

Hi, these were only rust stains as the previous owner hadn't put any bolts into the roof mounting points after they had a roof rack on it. So there was no need to treat once I put bolts back into the holes to seal from the rain.

Thank you for the positive comment, it's great to hear.
I hadn't done anything like this before, hence why I chose a cheaper van to base the conversion on. But I'm so happy with how it turned out, and I'm definitely going to do another one in the future.
I have an engineering background, so I enjoy projects like this and enjoy the challenges.
The main research I had to was on the insulation. I watch a lot of RUclips videos to learn what to use (and what not to use) as there is a lot of videos of people using the wrong type of insulation on camper conversions.

Hi, I got it from eBay. This was the description:
Silent RV Roof Air Vent Fan for Travel Trailer Van Outlet Ventilation System
I fitted a resistor to the 2 position switch so it gave me a slow and fast speed. it’s fairly quiet and pulls plenty of air.

@awaywiththehills sweet, good insulation AND ventilation, IME ventilation is the only way to control condensation but it's hampered by poor insulation, you now have the perfect combination 👌
