Away With The Hills

Добавлен 21 окт 2022
We’re Ian and Becky Hill, and we love going on adventures.
Why the Lake District is the Perfect Autumn Campervan Destination
We head to the Lake District for the weekend in our micro camper van “Mini Hillton”. After a stealth park up in Keswick, we’re treated to absolutely stunning autumn views as we cross Derwent Water on a boat, and then have a beautiful hike up Catbells.
We then have a bit of a road trip to a campsite called Skyside camping park, with some more amazing views all around. On the final day we had storm Ashley hit us with wind and rain, but this made Aira Force waterfall even more spectacular when we went to see it.
If you like our self built micro campervan, take a look at our other videos where we convert it from scratch, and also do a walk around.

This video shows the full camper transformation build from start to finish of Mini Hillton - our stealth micro camper. We bought a small van to convert into a micro camper and we documented the full build on this video. Love the waterfalls we must visit there one day.
You should! It’s absolutely gorgeous in the Lake District. Especially in the Autumn.

Awesome trip & video. Are you related to a famous footballer by nay chance ?
Thank you for the lovely comment. No I’m not related as far as I’m aware.

Around 16. Scotland has 30000 lochs
Beautiful scenery. I’m up in Scotland, we are spoiled with beautiful scenery. Keep them coming ❤
Thank you. We were up in Scotland earlier in the year, and you’re right…you have some absolutely beautiful scenery up there. We will be back 👍🏔️
New sub! Great video and great van 😊
Thank you so much!
Great vlog guys. My hubby would like to know the make/type of monitor/TV you have in the van and would you recommend? Many thanks in advance 😊
Thank you for the lovely comment. We use a 12.9” iPad Pro in the van. We download a few films before we go away, so it gives us a bit of choice of what to watch when we’re in the back. It suits our needs perfectly, and we can also check our video footage on it as well.
@@awaywiththehills that's great and thanks for getting back to me. We currently do the same with a normal size iPad but it's getting a tad too small for us to watch things at times!! Clearly an age thing! 🙄😅
Very smart guys ❤
Thank you ☺️ And thank you for taking the time to leave us a lovely comment 🙏
It's an incredible build
Thank you so much ☺️ Make sure you check out the build Timelapse video as well 👍
Brilliant job guys.
Thank you ☺️ We really appreciate the positive feedback.
Great van tour guys, lots of useful practical ideas, great to see you starting to add affiliate links/discounts but I think your still missing out by not adding Amazon affiliate links, it doesn't give the viewer a discount but it does give you a 10% commission on anything they buy after clicking your link at no extra cost to them, and makes it easier for them to find the exact product your using. Just my two cents as the yanks say 😉Anyway thumbs up from me, keep up the content and happy adventures 🤗
Thank you for the comment , and thanks for taking the time to leave such a detailed explanation. I’ve not heard of that before from Amazon, so thank you…I’m going to look into it. 👍👍
@@awaywiththehills Just google ' How to create an Amazon affiliate link' then create a list of links for every product/tool you have used on your conversion and add that list to the description of every video you've done so far... I could be wrong but so far as I know it pays commission on anything they buy after clicking that link even if it's a different product... Every little helps as they say 😉
wow that is a very clean and hi tech build, seems like a very comfortable place to roam around in
Thank you for taking the time to leave such a lovely comment. That was exactly what I was trying to achieve. I didn’t want wires hanging everywhere (hence the wireless chargers), I wanted a clean modern look to the inside, whilst still keeping the van looking like a van from the outside.
Ian / Becky Boo I loved this video of all the things you have done to the mini Hilton. Congratulations to you both for reaching 50k. Ian I have to say your talents never fail to impress me and that's saying a lot seeing as I work at the same company you do. Again I want to say this is a great informative interesting video, keep it up.
Thank you so much Neil! I’m glad you enjoyed the walk around, and explanation of the things I have done.
I wanna build similar max Stealth Mini Camper 😅 yours is 99% , only one Thing.. a door to Front. So you can park and go direct in your Apartment 😂 but nearly perfect 🎉 congrats from Germany 🇩🇪
Thank you for taking the time to leave a comment. We wish you all the best with your stealth build. If the van was a little bigger then I would have loved to have put a door into the bulkhead. Maybe on the next van I convert 😉 Germany… wow! it’s great to know how far away our videos get watched👍
Great! Literally! When was this? April, May? Stay strong 🙏🏻
Thank you for your kind positive comment. It was at the end of March (over the Easter weekend).
Mate I'm drooling having seen those burgers. Great photography Ian and of course in a lovely location with the gentle river you captured.
They were very tasty, and I got Becky to try Stilton cheese for the first time on hers, she loved it. We love the Peak District, and there’s so many beautiful places that we’ve not been to yet.
Drum & bass, filled pasta and The Inbetweeners ❤
It’s just the way we roll ☺️🤣🤣🤣
Your build is magnificent, respect
Thank you! 😊 And thank you for taking the time to comment.
Which screen is this and reverse camera?
It’s an Android 6” head unit that a kind friend gave me, and a Cocar AC18 reverse camera from Amazon.
Audio and Video are both professional quality, clarity and colour saturation on the camera look great. Found your channel due to planning on buying and converting a Transit Connect myself. You've done a great job on the conversion, been through most of your vids and liked and subscribed to get you closer to that magic 1k subs. Could I be so bold as to make a suggestion for an upcoming video? Could you do a camper van tour video detailing all the gear you have used and what the total cost of the conversion was etc, You could also add affiliate links in the description and make a few quid from the referrals to Amazon etc, the more items you can link to, the more wonga you could make, I'd be interested to know what infotainment system you used, where you got the roof vent from and where you got that side awning from, the latter two both add to the stealth mode, it could pass for a plumbers van 😉 You also did a great job of detailing the van, not seen the heat gun on the bumpers trick before, again you could add affiliate links to the cleaners polishes and tools you used, every little helps and when you get more subs they will be sending you free gear to sponsor I'm sure... 🤗 in the meantime keep up the great work.
Thank you very much for taking the time to leave such a positive and detailed comment. A walkaround video is a great idea to explain things in more detail, and I had planned on doing one on Saturday just gone, however the leisure battery in Mini Hillton had given up (it was used when I installed it last year), so I upgraded to an AGM battery with slightly higher capacity, and I fitted that along with a couple of other jobs that needed doing. So unfortunately I ran out of time. I do plan on getting this filmed in the next couple of weeks though once I can fit it in around other commitments. Hopefully you can find a nice van to convert, just make sure that it's the long wheelbase/high top version like mine, because when I was looking, this was the only way that I could sit up and lay down in it comfortably with it being such a relatively small van. The stealth style has a lot going for it, and we have parked up in many urban locations that I wouldn't like to be cheeky enough to sleep in an obvious camper.
@@awaywiththehills Yeah it is the L2H2 versions I have been looking at specifically, there was one on gumtree already converted for only 1500 quid but they had in my opinion ruined the stealth aspect by adding a square caravan style skylight/vent, and if buying a pre converted one there is no way of telling how well the insulation has been done. I would go for the newer version connect as I much prefer the styling but they don't seem to do a high roof version, I have noticed that a lot of van lifers who start out with a micro van conversion seem to upgrade to a larger van after about a year so I might just invest more and go for a mid size van such as a transit custom or such like, still small enough to be stealthy but slightly more roomy for playing a large guitar inside when raining outside, my ultimate goal would be to do a coastal tour of UK so would need more food storage space when doing the more remote areas such as Scotland. I'm in no rush and can afford to take my time deciding which base van is the best for my needs.
Certainly see the difference with new Gimbal camera, clarity smoothness much more professional guys. Ian I'd be scared of scratching new camera lens up in those brambles, rather you than me
Thank you for the feedback, I can’t wait to use it on our upcoming videos 👍
Nice upgrade guys. Looking forward to seeing future videos shot with this.
Thank you. I’m looking forward to seeing how much better it performs in low light compared to our current setup.
Where did you get the little roof vent from
I got it from eBay. The listing for the one that I bought has gone now, but there’s the same one still available from different sellers.
13:50 the horn 😂
Good spot! It’s a truck horn that I put on Mini Hillton 🤭🤣
Good to know you guys are still posting vlogs, the scenery is always epic wherever you seem to go
Thank you ☺️ We try to upload as much as we can. We’ve got a lovely Autumn one planned soon, along with some other great locations.
12:36 mad to go all that way then see someone you know.
He was just a kind chap that waited for us ☺️
Beautiful place. Thanks for taking us with you ❤
Thank you Andy, we’re glad you enjoyed it. Who knows where our next adventure will take us.
Hi guys great trip you didn't say how much it was to stay at shell island also the walks looked amazing
Thank you for your kind comment Jeff. We paid £12 per adult per night. Not too bad for such a great location 👍
Looks lovely on Shell Island!
It’s a great site, the scenery is beautiful, and the sand on the dunes is amazing!
Great trip guys, I'm off to Shell Island next month and looking forward to it
Thanks Lee. Have a great time, it’s a beautiful location!
41:38 to skip to end,
That box has more power than Pete Tong. Great bit of kit.
Hahaha…you’re not wrong! Who’s got the power? Allpowers S2000 has got the power! It could even power your DJ gear 👍
Great gadget!!!
It’s great and has got loads of power👍
Driving to my favorite tunes love it
Apple Music played it as one of my suggested tracks, and we loved it straight away 👍👍 haha
Did u change both rear bumper end caps
Yes I did, they weren’t the easiest to try and fit. But with some heat from a hot air gun they softened up and fit like a glove.
I love it 😉👍👏👌
Thank you. We’re glad you enjoyed the video.
Great video, one of our favourite walks down Hatton Locks👍
Thank you for the kind comment Chris, we’ll definitely be back there again!
thanks ı have mikro hilton's (fiat qubo) 😁

Really enjoyed your video, keep them coming ❤
Thank you Andy ☺️ Will do!
Nice bangers 🥰
I live round the corner amazing place
And it was a really beautiful weekend to enjoy it.
Another great video! Love you guys! We love Hatton Locks too!x
Thank you so much for the kind comment Rachel!!
What model roof vent did you use in the build?
Hi, I got it from eBay. This was the description: Silent RV Roof Air Vent Fan for Travel Trailer Van Outlet Ventilation System I fitted a resistor to the 2 position switch so it gave me a slow and fast speed. it’s fairly quiet and pulls plenty of air.
@@awaywiththehills Cool, thanks for letting me know. It looks really low profile, which is great for such a small vehicle.
great little van the mk1 transit connect
It’s spot on 🚐 👍
nice work fella , loved the tunes , plus it looks superb
i love the greys , my fav colour , im a metal cladder so appreciate those colours
im not hating , but i would need a way to go from the back to the cab qwithout going out side , just for safety , but excellent job , proper impressed
Thank you for taking the time to comment, we really appreciate it. I was trying to keep a modern minimalist look to it. I saw the Recarco fabric and loved it, I knew it would tie it all together nicely with the greys 👍 It would have given us more room as well if I removed the bulkhead, but I decided to keep it in the end for a couple of reasons. Insulation. And stealth 👍 I insulated the whole inside of it and it’s so warm inside, if I’d have removed the bulkhead a lot of heat would go straight out of the glass and the windows would steam up. And I can have the lights on really bright and not be seen at all…perfect for stealthing 👍
Fabulous job 👏 Well done 😊 not sure I could do with all the grey & anthracite . Alot of artificial insulation added - think I would look at more natural materials such as Cork etc...
Thank you for the lovely comment Heather ☺️ We love the colours and thought it ties the whole van together, I don’t know if you have anything similar? But I’m sure you would make it lovely and with some nice fabrics that suit you 🫶🏼
Where's the bed
It folds away to under the seats and 2 of the boards go behind the passenger seat. I’m going to do a walk around video soon explaining everything in detail, so keep a look out for that 👍
Good job what size tyres u got on the st wheels
Thank you. During that video they were 235/40 R18 as that's what was on the wheels when I bought them. I've since needed replacement tyres, and I went with the size that originally came on the Focus ST's. These are 225/40 R18 and they were about £15 cheaper each tyre on the Bridgestone one's that I put on.
42:06 looks great. did you store your battery and electrics in the bulkhead?
Hi Kirsty, thank you for taking the time to comment. No, they were just some lighting wires before I finished them off, and also a hair dryer and straighteners that I store in there. I have the battery and electrics next to the fridge in the rear. I'm going to do a walk around video soon , so I'll try to remember to cover it in that.
