Fantastic 'Casino Royale' parody. Simply brilliant and I love the fact that Mitchell re-used the evil overlord character from another sketch. It feels like a running gag. They both look the part too.
further proof mitchell could be the new bond villain it would certainly inject some much needed humour back into the bond series that it is sorely lacking
I have a suspicion that this had nothing to do with the lie Jimmy told about being interviewed for MI5(?) on WILTY. I think the implication is simply that he uses the same guys to help him with his jokes, though it's more fun to imagine it's more than that
@@yesdcotchin Yeah that clip is way older than WILTY. It's just a cheekily poking fun at Carr for his propensity to do really shlocky comedy routines on his constant tours. Mitchell references this a few more times in his work.
-I don't need luck. -You're going to a casino! -Oh God yes that's right! Yeah blimey! Rrrr! Fingers crossed! Best part besides 'wanking', which has been mentioned enough in the comments.
Actually, I retired from supervillainy because they were threatening me with the death penalty. So, retirement seemed like a capital idea. Also, the puns. That's why I'm opposed to capital punishment.
I looked this up to check that you were correct and you totally are. I used to speak French reasonably well but I haven’t spent much time in France for the last 15 years and it’s got pretty rusty. I don’t think I was ever called upon to talk about fruit cake in French but now I shall know what to call it. Merci bien.
French is fun like that. They also use sandwich, but I remember hearing some funny anecdote that some french people didn't like using the loan word and wanted to come up with one. It didn't take, since that's not really how languages evolve.
@@FFKonoko France is unusual in that it has L’Académie Française which is the official guardian of the French language (founded by Cardinal Richelieu no less). It hates loan words and from an official perspective, loan words are frowned upon. However, it’s losing its power. Back in the day when it could dictate to academia what textbooks said about the French language and that was the main source of linguistic learning, it had a degree of control. Now, young French people don’t give a monkey’s what L’Académie Française says. They learn a lot of English words watching RUclips and inevitably use them in everyday speech. In one way it’s a shame but you are absolutely right, that is not how languages evolve and it’s pointless trying to dictate to people what is correct. I’ve been trying to explain to people how to use the subjunctive in English for 40 years. I’ve given up - I have lost that battle, unfortunately. I don’t like it but language is organic and ever changing.
@@joshuarosen6242 -- Keep in mind that after all, a good percentage of modern English descends from the Norman conquest, when those in power spoke French (well, of a kind)! So it's coming full circle now. In Spain there is the Real Academia Española (I don't think that needs translating, am I right?) which also had a more prescriptive approach to language, whereas, if I understand this correctly (I haven't checked it recently), it now favors a more, how shall I put it, "seal-of-approval" function, i.e., once a word or phrase is sufficiently widespread, it makes it into the Royal Dictionary.
ffeff I have only been to Spain three times and my Spanish is very limited (although it’s good enough to know what Real Academia Española means) so I didn’t know that Spain had an equivalent body. Although it’s true that the Normans did indeed leave us with a lot of words of French origin (cheeky blighters), cake isn’t one of them so we’re getting our own back on them in this small way.
Correction. People who happened to be American, made those. When I said sarcastically that your material was fantastic, I was referring to your uploaded videos.
I saw a rip off of this sketch a while back called Casino Royale.
Hahaha. Did you now?
I bet it was amercian
Was that the original or the remake
Was it a fruitcake of a movie?😂
David Niven looked weird with blonde hair in that
"This is your target"
Hands him picture of himself.
Lol good one
"You see, the thing about writing a secret agent movie is the tendency to get bogged down in the so-called "research"..."
I mean we’d just booked a holiday
3 pounds and 4 ounces? That's numberwang!
NivMizzet89 if you can win numberwang, you can guess the name of the cake
“Do you mean... wanking?”
“HE’S GONE ROGUE!!!”
I had a laughter induced brain aneurism at that point
So did I! :)
Fantastic 'Casino Royale' parody. Simply brilliant and I love the fact that Mitchell re-used the evil overlord character from another sketch. It feels like a running gag. They both look the part too.
"Or should I say... Cake you on"
I was not ready for this level of humor
I love the Calippo Organisation Cinematic Universe
"You're worse than his guys."
"They're onto us."
"And Suave, good luck"
"I won't need luck"
"... You're going to a casino"
"Oh god yes that's right yeah blimey urrrr fingers crossed!"
- You're not James Bond Jeremy. You're disgusting.
- I am James Bond.
absolutely brilliant. the bit where the fella wins the teddy and rips off an arm for a tip made me howl.
gofaqyosef Poor teddy bear 🙁
Sir is very generous
I thought Suave's boss would comment on the target's good looks...
That's kind of a cheap joke. Very cliche
further proof mitchell could be the new bond villain it would certainly inject some much needed humour back into the bond series that it is sorely lacking
'Will you kiss my rat-whacker for luck?' I am absolutely creased with laughter!
And his surprised "ewww"
I love it how David is the Evil Genius from the Trapdoor and Misunderstanding sketches.
"I'm quite prepared to take you on....Or should I say, CAKE you on?"
It's the total James Bond expression that makes that joke! XD
"....Eurgh!"
That guys reaction when he loses his watch killed me, what a sketch!
Blonde long-haired David Mitchell appears to have stolen Lucius Malfoy's wig.
I've found my calling in life, one-liner supplier to secret agents/villains!
"Jimmy Carr was never like this" EPIC reference :D
I didn't get that..
Probably the Would I Lie To You episode where he claimed to have been interviewed to be a spy
I have a suspicion that this had nothing to do with the lie Jimmy told about being interviewed for MI5(?) on WILTY. I think the implication is simply that he uses the same guys to help him with his jokes, though it's more fun to imagine it's more than that

when you watch this with good headphones the audience laughter is actually too painful to endure
"....EUUUGHHHH."
Hawk Tuah.
this is exactly what made me retire from supervillainy.
i couldn't take any more bad puns...

@@butcherboy2008
You were opposed to Capital Punishment?
That reminds me of this hit from my favorite band O-Ha:
Cake on me.
My god, I have tinnitus. I knew I listened to way too loud music when I was young.
I was thinking, can no one else hear this??!! I stopped before 2 minutes and now I'm gonna look for a non-tenitus version.
Man, the high-pitched squealing through the whole thing really TIED IT ALL TOGETHER.
Is it just me, or does Robert look especially fetching here?
"DONT YOU MEAN, WANKING!?!?!?"
puts me in hysterics everytime
14 years too late, but it's "do", not "don't". Also, why all caps when he says it at a standard volume?
Sarah Hadland was actually in a Bond film - Quantum of Solace.
Living in Australia, I never got to see this show so the best I can manage is to see clips on RUclips. It's consistently wonderful.
Robert Webb looks fucking brilliant in a tuxedo....
I appreciated the dig at Jimmy Carr
For me the total James Bond moment is when he asks "why me?" :P
That's John Finnemore!!
He wrote for this show, wouldn't be suprised if he had a hand in this sketch.
I was hoping someone else would recognise him!
That's Numberwang!!
Don't smile like that Jeremy, you're not Agent Suave
"1001 Super Spy Quips"
Fun fact #187: The gorgeous rat-whacker licker was in Quantum of Solace as the Ocean Sky receptionist.
Petition to have David play the next Witcher
Didn't notice that the Fruit Cake "Dealer" is John Finnemore
This sketch takes the cake :p
Lol. You are terrible. 😂😂😂
Right at the end, it seems Webb barely can contain his laughter.
Relatively useless translation error trivia:
The French wouldn't refer to an English-style fruitcake as "le gâteau". They call it "Le Cake".

4: 29 and years later sarah hadland was an actual bond girl in quantum of solace
Love how they both work for the same people
Man, that canned laughter was TOO MUCH.
HAHAHA!!!!
"I won't need luck"
"You're going to a casino . . .?"
"Oh god, yes that's right! Blimey. *Burrrr* Fingers crossed!"
lol, they used the part form Would You Lie to Me where Jimmy Carr claims to have had an interview with MI5
Hahahaa that diss on Jimmy Carr
I'm nervous now.
Hmm, i wonder when the ringing in my ears is going to stop
This is hilarious! Never seen it before.
4:05 I love the idea of the 2 of them resolving their differences over a knocking-one-out competition :D
obviously, none of those cakes are heavier than two pounds.
"yes im quite prepared to take you on, or should i say..cake you on" :D
"Whack the rat"
"Don't you mean, wanking?"
LOL I love it
This is just a great sketch. Full of ideas
The only villain Daniel Craig was too afraid to fight.
that rat almost looks fake
These days it would all be done with CGI. Those old practical effects are so much more convincing.
... you mean ... n-n.....
That villain is superb! I hope David Mitchell does more with him.
Estimez le poids du gateau de fruits - fantastic.
I thank RUclips for this
Idky I was recommended this but it’s something 😂
'jimmy carr was never like this' ha. so true!
Oh look, the dealer. It's ... FINNEMOOOOOOOOOOORE!!!
Hah John Finnemore as the uhm... dealer!
I don't think Anne Robinson would really say, 'Do you mean when you're cupping my fishy balls?' xD
Casinos would be awesome.
i love this show!
"thats exactly the type of shit were talking about"
Absolutely brill.
What I love is that none of the weights seem to correspond with the actual size of the cakes
This clip just gave me tinnitus, great sketch though!
I need those guys for when I can't think of a witty comeback
5:14 .... UGH!
this is one of the best!
Then after that agent suave and the evil overlord got a pint together
Interesting choice of units for a french casino.
Agreed, Battson123. He would be a fantastic OTT Bond Villian.
1:40
"thats what they say about me"
"yes I kno.. you both.. its going to be close thats the point."
"..i'm nervous then"
"You made us look like DICKS in there!" xD
Now i want some fruit cake...
You see, the cake they're betting on is actually Yellowcake.
Throughout this entire video all I could hear was 'eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee'
THIS IS SO FUNNY!!!!!!!!
It's like a fairground spoof of casino royale!
Correction. People who happened to be American, made those. When I said sarcastically that your material was fantastic, I was referring to your uploaded videos.
why would a french dealer not use the metric system?
Why would a Frenchman host a game of Guess The Weight Of A Fruitcake?
to the studio audience, @5:00
do NOT go "oooOOOOOOoooooooo"
"Eugh..."
The French sign saying "Éstimez le poids du gâteau de fruits". xD
haha what even was his mission!
...or should I say, cake you on?
Shocking
Hennimore..!!!!!
This had a nice punchline.
I still dont understand what the buggering hell this sketch all is about
John finnemore as the croupier? 3 of the best comedy writers around in the same sketch!
