I did this for 6 months and it transformed my self-confidence.

  • A heart-felt letter to anyone struggling with self-confidence.
    In here I share about the journey I embarked on 6 months ago and how a small change in my daily routine has transformed the confidence I have in myself.
    It all started with this one quote from Mel Robinson. She was on a podcast and said "People don't have self-confidence because they don't trust themselves". I'm so glad I stumbled upon this powerful truth, because this quote was what it took for me to promise myself that I would get to a point where I would not flake on myself and begin to trust myself.
    In the past 6 months I've learned so much about self-confidence, self-esteem, self-assurance and what it truly means to carry yourself in a way that is confident, in a way that is content with who you are and in your journey, and in a way that is filled with inner peace.
    The key to my whole message revolves around the idea that when you believe in yourself, you don't try to convince others.
    When you are content with yourself, you don't need others' approval.
    When you accept yourself, the whole world accepts you.
    About me: I’m Alexandra and I live in Oxfordshire together with my husband and our adorable daughter. My hope is that you’ll find a lot of positivity on this channel.
    About this channel: Sharing from the heart. Sharing how I see the world. On here, I will cover topics such as: creativity, cooking, hobbies, self-care, mental health, mom life, crafty life, fashion, womanhood and, travelling.
    Stick around and let's be friends.

    " its so hard to stick to your own words sometimes because I think as humans we are so used to disappointing ourselves". Oof. Painful but accurate statement. This came at the perfect time. I decided last night to start a 30 days of self confidence journey. Much like you with singing and playing guitar, I lost so much of my confidence in myself with designing clothes. I cared way too much about what people think about me and it took a toll on my mental health. This video makes me feel like I am going on this journey with my best friend. Definitely going to incorporate these tips. Thank you Alexandra! It's also nice to hear your voice too!
    P.s. please make a video of you singing and playing the guitar. The few chords you played sounds so beautiful! 🩷

      Thank you so much for sharing! And from the bottom of my heart, I wish you all the best with your self-confidence journey! I know I feel so different now (in the best way possible) than I did 6 months ago an I wish the same for you and even more. It's wild how people's perception of us can impact us, I hope you find a place within you where what you think of your work is enough! :) Sending lots of love! And funny enough I sang a little bit in the recording but decided to cut it out haha! I will continue to work on my self-confidence around that area and one day I will share something XXX

    Omg this was so lovely to watch. It completely finished my weekend on the right note😊. I was lucky enough to afford a year of therapy in the UK, and my counsellor had me saying 'what if Im not enough'. I realised I truely believed it and had fed my anxiety. So I practised turning up to events going if Im not enough the other person ,Ill be enough for myself. It was hell at first😅 but it got easier and It allowed me to enjoy my life and the people I meet. Thanks for the video Alexandra, Im so happy you took the risk to do it❤❤🎉

    • @AlexandraBurnett
      @AlexandraBurnett  4 месяца назад

      Yes, to ALL OF This! My anxiety fed on "why did I do that, it was so wrong" and my therapist asked me to consider what is acceptable. And now when my mind comes to torment me about an interaction with a person - I say to myself "was that acceptable?" if that person said that to me would I think it's acceptable? And 100% of the cases it's acceptable, so then I say "ok, it's acceptable, let's move on!" - it's so powerful to speak back to our minds and try and re-train our way of thinking! I'm so glad you said to yourself "you're enough for yourself"! I will take this for myself! Sending lots of love XX

      Hi Alexandra, I have spent a lot of time thinking about this vlog. I will say that listening to share your experience in Australia hurt my heart and soul . It hurt to know that you experienced this at all and if I am honest it hurt to know that it took place in my homeland. I hope that you also met people who nourished your soul during your time here. I have learnt that when we depend on or are told that our worth is dependant on the value that others attached to us, and what they think of us, it constrains our opportunities for growth and thus our self confidence. This acceptance (value or our worth) is conditional and I learnt that it had a huge impact on my self confidence. Carl Roger’s idea of unconditional positive regard challenged this. In essence at its core, It is the inherent belief of the capacity of people to grow and develop in a positive direction and sits with the ideas of genuineness empathy and acceptance. We don’t always make great choices or acts in ways that others will agree with but we have worth because we exist and are unique. Your vlog has reminded of of him and while he was a psychologist my practice as a health professional and as partner, parent and friend has been grounded in his ideas. So for me self confidence incorporates all the things you spoke about as well the joy in (re) discovering people and strategies that help us know/remember that we are enough, we have worth, we are unique. You are all of these things. As a favourite radio announcer of mine issued to sy each day when she signed off “go well” (her name is Virginia Trioli). Apologies for the very long comment!

    As a young ballet dancer, I let a Director in a company where I was auditioning tell me, "We like you a lot, but come back to us when you've lost 5 pounds." I let that guy derail my career. I lost all that weight and more. Too much really. Although I later became a ballet teacher, I''ll always feel bad that I let him wreck my dreams. I wish I would have been a bit stronger to just ignore him and move on. This was many years ago and I've since learned all the advice you've given here, but I hope the young people here listen and learn what you have to say! It's important for a happy life.

    • @AlexandraBurnett

      Thank you so much for sharing! It really goes to show that people's words can have such a huge impact on us, if we let them. And like you said, when you're young, sometimes you really don't know any better. I wish I had the guts to go and ask my trainers what they thought of my singing, because deep down I know what they had to say was better than the narrative my mind made up and ran with! I love that you stuck with it and became a ballet teacher! So beautiful! And yes, I think that's one of the reasons I made this video, because I wish I came across this advice many, many years ago. Sending lots of love, thank you for watching and being here! X

    Great wholesome content, I hope to apply some of your suggestions. I already sort of have to-do lists/work lists but they are put on scraps of paper which get jumbled or lost. I am going to start recording these things more intentionally in a journal book like you. Oftenly I feel like I have barely achieved anything so being able to have it in written history will help me to realise that I do infact achieve.
    I will start treating my work as a profession rather than thinking what I do isn't important. Really, I'm wasting the time of the cilents (who are paying me to give them results) just because of my low self worth & confidence.
    Thank you for the videos x

    First of all parents have to bring up their kids being self-confident and feeling loved and ok. If we don't feel like this as an adult it's worth digging in your family history and realize why your parents failed - without judging them.

    • @AlexandraBurnett
      @AlexandraBurnett  4 месяца назад +1

      Whilst I agree that parents play a huge part in shaping their kids' confidence, I feel like your portrayal of self-confidence lacks nuance. To me self-confidence is not something you have or you don't and that's finite. It's not something your parents instil in you and then it stays there forever. Self-confidence, the way I have experienced it, is fluid and it's very much complex. It's something you gain and you lose, something you fight for, something you grow into, something that changes as you change, something that gets chipped away by the world and our experiences, regardless of how much / little confidence your parents encouraged you to have. Thank you so much for watching. x
