  • Welcome back to Chateau de Puy Vidal. In this episode, the wisteria has blossomed at the chateau and we begin to repurpose and reimagine the rooms at the Chateau. After many weeks of deep architectural thought, conversations, ideas and input from various friends and professionals we finally submit our requests to the architects.
Robert witnesses his first pro cycling race in the area and we join our neighbors for the season opening 8 kilometer countryside walk and Penelope gets some big news!
To come and experience Chateau de Puy Vidal in person- book now for our our "Château Life Stays" on our website for this May- August!

again i think your dad has the best option. sacrifice that room to a sitting area. instead of creating a hallway.

Careful that the metal feet of the dining room doesn't damage the wooden floor. Needs protection of some kind.

Yes, I prefer Robert’s option in preference to adding the hallway that impacts the 2 bedrooms. Also in case of fire guests may not be able to use the lift so more straight forward access to the stairs may be preferable.
Love the new layout of the billiard table and new eating area. Also good idea to trial furniture arrangements and seating areas.
Also the new location of Penelope’s apparatus is ideal. Perhaps some solar lights in the trees and around to light up nighttime performances?
Congrats to Penelope on obtaining her work permit and visa! 👏🏻👏🏻🥳🥳🥰

I like your dad's idea to turn that small bedroom by the stairs into a sitting room, that way you don't have to redesign three rooms to make an overly long hallway.

Absolutely brilliant to convert the room in the Toile du Jouy suite with egress to the stairs into a sitting area or accessible common space. The perfectly proportioned king room should be left untouched. Creating long walks into dark, narrow hallways where there aren’t any already seems counter intuitive. The bathroom and kitchenette can be redesigned for better functionality if you really want to maximize the suite. Can’t wait to see what you decide there.

I was overwhelmed by joy that came from knowing this beautiful place is in the right hands when I saw you repurposing spaces until the renovations can be done - the Billiard table to a larger room replaced by little tables at which people can gather.
I also believe your decision to go through 2 more seasons As Is is very wise. The best renovations come when you have lived and worked in a place. Even better ideas will come to mind. You don’t have to be in a rush. She is beautiful as she is.

That is why I will treat myself to a 3 night stay, I have not done anything for myself since 2011 since mum passed after 5 mths in hospital then I looked after dad who had alzhiemers, he passed away last week and his funeral is Saturday. I will go to Chile to visit the family first but will be planning my trip to Europe for April 2024.By then I am sure all the renovations will have done!

I love that you all are taking the time to sit with your decisions over the next season and not rushing into anything. It's so hard to predict how you'll use the space and what feels natural until you've actually been in operation. And even then, I'm sure your plans will adapt as Puy Vidal (hopefully!) finds success and maturity as a business. Congrats to Penelope on the work approval, and hopefully she will be back with you for good very soon! I didn't realize how much I missed seeing her in videos until she and your dad were back, but she truly brings such a positive and creative energy and I loved seeing Julia talk up her tech career accomplishments, haha. But he has his hand with him and his little baby chicks. You could see them around him so he is in control of his family. I don’t want to say Incontrol I want to say that he is happy that they are surrounding him. He has everything around him. That makes him happy. It’s just not familiar territory for him. So much to think about and do! It came to me when someone said there would be no light in the hall if it was created, you could put windows at the top since the ceilings are very high and they would let light through, without anyone able to see in the room. You all work so well together. Your Dad must be in heaven with the bike races. There must be clubs to join for him. Happy for Penelope's visa - that's good news.

I tend to like your dad’s idea with turning the one bedroom into a sitting room with access to the staircase rather than sacrificing the integrity of the historic and beautiful large bedroom. I love watching this channel for so many reasons, many of which are mentioned in other comments, but one that stands out for me is that the chateau is beautiful as is and not undergoing major renovations. Beautiful to look at now, not trying to imagine how it may look someday. I agree with what seems to be the majority that making a sitting room walkthrough is the best, least destructive option for adding egress to the stairs.

I really enjoyed the scenes of the bike race event, and how great that it came right by the chateau! There is a similar race hosted by nature valley held very near to us here in the twin cities (MN) and it's very exciting. I think you will make the best decision as far as hallway vs sitting area, both would be fantastic. Though I'm a little biased toward the sitting area, given the additional function it provides.

All those room decisions. At least you are getting it sorted, between you. It will be great in the long run. Love your chateau. Regards.

Totally agree with pengdubit. Your dad has the best option. It's the most coherent one for the chateau and the cheapest!

Another beautiful episode, thank you. Yes, Pappa's idea is the best solution to the access issue for safety and aesthetics reasons. Please ask Stephanie about René the floor cleaning robot.. it would make that chore so much easier. Much love from South Africa.

I know this is so very very late but welcome home Robert. Its wonderful to see everyone together. Its so sad to see Penelope leave again...but even more excited to know that france said yes and now she can get her visa 🥳🥳🥳 huge congratulations to Penelope. Great news!! ❤❤
Also I think Robert's idea of using the room closest to the main stairwell more appropriate for guests to access the stairwell. It makes more sense especially in a (knock on wood) time of an emergency where guests have to evacuate quickly. Maybe it can be used as a guest lounge or even waiting or resting room or small library. You guys probably already know what you'll be doing but they're just small ideas 😊 i can't wait to see what you guys will do ❤❤❤❤

I do believe in most emergencies guest should not use elevator…the oven &!electric cooktop needs a dedicated line to circuit breaker without other electrical equipment using that circuit

Always a pleasure to watch your vlog.
Converting the room into a sitting area and getting to the stairs through that room is the best option.
Maybe the architect already proposed an alternate layout to move the entire corridor of that wing to the opposite side and have a direct connection with the circular stairs (still keeping a hallway to get to the elevator) With the revised corridor and reconfiguring all the rooms you may get a more efficient use of the space. This may be a long-term solution and related to the budget.

Love how you all carefully analyse the many the options. Personally, your dads idea appears the wisest. It’s better to use that small room for access to the round staircase rather than destroy the elegant proportions of either of the other two bedrooms. Maybe you can reconfigure the bathroom access directly to the Toile bedroom when you upgrade the bathrooms. That way a guest in the Toile room can have privacy when using the bathroom but still have access to the kitchenette/small living room etc through the exisiting door.

What an ideal life. Living with your family in a beautiful chateau. Love the rooms I saw in this episode (and the grounds look beautiful, too). It made me smile when the dog stood up & joined in in the excitement.

Oh my, the cyclists were amazing! Perhaps your Dad will find another cyclist in the area so that he can enjoy his passion with a friend! If you are not in a hurry, perhaps you could ask some of your chateau friends what their ideas are on the hallway. Love your channel, I’d love to see you more often!

Although it seems an interminable process, you are wise to analyze options for architectural work now, then try living with those ideas while you have guests. Your concept of "pain" or "pinch" points is useful. The building definitely does not flow! I agree with others that retaining a portion of the Toile du Jouy suite as a fire escape path is preferable to constructing odd corridors. It would be interesting to find out how the realtor listed the house as possibly 20 bedrooms! (Maybe dividing attics into new bedrooms?)

Dear ladies, nice to hear from you again ! I hope everything is fine 🙂 Just a quick word to say that I am not sure that metallic chairs and tables fit with a wooden floor. The furniture is for outdoors, so it looks a bit strange. But if you want to keep it, you should protect the floor from the metal with rugs, don't you think ?
