  • We are back to normal work after Christmas and New Year, and we are already stuck into the Salon. In this video, we see Carole staring the curtains. She gives us the plan for the fabric and also expresses some of the frustrations that she has to deal with when importing fabric from different countries!
    We also continue to see Adrian tackling the huge job, the salon flooring. This job has been in the works for a little while now, and we can imagine that it will continue for a little while long!
    Meanwhile Carole is keep to start gathering furniture for the Salon, and the couple meet us with good friend Terry from ‪@chateaudelalacelle‬, to go on a hunt for furniture. What went from some gentle browsing, turned quickly into Terry convincing Carole to spend all their money!!

    If you would like to send us anything, please make sure it meets the requirements as a 'gift', otherwise, we have to pay import tax :) thank you!!

  • @rayn8740
    @rayn8740 Год назад +2

    First off, I love both rugs. The larger gold and black one is more noteworthy because we know exactly where it's intended to go.
    The way you've decorated that room so far, makes it a perfect choice. The room will come to life. If there are any acoustical issues in such a large room, they'll be greatly diminished once the carpet, drapes and furniture are in place. I can't wait.
    It does seem a shame to cover the fruits of Adrian's labor. However, it was a forgone conclusion that you would ultimately cover the floor.
    I love Terry and his entire clan. I'm so glad that they're close by, as are the Pethericks.
    I really liked the carving on the chair too. You make excellent choices.

      Yes we are lucky to have great friends on our doorstep

  • @MadonnaPM5
    @MadonnaPM5 Год назад +8

    Great episode! The floor is looking amazing!!! What I always tell clients is that you find your color scheme first, then buy fabrics with at least 3 scales of prints ( large, medium and small) or in some cases extra large, medium and small with some textured fabrics in there to brake up all the pattern. With all the damask you're using, try some striped fabrics as well. Floral and stripe always works together too. It's nice to have a contrasting color in there, unless you're wanting a monochromatic color scheme and wish to stay with all shade of golds/yellows? Black and white are not colors and can be used regardless. With gold the complimentary color is purple ( I mean a royal purple with your gold) That's a scheme that always works or you can go for a split complimentary contrast of greens or reds, but purple is often the most elegant contrast. Blue works well too but all colors will need to have at least one fabric to match the saturation/intensity of the gold in your draperies and then lighter tones will be another level of compliments. The most important part is the color scheme because it's going to play out on all of your upholstered pieces and tell the story of what makes you guys happy, what you like to live with!! Then pick out your frames after you've made your space plan with the desired furniture arrangement for the room. The grand salon is so large you can break it up into several seating areas. Once you know how many sofas, lounge chairs, occasional chairs and ottomans etc., then you can find out which of your fabric selections will look best on each of your frames. Not to say this is the Only way to go, but it makes for the easiest to navigate , especially if you are looking to add to your plan for the furniture arrangement in the future with smaller pieces and accessories. This is the fun part Carole!! Enjoy!! All the best in this stage of your project!!🤩

      Excellent suggestions Peter, I couldn't agree more.
      When they first panned to the rug, I gasped. It's perfect for the room Carole has created. It seems a shame to cover so much of the floor Adrian has labored over, and most likely the most interesting parts. Quel dommage!🤷‍♂️

    Hi Carole & Adrian, It's great to see you meet up with Terry on a shopping trip. Terry shops like I do, "Buy it when you see something you think you can use eventually." It worked for me for the last 45+ years collecting and dealing with Antiques. I like that you were able to find and coordinate all the trim, fabric, and rug for the Salon. Now just a lot more pieces of furniture and it will all come together. Mark

    I think shopping with Terry has to be a lot of laughs and good fun. Carole, you can tell Adrian how many thousands of Euro’s you’re saving by sewing the curtains yourself. If you had to pay someone to do what you are doing it would cost a fortune, so that justifies spending more on the furnishings! Adrian the jigsaw puzzle of floors are going to be your masterpiece. I hope the carpet won’t cover too much of it. I can’t wait to see it all pulled together. xx

    I would suggest instead of gold thread on the curtain trim to use gold cords. The reason for this suggestion is, gold thread is a real pain to work with and wouldn't show very much. Gold cord would show better and be an extra dimension to the trim. Especially if it were set maybe 5 mm away from the actual trim on the edge.

    Terry is an absolute credit to encouraging Carole to purchase that lovely gold rug for the Chateau! It is gorgeous and matches perfectly with the gold Parlour she is currently working on. The parlour would not be complete without Adrian's never-ending hard work on the parkay floor. It will look phenomenal when finished! What a great surprise on the fringe! Matches perfectly with the solid gold drapery. The other drapery fabric is nice, too. Your new gold chair will likely find a permanent place in that room likewise, since it matches so well with the solid gold drapes and the gold flake trim. I love Carole's idea for her vanity mirror! A massive mirror in a huge room... how could you go wrong?

    it's a lovely fringe but....I'm of the opinion that if I'm going to spend so much time sewing...I want it prominent! IOWS...gussy!

    Can’t wait to see what Carol and Terry come up with in the end. It seems to me there is a way to get the mark out of the material on the chair.

    That floor would drive me crazy. Adrian is obviously a madman. It will be gorgeous when he's done though. I love the rug that Terry helped pick out. Y'all we're having a great time. Nice to see all the smiles, even if Adrian's wallet suffered 😉

    The draperies will be Grand like the Grand Salon. The Salon floor gives me a headache just thinking about it. That is one tough project. There needs to be a historical plaque attached to the chateau describing restoration work done by you guys with the start and finish dates listed. Please do go shopping with Terry more. It is fun to see the three of you together. I love the rug. I love everything you purchased. I love everything you considered. Thanks so very much!!!!!!

    With all of the lovely draperies being made, how about a faceted amber glass/crystal bead, sewn to the gimp edge of the trim, in the center of each round? The additional shimmer might add to the elegance.
    As always, fantastic work!! Thank you for sharing.

      I actually did think of that!

    What a blessing to have another Chateau owner helping you . Terry and you have a wonderful eye.
    It would be cool to pick a undone room in your chateau and one in his and you collaborate and film the design process the shopping and the work and the fun .

    Lining fabrics in US come in multiple widths. I've bought the 120 inch many times. It's a dream to work with. Best wishes with the curtain project.

    Our Emmaus has amazing rugs. I have one handmade wool and silk one from Pakistan that is 12m2 and cost me 20 euros, took two people to lift it! I received a quote of 1000 euros to clean it so I bought a semi pro machine from Germany and in the end the rug had been washed already. I bought so many huge rugs that I just gave way three to another chateau. I must have bought about 12 rugs from that Emmaus so far in different sizes. My best rugs I found when living near Paris, they were thrown out with the cleaning labels still on them ! Good deals to be had in France. Just bought a huge oak double wardrobe unit with chest of drawers attached in between, marble top and mirrors for 50 euros, incredible amount of storage.
