Dion had another great hit called the " Wanderer". He sings about a guy who goes around from girl to girl! Just like run around Sue who went around from guy to guy.
Dion is one of the biggest rock stars of the 50’s 60’s and 70’s. Hard to believe he’s in his 80’s now. Another great song and there are many is “The Wanderer”. Teenager In Love, Abraham, Martin and John. Great songs. Thx
The Wanderer by Dion should have been first on your list. Other cool songs from this era include: Dream Lover by Bobby Darin Why Do Fools Fall In Love by Frankie Lymon and The Teenagers Loop De Loop Mambo by The Coasters I Can't Help Myself (Sugar Pie, Honey Bunch) by Four Tops My Girl by The Temptations Under The Boardwalk by The Drifters Just A Dream by Jimmy Clanton and Shout, Pts 1 & 2 by The Isley Brothers
The two other Dion DiMucci songs you need to do are "The Wanderer," which tells the story of a guy who runs around on his girl (kinda like a companion to this one) and "Abraham, Martin, and John" which is a very emotional song about the turmoil of the 1960s.
I wasn't born until the early 70s but I love this type music.. when singers could really sing and you could understand what they were saying and didn't have to wonder if they were using auto tune or not.
I have to agree the Wanderer is a must! Teenager in Love, Dion even recorded a Bruce Springsteen song If I Should Fall Behind, did it Doo Wop style, pretty cool
Gotta love Doo Wop. I got to see the Persuasions at 1st Avenue in the mid 1980's. At the time the group had already been around at least 25 years. Within one song they had the audience in the palm of their hand. it was amazing.
This was a song that was really popular on American Bandstand and as young as I was, really enjoyed watching the young people of that generation dance to this rock n roll of the 60's :)
Dion's, Abraham, Martin and John. As for genre.... it came from New York, Brooklyn andcQueens, and the guys would hang out on the front steps and doo-wop sing. Great stuff.
Oh man, you should’ve done “The Wanderer” first. That’s OK. Dion has some great stuff. - Life is But A Dream - Little Diane - The Majestic - Teenager in Love - Dream Lover - (I Was) Born To Cry
A little known story about Dion is that he was almost on the plane that killed Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens, and the Big Bopper in 1959. (Buddy Holly is a great rabbit hole to go down. Start with Peggy Sue.) But Dion didn't want to pay $36 because that was the same amount his father paid for rent. So he didn't get on the plane and the rest is history. Songs from that time period were between 2 and 3 minutes.
This style of music was called doo-wop. It started in the late 50's and lasted into the early 60's. You should listen to his later song called Abraham, Martin and John. It was written after the assassinations of Martin Luther King, Jr. and John F. Kennedy.
Please check out Tommy James and The Shondells... Hanky Panky...Sweet Cherry Wine...Crystal Blue Persuasion...Draggin The Line...Mirage... Crimson and Clover if u like this kind of music u will love this group
Dion was the absolute king of doo-wop. So many hits. Teenager and love, Donna the prima donna, The wanderer, you definitely need to check this guy out if you like this song.
It can be fun watching you attempt to pick a genre, as there are some older versions that no longer really exist anymore or have changed so dramatically with each passing decade, you wouldn't think to compare to today, like teen idol pop. This is also what is so great about seeing younger folks discovering a new style and us enjoying a good sing along. Love going through this journey with you.
Dion’s song ABRAHAM, MARTIN AND JOHN is a gorgeous song he wrote as a tribute to Abraham Lincoln, Martin Luther King Jr, President JFK and his brother Bobby Kennedy... each assassinated
Dion didn't write "Abrahm, Martin and John". It was written by Dick Holler ("Snoopy vs. the Red Baron") after the assassinations of MLK and RFK in 1968. He chose Dion to sing it after Dion coming back from a heroin addiction. But it is a great tune and worthy of a listen.
Steve Cabrera I got to see Dion perform it in 1991 in San Francisco. He performed it with Dave Edmunds and Graham Parker with a single spotlight on each as they took turns.
"Man of Constant Sorrow" By The Acapella Group Home Free The Bass will amaze you and the Beat Boxer is awesome. The only instrument is their voice. Truly amazing. and the Boyz to Men cover of "End of the Road" will knock your socks OFF!
Dion was a big part of the Philadelphia wall of sound. It's called doo wop music. Yes, it used to blare from every juke box in every bar. He recorded Runaround Sue with The Del-Satins and black musicians from the Apollo theater. Buddy Lucas on Sax, Sticks Evans on drums, Panama Francis on percussion, Teacho Wilshire on piano, Milt Hinton on bass, and Mickey “Guitar” Baker.
LOVE LOVE LOVE your ROCKIN' to Dino and his RUNAROUND SUE!! JUST like WE TEENS did back in 1961 when this was released, I was 14 years old then and in 8th grade. This was a GREAT DANCE song. Play his song "THE WANDERER", it's like Sue but THIS time it's a GUY who gets around!
I've requested a couple songs that goes back to the 60's one is by Major Lance "Rhythm" and the other is by The Dells "Stand in my corner". Goes back to the earlier Motown era
It's fun to start at the 50s and see how the styles change thru the decades from the basics of rock n roll. The down side is the joy and innocence starts to decline till you get to the narcissistic occult inspired stuff of today, it's sad. That's why it's fun to stay trapped in past decades of music.
Dion DiMucci was on the Buddy Holly winter tour that fateful February in 1959 but he declined to fly. He’s been married to Susan since 1963, he continues to make music, his last album was in 2020! I think the guy is pretty amazing! ❤️
Love those old Jukeboxes and making sure to have lots of loose change when you went to the soda shop for a milkshake or soda and hang with the other 'kids' :) Makes me thinking young again.
Doo wop is fun. They used to have this incredible restaurant in Cleveland - the flats - that at night time all the fun dances for this stuff would start. Was called shorty's. Loved it
Dion the best of doowop singers. Song came out in 1961. Listen to another great song from Bobby Darin called mack the knife. Another great song and great singer.
There are many great artists and songs from this era worth a go - Del Shannon - Runaway: Jimmy Jones - Handyman: Bobby Vee - The Night has A Thousand Eyes: Bobby Vinton - Blue Velvet: Timi Yuro - Hurt: Helen Shapiro - You Don't Know. Just a few suggestions but they'll be many more from others I'm sure.
Are you talking about a jukebox? ...I'm in my 60's & it always tickles me when young people listen to music from my youth & like it. That was some good stuff, my friend; if you hear that & dont jump up to dance, you have no pulse!!
If you want to hear Real NYC Style Doo Wop, tear Jerking Group Harmony Doo Wop please do a reaction to "I've got a Feeling" by the Time-tones. A tear jerker with a distinct Base, Tenor , harmony and a great lead who sings with such feeling. You have to be a real Doo Wop lover to know the song but I Guarantee you will love it!
A lot of requests for his biggest song, the Wanderer. But I think his best song, and most truly doo wop, is called 'I Wonder Why'. It'll really get peoples' bones up and rattling around!
Check out a great UK doo-wop revival band from the late 1970's called 'Darts'. They had a ton of hits around Europe & the far East, & even their album track 'fillers' were great listening! The boy from New York City, Come back my love, It's Raining, Daddy Cool, & I'm dreaming of a white Christmas were some of their best singles, but also lesser known songs like My friend's wife, Too hot in the kitchen, Messing shoes blues, Why I cry, are great fun, & show off the unusual variety of voices on offer. They were the only band I know with FOUR lead singers, & some of the best harmonies in the business!
Dion had another great hit called the " Wanderer". He sings about a guy who goes around from girl to girl! Just like run around Sue who went around from guy to guy.
Totally agree, the wanderer is a great song, Rag Doll is another great one. This era of music is so hard to sit still while listening.
i am 71 wow brings back old times i was a teen back in this day thank you
50's and 60's rock n roll. The machine in the diner is a Jukebox.
Better to see him too. ruclips.net/video/4jcCwmtVAIM/видео.html
Also Doo-wop
all my old aunties always get up and dance to this song at every family party. always makes me smile!
It’s impossible to not enjoy “runaround sue”. The lyrics are relatable and the vocals are excellent, just a great catchy pop song that never gets old.
Grew up with this music...can't beat it...
Some contemporary music, try Del Shannon "Runaway".
An under appreciated classic is Link Wray's "Rumble". Origin of the power chord.
Great songwriter
Dion is one of the biggest rock stars of the 50’s 60’s and 70’s. Hard to believe he’s in his 80’s now. Another great song and there are many is “The Wanderer”. Teenager In Love, Abraham, Martin and John. Great songs. Thx
That takes me back. It came out in September of 1961. I was eleven. Fun song! Easy to dance to, usually swing, and later the twist. This is early pop.
1962....I was 5.....thanks for wonderful memories....have danced to this all my life :)
You had to be able to sing back in the day. The jukebox was a staple in diner's.
Doo wop is the style it was 50's and early 60's
The Wanderer by Dion should have been first on your list. Other cool songs from this era include:
Dream Lover by Bobby Darin
Why Do Fools Fall In Love by Frankie Lymon and The Teenagers

My Girl by The Temptations
Under The Boardwalk by The Drifters
Just A Dream by Jimmy Clanton
and
Shout, Pts 1 & 2 by The Isley Brothers
Dion is one of my favorite vocalists. His voice is instantly recognizable.
The two other Dion DiMucci songs you need to do are "The Wanderer," which tells the story of a guy who runs around on his girl (kinda like a companion to this one) and "Abraham, Martin, and John" which is a very emotional song about the turmoil of the 1960s.
yes.
Yep, Doo Wop, sock hop music from the 50s and early 60s music.
RIGHT
A lot of great music came from that era and A lot of later music has roots from it.
I wasn't born until the early 70s but I love this type music.. when singers could really sing and you could understand what they were saying and didn't have to wonder if they were using auto tune or not.
I LOVE watching people listening to this genre for the first time. This song is before my time but I love it so much. Thanks for a great reaction ♥️
I have to agree the Wanderer is a must!
Teenager in Love, Dion even recorded a Bruce Springsteen song If I Should Fall Behind, did it Doo Wop style, pretty cool
"Teenager In Love" great song he did back with The Belmonts!
My favorite Dion & the Belmonts song was I Wonder Why. It's one of the greatest Doo Wop songs.
Gotta love Doo Wop. I got to see the Persuasions at 1st Avenue in the mid 1980's. At the time the group had already been around at least 25 years. Within one song they had the audience in the palm of their hand. it was amazing.

@@bobthechimp5431 - Correct!
Brett G I checked out the cover today, it’s awesome mate

This is classic 50's sock hop and doo wop music played on a Juke Box. (God I feel so old right now)
Doo wop was great music. Fun to dance to. I grew up on this and I still love it.
Doo Wop, Rock, pop, R&B and blues. Abraham, Martin and John
(1968) is one of my favorite.
One of my all time favorites.

Please check out Tommy James and The Shondells... Hanky Panky...Sweet Cherry Wine...Crystal Blue Persuasion...Draggin The Line...Mirage... Crimson and Clover if u like this kind of music u will love this group
Yes.
The 50's was the birth of Rock n Roll. Most songs in the golden age of Rock n Roll where only 2 to 2.5 mins. Many classics to explore enjoy them all.
Check out Frankie Lymon and the Teenagers, especially "Teenager in Love" and "I am Not a Juvenile Delinquent"
Dion was the absolute king of doo-wop. So many hits. Teenager and love, Donna the prima donna, The wanderer, you definitely need to check this guy out if you like this song.

I smile now as it was taken for granted then ... the Jukebox! What memories! Thanks.

Steve Cabrera Wow... I never knew that! What’s more amazing is that the man who wrote it was the same guy who wrote the Red Baron song haha
Steve Cabrera I got to see Dion perform it in 1991 in San Francisco. He performed it with Dave Edmunds and Graham Parker with a single spotlight on each as they took turns.
@@Jonni1027 What a great show that must have been. Edmunds was great but Graham Parker and Dion are beyond mere mortals.
Steve Cabrera... True! Yes it was one of my very favorite concerts ever, and growing up near San Francisco I got to see billions of great shows 😃.
"Hey hey humda hayda hayda. Hey hey humda hayda hayda. Hey hey humda hayda hayda hey hey!" LOVE that part!!
My favorite ❤by Dion and the Belmonts

I love how open minded you are. This is my Mom’s and Aunts music.
I would love to see Dion in concert...
Four Tops: Walk Away Renee and If I Were a Carpenter
The four tops are amazing!
I love the Four Tops cover of "Walk away Renee". They really took that song to another level when they covered it.
Dion DiMucci was on the Buddy Holly winter tour that fateful February in 1959 but he declined to fly. He’s been married to Susan since 1963, he continues to make music, his last album was in 2020! I think the guy is pretty amazing! ❤️
Cracked me up when you weren't sure what type of music this was. When this was released in 1961, we called this type of music Rock &Roll.
In the 80’s we were really into “Oldies”. The Wonderer was on rotation for sure.
Love those old Jukeboxes and making sure to have lots of loose change when you went to the soda shop for a milkshake or soda and hang with the other 'kids' :) Makes me thinking young again.
That's a jukebox and this was the early 60s. My favorite Dion song of all time!
These songs are called oldies .... CLASSICS!
Here's another one where your going back a ways in music. I like 5 of Dion's songs
Dion is great. And even better, he's still around! How about a song from way later in his career, like "King of the New York Streets"?
Abraham, Martin and John!
Dion's counterpart hit to this song was the "Wanderer" in which HE is the player.
Late 1950s/early 1960s Rock & Roll with a touch of doo-wop harmonizing (the non-sensical backing vocals)
Jukebox on the tables.loved them!!!
Doo wop is fun. They used to have this incredible restaurant in Cleveland - the flats - that at night time all the fun dances for this stuff would start. Was called shorty's. Loved it
One of my favorite songs ever! They were brilliant with tone !
Dion the best of doowop singers. Song came out in 1961. Listen to another great song from Bobby Darin called mack the knife. Another great song and great singer.
Bobby Keyes on Sax, who later played sax for the Rolling Stones and many other heavyweights. Dion - Lover's Who Wander.
Excellent man! Dion’s The Wanderer for sure!
Great reaction!

A suggestion: "Blue Moon", by The Marcels.
I love Blue Moon!!!
love dion.
Same era - Teen Angel by Mark Dinning - still can't hear this song without tearing up

Omg dude! Lol they're called jukeboxes. I can remember listening to one at this pizza joint my fam frequented as late as 1999 when I was loke 14
It`s Rock n roll pure good rock
I loved this song when I was a kid. Another one I remember from those years is “Sheila”.
Dion bad ass singer 😎
It's rock and roll baby.
Your reactions are priceless
Dion was FUN.
The golden oldies.
Like they said below.... called Do-Wop music..... so many artists to listen to in that genre..
Dion and the Belmonts, classic 50’s sound.
great old classic song
I love your reactions they are super entertaining!
Check out The Wanderer by Dion
Yes Dion was a Dream Boat back in the day, the 50's juke box. Pretty pretty please listen to Dion " The Wanderer" I know your gonna dig it.
Dions voice is the equivalent of a saxophone.
It's rock and roll baby
Great reaction! You would have been a blast at high school sock-hops!
Another excellent song from the pre-British Invasion era is "Runaway" by Del Shannon. Fair warning, it is about the same length as "Runaround Sue."
Juke Box! Nice reaction!!
Check out some Supremes, Jay and the Americans n Four Tops
Wonderful!!!
The Flamingos ' I Only Have Eyes For You'....or Little Anthony & the Imperials 'Hurts So Bad'
The machine you refer to is a juke box. Now if your really old, there where small jukes in the booth at the diner, for your listing pleasure 🇨🇦😀
It's classic 50s/60s 'Doo-Wop' which is technically a sub-genre of 'Rock n Roll' (Rock music). This came out in 1962.
A lot of requests for his biggest song, the Wanderer. But I think his best song, and most truly doo wop, is called 'I Wonder Why'. It'll really get peoples' bones up and rattling around!
