Matt D'Avella what are your preferred shirts and shorts?
All I wanna know is, where’d you get those sweat pants?
Matt D'Avella u have 6 siblings? Ugh,i thought 5 was bad. Thankyou for this, i pack 3 dresses,5 undies,2 bras, 1 swimsuit,4 leotard bike shorts, in a crappy thriftstore bag w/2 wheels. It works 4 me😄😃😁😀
250 euro backpack. Jesus Christ. Definitely going in the bucket list tho
Patiently waiting for your workout plan lol
As a true minimalist, I travel with 1 clear, multi-purpose sandwich bag.
Sean Edwards that’s waaaay too much excess for a true minimalist ;)
I do better, I travel with *ALL* the holes in my body.
Hahaha
I just died of laughter
As a TRUER minimalist, I pack nothing. Not even myself
Again Matt, you prove your point. Netflix quality on RUclips...
:)
@Wambui Kibira Thanks for that. :)
best comment!
As a true minimalist I don’t pack anything and go everywhere naked, I absorb nutrients from the sun
Clever, very clever and good thinking. And perfect synergy. Being naked is kinda mandatory for absorbing nutrients from the sun.
Are you a level 4 vegan?
😂😂😂
As a true minimalist I fly a drone that comes with a built in camera and has my face displayed in order to communicate with the humans outside
I hope you bring a towel to place on the seat. Remember cleanliness is next to godliness.
Viewers : MATT...you got TWO bags?! I think that’s not very minimalist.
Matt : IT DOESN’T MATTER WHAT YOU THINK
Yeah coz these idiot "true minimalists" are not film makers. You cant fit camera gear and clothes etc in one bag.
Mark Bersabal yup. Camera gear is too big and heavy for that!
@@markymarkb Well... you know... he could be like... you know having one t-shirt and pants, one pair of underwear is definitely enough, he can always walk without wearing any... :P:P
You can take your opinion and stick it straight up your candy ass!!!!
I love that Matt proves that minimalism doesn't mean to have the least stuff or the cheapest stuff. He saves where he can and invests in good quality equipment and stuff.
that's not a minimalism lifestyle. it's like claiming being vegan but wearing a leather belt and eating steak "because it works for you"
@@martinklein1139
I think you are mixing up minimalism with being traditionally christian (like only spending on the essential things and donating the rest)...
@@martinklein1139 minimalism (according to Merriam-Webster)--"a style or technique that is characterized by extreme spareness and simplicity"
Vegan (according to Merriam-Webster)--"one who abstains from using animal products"
Simplicity is subjective, abstinence from a product is not. It was a bit of an apples to oranges comparison
@@dianahenne8736 traveling with two bags full of stuff is not extreme spareness or extreme simplicity tbh. Btw I don't mind if he's not a minimalist but he's selfpromoting himself as someone which is wrong. It gives people a wrong sense of minimalism because it doesn't mean being minimalistic at things which are easy to comply with and to choose where you want to be a minimalist and where not. Still it's probably not bad to apply a minimalistic lifestyle where it's possible
@@martinklein1139 honestly, it doesn't matter what we or anyone thinks. Being minimalist is about finding happiness in less things. It's not a contest of who has the least amount of stuff.
5:20 'I don't know where I'm going' just made my day.
Haha! Same here.
I laughed hard with that line as well. HAHAHA
Haha yes 😂
Sounds like you've got a pretty ambitious day ahead ;)
You just showed me a pocket I didn't realize my backpack had😂 Thank you
Let my guess... the one he used for his keys😅
Hey, Matt. I suffer from anxiety and depression. I tend to “forget” about hygiene and keeping my place clean, and clutter-free. Watching your movie Minimalism on Netflix honestly changed my life...for the better. I’ve begun to start decluttering and getting rid of clothes/things/etc. that I don’t need and man has it made my life easier. I watch your videos quite often, and the one with Gary Vee completely opened my eyes. Just wanted to say thank you from the bottom of my heart, bro because even tho we don’t know each other, you’ve helped changed and improve my life. Thank you.
Hey, good job! I know it's a year later, but I'm still glad to hear that you're doing better!
Matt : *wakes up at 5 am*
Matt : *calls him self lazy **5:12*
God, I hope he planned that...
Yeah😂
You know you really LOVE coffee when you gotta pack your own coffee machine for holidays
Why are you here? Hahaha
Lol fancy seeing you here
I travelled once with a friend who actually brought his own nespresso machine with tons of capsules to a one week trip.

"it is good for lazy people, like me"
*leaves the camera at random places just to shoot a good scene*
*no mess in his house*
*wakes up at 5am for a month*
You truly deserved more likes with that 😂
Things I've learn about Matt in this video:
- He carries around an epi-pen due to chronic urticaria
- He has 6 (!!) siblings
- He looks banging in that beanie
Great video as always!
I don't carry an epi-pen with me at all times but definitely when I'm flying. The symptoms have gone down significantly. I used to have to take 2 antihistamines daily but now just one every other day.
@@serdarguler1455 Seriously man is that really necessary? Please think before you post an insensitive comment like that...
SerdarCreates yeah dude, don’t ruin anything
he does not wear socks when traveling?
I honestly believed that was called happy pen.
Thanks for writing that down.

"My glasses. I need these to see." 😂
Love your sense of humor ❤ great video as always 👌
My main strategy is to pack ahead of time. I've found packing last minute leads to pressured I-might-need-it thinking which makes me bring too much, so I strive to pack at least the day before. Another strategy is to place all the clothes I think I need to bring on the bed, review and review, switch out things so I can opt to create a few outfits from a minimum number of pieces, and bring only the results. Great video, Matt, and very helpful.
Thanks Matt I find your stuff entertaining, with what I do for a living I travel ALOT and unfortunately many times must carry sharp implements which obviously creates its own challenges however I can go about as small in luggage as you have here for 2-3 weeks overseas so I feel good about that, thanks man, Rock On!
Ive always wanted to know how to pack the essential stuff. I swear your videos just keep getting better and better lol
I mean you just pack things you need? I never carried more then backpack when traveling and not more then one backpack and bag when going somewhere further. I can say my backpack is my 2nd home kind of.
Finch im trying the minimalist thing too. I just always feel like i need something then i never do. Matt inspired me to do it. So im making youtube videos.
@@KellyJavier Good job I guess, I am just saying pack essentials stuff, don't over pack. And by essentials I mean daily use stuff, no need for 10 shirts you wont wear or similar.
The day I need another adult to teach me how to pack for travel I’ll blow the back of my head off.
KellyJ you miss my point knuckle head, I don’t need another adult to tell me how to pack. Therefore my head stays in the condition it is in.
I have travelled quite a bit for work the past 2 years, what it taught me is how little stuff is need in general. I'm able to travel for a week with carry on after much experimentation. What I love is that I've slowly been able to get rid of unnecessary clothes taking up space at home. Makes packing simple when you have a smaller amount of clothes to choose from overall. Keep up the great vids Matt, you're smashing it.
Something I started traveling with that I’ve loved has been switching out my liquid toiletries with solid ones- such as a small bar of shampoo, bar conditioner, and one body/face soap bar. I find it lasts longer than the liquid I can take with me and I typically always have plenty left over for the next trip. I also don’t have to take it out of the bag for security check because they aren’t liquids. Saves some time during security check through.
5:19 "I don't know where I'm going... I'm..." 🤣🤣🤣
Another bag!? you have committed the highest of all the minimalism sins my friend..
The opening 90 seconds are so tight, well written and get to the point of the video really well with no fluff. Good writting skills.
They don't call me "no fluff matt" for nothing.
@@mattdavella youre so likable i swear
I love traveling with only carry-on sized luggage + a backpack, and of course doing laundry while on the trip! I do my short trips this way, as well as trips as long as 6 weeks abroad. Works really well for me and I still get lots of variety in the way I dress.
I can't believe people judge others for being "more or less minimalist than them" - you want to take two bags? GO FOR IT :) love this video!

You're amazing! The way you packed your stuffs, clearly shows, how well disciplined you are! Always learn so many things from your videos! Stay Blessed Sir! Love from India!
While I'm not a minimalist, I try to get as close as I can. Packing for travel has become a very enjoyable experience for me :) I remember when I was a kid, my parents would always tell me to get stuff "just in case"... and we ended up carrying around huge, heavy luggages for a 10 days trip. And I MAYBE used 40% of what I brought. 30 years later, I'm happy to bring ONLY what I use, and a carry-on luggage + a backpack is all I need too! It feels SO good :D Light on the shoulders, light in the mind. Cheers!
I was so excited when I saw you posted a video! Thank you for being such a motivation to me in this tough time in my life🤗
Your backpack is the most innovative and useful backpack I've seen!! Love the secret compartments and how it can be assessed from multiple sides!😆
I love your packing videos, gave me great tips when traveling. I now basically can get all I need in one backpack. Thanks Matt!
“My glasses. I need those to see.”
bro we're traveling in a few days, perfect timing!
Enjoy the trip!
As a true minimalist, I'm using mushroom in the wild to 'travel'
Just want to say, I asbolutely love your videos Matt.
I already lived my life just like yours before I started watching your videos but it's encouraging and reassuring to see someone else who is successful doing the same.
Quality video Matt! I use travel cubes for packing, and also I bring my trusty travel coffee mug to minimise usage of plastic/paper cups.
I pack my toiletries in a clear bag and in my carry bag/purse so I don't have to dig for it for the TSA security screens. Great video!
THIS is the perfect backpack! YES! So smart. How do you find these inventive pieces?
EDIT: 250 dollars? Ouch...

Watching the documentary a while ago made me chose a minimalist lifestyle. Since then I’ve travelled lighter and lighter, with just a hand-luggage sized backpack for almost half a year recently. This has made me see there’s only that little that’s really essential in life. Choosing for an intentional life made it so much lighter. Thank Matt, for sharing, inspiring and being! This made, and still makes, all the difference.
I've been following your youtube channel grow ages now and love watching your vids, keep up the great work man ! Glad to see you grow so fast =]

@@ishachoudhury7719 I feel sad for you.
I'm just leaving for a 49 day long trip to South-Korea and Japan and my luggage setup look pretty similar to yours. One Carry-on roller bag and a medium size camera bag. I hope this setup is good because I have done some packing mistakes on past trips.
Random person here, but don't skip Jeju at this time of year. Its great! You might not know that you can also take a Busan to Fukuoka ferry.
If you're gonna be in the city, you can get a cheap mask at any pharmacy but you might want to buy a higher quality one before you go. Its yellow dust season.
Oh and don't miss the Korean east coast!
Is it weird that I find this oddly satisfying? Like I love Marie Kondo folding and organizing things into small spaces, so this is just makes me really happy
I'm not a minimalist by any stretch of the imagination but I did learn a lot (from youtube) about minimizing when I traveled halfway around the world last year. I traveled for 3 months with only a carry-on bag (an Osprey backpack) and a big purse. I had about a week's worth of clothes that were mix-and-match items to make it look like I had more clothes. After a couple of weeks I was getting tired of my clothes but after the first month I was like, yeah, I kinda like not having to worry about if my clothes look good - I already know they do whichever one I happen to pull out of the backpack that day.
I love what you said here about - "I don't care what you think, this is what works for me". I had to remind myself of that for 2 different things - when I packed something that the youtubers were saying not to pack, and when my family insisted I'm going to regret getting a backpack instead of a roller, and not availing of checked-in suitcases. Anyway, there are a few things I would change - I'm still a bit wishy-washy on the backpack vs roller thing because it was really awesome being able to carry my bag everywhere even in non-roller-friendly terrain and not have to worry about the bag getting snatched when I'm not looking. But yeah, after a while it does get to be a hassle to strap in and out of the bag and there are days when I just didn't want to carry the thing.
I can also relate to your "extra undies" thing. Especially being a woman who does sometimes get caught with "the flow" unprepared. It's just better to just throw the thing out instead of carrying the thing around until I get a chance to do laundry. Eeek.
I am abt to go on a trip this is so helpful
"Allergy pills" yeah sure Matt, allergy pills, keep telling you that
You need to know that I love your channel and it is helping me to learn english and train my ears with the language.
Great videos, great ideas and great person!
Another great one. Thanks for acknowledging that you can practice minimalism without being forced into “one bag travel” for every trip! Recently hooked on your channel - keep up the great work!

This helped a lot. I’m traveling to Nashville and I normally dont do a lot of traveling requiring a plane ride or luggage so it for sure helped!
My name is Matt and the most important thing I'm packing are THESE GUNS BABY 💪💪
Moisture wicking cloths are a must for me. They can be washed out in the sink every night and worn the next day, depending how minimal you want to be. I have the same rule as you for underwear.
This video, in fact, provides decent and compact knowledge, acquired by dozens of travels and pain.
Had to learn it the hard way though.
Kudos mate.
It is so brilliant that you make such amazing quality videos and are willing to give them out for no cost at all. Thank you
"2018... salmonella..." would love to hear that story.
As someone who just had salmonella recently...i know exactly what Matt means haha man is damn right! The throwbacks to this salmonella story do keep me laughing though - he mentioned it in his last packing minimalist video too!
Minimalism bags that you uploaded were coveted. It's too hard to get it in Korea..😇
i love your travel vids !! keep up the good work👍
I am about to head home from a week long trip and just wanted to say that I found your channel while packing before I left. You inspired me to try to minimize the amount of belongings I travel with, and as I repack my bag I have discovered that I can definitely get away with bringing less on my next adventure.
what do you mean posted 30 seconds ago

I too would like to know...
Ahhh I've been waiting for this video, I am secretly such a packing/bag nerd. Love this 👏
Wow! I think Matt is just reading my mind. I’m traveling in a few weeks to NY and I was starting doing some research about packing today. Thanks, Matt!
Yesterday I went to a picnic with my girlfriend, ex roommate and his wife.
not including the food and their chihuahua, my ex roommate and his wife brought more stuff than you did for the weekend.
also I would like to see what and how does your gf packs her luggage.
"how does your gf packs her luggage."
Let me guess: Open bag - put shit in bag - close bag - off to airport - et voila. =^.^=
Looking around, “did I forget anything?”

When someone tells me you're ugly
My problem is my backpack for carry on is usually too heavy. It weights 7kg but the limit is 5. How much does your bag weight Matt?
Great Video as always MaTT ✌
Marie Kondo has nothing on you Matt 👌🤣💪
Marie Kondo is highly overrated. The way she packs and organizes stuff is how my mom told me how to pack and fold clothes when I was just a little shit, almost 50 years ago. In Germany we'd call the Kondo way of organizing just "logical" or "rational" or "generally good housekeeping". Nothing to it.
Shoes and a coat two of the most irritating/bulky must haves you missed 🤷♂️
I didn't bring a coat & I wore my shoes.
Matt D'Avella Matt D'Avella 😂wearing sweats would lead me to believe you only took trainers....you must have very versatile trainers? If my memory serves me correctly it was snowing at your family’s home which would suggest only a mad man would take just one hoodie!!?? Forgive my freakish observations, I really did enjoy this video 👍
How about him only taking a pair of boots as I didn't see him showing what kind of shoes he would pack/wear
I would use that
literally travelling in a couple days and was trying to find a video for packing for only a carry-on, so helpful!!!
First time watching your content, and I really like it
Matt is such an inspiring minimalist, I really LOVE the way he manages the life! I got so inspired by him that I even moved to Bali with only one small suitcase and showed this everything in my RUclips channel. So, if you’re interested in minimal living & packing, you’re so welcome to have a look 🧡
MI Line OMG 😳 What did you take with you?
MI Line It’s not that easy when you move to a cold place...
MI Line cool content btw) do u buy anything in Bali?
@@user-ed2yo3fq3v Mostly clothes - some t-shirts and shorts, some dresses and shoes. Some technical devices also) Cause I'm a photographer haha)
@@Marie-rj6ld Of course, not, but one suitcase is not the aim... You can just consume and buy things consciously.
Because I am such a better minimalist than you, I pack as follows:
1) I have not bowed to the consumer pressure and purchased a travel bag - as I pack my essentials in a plastic grocery sack. This ensures that I blend into the local population by looking like either a hobo, or a hipster douche.
2) I do not take ANY extra clothing. When soiled, I wash any required garment in the hotel pool / sink / toilet / sewer drain. When washing said clothing, I AM BUTT NAKED. (Don't act like your not picturing it, ya damn sicko).
3) I do not own a toothbrush. Instead, I simply apply a small dollop of Dawn dish soap (blue) to my left middle finger and AGGRESSIVELY rub my teeth....... while standing outside on the curb...... making AGGRESSIVE eye contact with any and all strangers.
4) I have foregone the use of deodorant in favor of simply smoking more Marlboro Reds. That's called a "two-fer" right there!
5) I do not pack a phone charger. Instead, anytime I need to make a phone call (texting is traceable through the government) I purchase a new burner phone WITH CASH from the nearest Walmart. Then, at the end of every phone call - I get the cathartic joy of twisting and crushing the phone in my hands like Walter White in Breaking Bad.
6) I too take my own coffee: Folgers frozen coffee, with flavor crystals. Then, when I need a little pick-me-up I "rent" a lady of ill-repute and snort said coffee right off the back of the hotel toilet seat...... while she (or he..... come on man, it's 2019) slowly pats my back while saying "there there" in a loving and motherly way........ just. like. mom. used. to. do.
7) I'M NOT CRYING, YOU'RE CRYING!
That's deep, sir.
Also that made my day, thank you :'D
LOL dont put something extra in a plastic bag
Blaine D. Unreal
I appreciate the effort put into this comment.
Draken X You had me at “DEEP”!
Your video has become an inspiration for me to hv less things in my life.I might be not yet minimalist yet.but I love how u show that minimalism doesnt really scary to follow for. Thanks Matt!!
Thanks for spending the time to make a packing video with a minimalist perspective. I do have one question for you Matt, what do you do about shoes? If you have a nice night out, do you bring just an extra pair or do you have shoes that could pass for both the gym and looking nice? Shoes take up a lot of space
Okay where's the "I don't think that word means what you think it means" comment? haha
Never put your luggage on your bed. It's very very very dirty. Bed bugs dust from all over the world. Think about it...
I thought I was the only one
@@evrenonice it's disgusting.
I don't put my suitcase in my room for this reason
@@evrenonice Agree - but surely
people wipe down their suitcases
with a damp cloth before and
after use.
Or you can just wash your sheets and steam your floor? Otherwise if we use that logic, I can't wear my jeans on my bed bc they're contaminated by the trains, buses, university chairs, public benches...
I really love the comedy you add into your videos while still creating super meaningful content
Your videos are like wine, they get better the more you watch them! Great stuff
