  • Did you know you can make your own apple trees that are specific to your growing zone? Well we didn't really either until one day it clicked that it is completely possible and we just needed to become educated on this skill. Another benefit of grafting your own apple trees is the cost savings are huge! Of course there are some tools and basics needed like rootstock and scion wood, but it is very doable. We did not want to spend another $500-$1,000 or so on nursery apple trees to establish yet another orchard.
    This is something new we are trying, but we want to take you along for the ride as this is our first time grafting apple trees and so far we are kicking ourselves for not learning about this and trying it out sooner!
    In this beginner-friendly guide, I'll walk you through the entire process of grafting and making your own apple trees. From how I selected the right rootstock and scion wood to making a basic whip and tongue cut.

    Make a map of your tree placement in your garden on the back of an opened cereal box with a Sharpie marker.
