Actually they were big before they were signed, they were MySpace famous like Adele and everyone was wanting to sign them, you can find there original versions of their songs on RUclips from MySpace with different lyrics
They've got some great chaotic energy in some of their early hits. Brianstorm, Teddy Picker, and Fluorescent Adolescent are great examples. Some of their more rhythmic and chill hits include Mardy Bum and When the Sun Goes Down. All well worth checking out
I remember hearing Take Me Out for the 1st time it was on the radio at work and where it slows down at the beginning after the intro and that slow beat starts I thought omg wtf is this!! Love this song!
The Artic Monkeys debut album is packed with bangers like, The view from the afternoon, Dancing shoes, When the sun goes down and Fake tales of San Francisco.
Completely live, their first TV appearance. Still gives me shivers when I hear it. They were touted as the first band to be successful off the back of the internet with fans file shareing demos that the band gave out for free at their gigs.
A band from my village so got to see them several times before having this first commercially released single although they had already released a very limited E.P about a year earlier called 5 Minutes With Arctic Monkeys featuring the tracks “Fake Tales Of San Francisco” and “From The Ritz to The Rubble as well as about 20 tracks freely available to download online which was part of their success as they basically released their music for free and got a huge following before any official record company signed them up.
That sounds SO different live! Wow! For more Arctic Monkeys, I highly rec the official video versions of Why'd You Only Call Me When You're High? (the video has a big intro bit to it with R U Mine) and Knee Socks. Four Out of Five has some David Bowie vibes to me as well. So good!
If you want some fun check out their cover version of Girls Alouds song Love Machine that they did for the BBCs Live Lounge. The song is so not their style but they make it their own and are clearly enjoying themselves!
Its such a great song you should do When the Sun goes down, 505, From the Ritz to the rubble, The view from the afternoon, Flouresant Adolesant. Their earlier stuff is incredible stuff
I wasn't a fan back then, but when Do I Wanna Know released as a single I love it, listened the whole album (which is one of my favorite albums ever) and ever since I can't get enough of them
JAMIE T aaaaah, I've never seen love for Jamie T even on British-focused reaction channels!! Will he ever top Sticks n Stones, probably not (IMO it deserved just as much hype as other "ridiculously English" classics like Mardy Bum and Fluorescent Adolescent!), but god "Kings and Queens", what an album!!
I was living in Sheffield (where they’re from) when this came out, and it was epic - I swear everyone under 30 claimed they knew them. Hilariously, despite me being a mid 30s housewife, I did know the lead singer in passing, as my husband and I had lived next door to his family for six months when he was 14 or 15. I remembered him particularly because he had the same name as my son - Alex.
I used to go to Cargo in Shoreditch and they performed there (I was not there that day); you get to hear many amazing bands live. They made it big without being signed and this was as social media started picking up so the fans made it huge. I always liked this live version because it is raw!
They got together at around 2004/2005, without knowing how to play any instrument... Released their first demo in late 2005, which got massive because they would give out CD's after their shows, and people would upload it to Myspace, so they gained a massive following even before they released their first album... 2006 comes around and they released their first album and this song was on it... The album ended up breaking records in the UK, selling more than 350k copies in the first week of its release... They were 17-18 years old
Lol I still get Xmas cards at my house for the Turners I live at the same number his parents do there's only 2 main roads around here and some new posties sometimes get them mixed up
Back when Alex still had his dulcet Sheffield tones, before he adopted the mid-Atlantic croon that he has these days. Don't get me wrong, I still buy every album the day it's released, but in those early days, the accent and use of South Yorkshire dialect was one of the biggest attractions. I was studying in Wales, and hearing IBYLGOTD made me feel homesick!
Arctic Monkeys have done so many great songs! My personal recommendations to check out would be 'Teddy Picker', 'Flourescent Adolescent' & 'Mardy Bum'.
This song was probably the most exciting thing to happen in the UK for many years. They created such a storm with this track, and their second one called "When The Sun Goes Down".
The main key thing for a band is the name that they choose because it can mean everything. When I first heard these guys by name and not knowing the music yet, thinking that sounds interesting. They were and are good as hell!
In 2006 I used to work in a bar in Manchester UK and when they played this the place used to absolutely erupt!!! Real fun song to be drunk as a monkey (Pun intended) to and just rock out!
This is such a banger - their debut single, everyone sat up and took notice
Actually they were big before they were signed, they were MySpace famous like Adele and everyone was wanting to sign them, you can find there original versions of their songs on RUclips from MySpace with different lyrics
Hell yeah we did!
They've got some great chaotic energy in some of their early hits. Brianstorm, Teddy Picker, and Fluorescent Adolescent are great examples. Some of their more rhythmic and chill hits include Mardy Bum and When the Sun Goes Down. All well worth checking out
“chaotic energy” - well said
+1 to all of these suggestions
Don't think I'd describe when the sun goes down as a chill one 😂
Back to 505 is an all time classic and do me a favour
This band blew the roof off over here in the UK when this song came out ...still holds up strong today !!!
And they where only supposed to blow the bloody doors off
These lads popped out fully formed.
This was their first single and first number 1 single.
Legends.
'Popped out fully formed...' OUCH x100!!!
First time I heard this I was blown away. Still on my playlist and I'm 67 now!
niiice 🙂
It will still be on my playlist when I'm 67 too.
Same! I pulled my car over when I heard this the first time. And I cried! Unreal!
More old school Arctic Monkeys pls🙌
My husband sung this to me on karaoke 1st time we met, 14 years later still together 😂 great tune 👍
The raw talent of one of England's finest songwriters.
You’ll love A Certain Romance by Arctic Monkeys, one of their greatest!!
Agreed
The whole first album is amazing. They never topped it in my opinion. Every track is excellent.
Great band. They are really big here in England.
Still are pretty massive
Still are!
Yeah, this is from their earliest days. This version is a little bit faster than the record version but either way it bangs.
Ah yes some classic Monkeys 🤗,from my home city of Sheffield too 👌💙
I recommend ”Do I Wanna Know” or Franz Ferdinands ”Take Me Out”. Two really great tracks from that era. 👍
Take me out is a smasher
jayvee would LOVE Take Me Out, so funky and such a clean recording!!
I remember hearing Take Me Out for the 1st time it was on the radio at work and where it slows down at the beginning after the intro and that slow beat starts I thought omg wtf is this!! Love this song!
I have it on my list already too
The Artic Monkeys debut album is packed with bangers like, The view from the afternoon, Dancing shoes, When the sun goes down and Fake tales of San Francisco.
all tracks of this album are the goat
Chemical romance is a banger

Loved this when it came out, think mightve been their first single, maybe around 2005/2006? Try Franz ferdinand, take me out
Omg I’ve been wanting him to react to that for so long
Here’s Hoping he does it
Yes please!
I’m 60 in January and I love this tune…
It was their first single...it was like WTF...total banger!
This was a nightclub dancefloor filler in 2006 such good memories
2005 to be precise they're about 17-18. When this came out the hype was incredible and justified
So glad you fond this one :) - I have never wanted to be in a band as much as when I saw this video :)
Its such a great song you should do When the Sun goes down, 505, From the Ritz to the rubble, The view from the afternoon, Flouresant Adolesant. Their earlier stuff is incredible stuff
Great performance of a great song. Such a tight sound for such a young band.
Still awesome after all these years
Brianstorm is probably my favourite arctic monkeys song
I wasn't a fan back then, but when Do I Wanna Know released as a single I love it, listened the whole album (which is one of my favorite albums ever) and ever since I can't get enough of them
I appreciate the honesty of this review
Great reaction plenty more bangers from the Artic Monkey also love your T-shirt YNWA
“When the sun goes down/Brainstorm Live” or “Do Me A Favour” by Arctic Monkeys plz 😊
I love the beat!🔥
Arctic Monkeys its probably the best rock band of XXI century
Check out these British urban lyrical poets
Jamie T
Just Jack
The Streets
Plan B
JAMIE T aaaaah, I've never seen love for Jamie T even on British-focused reaction channels!! Will he ever top Sticks n Stones, probably not (IMO it deserved just as much hype as other "ridiculously English" classics like Mardy Bum and Fluorescent Adolescent!), but god "Kings and Queens", what an album!!
The best song ever made by 19 year olds!!!
And thats the LIVE version!!! 💯
Loving the Arctic monkeys 🐵🐒but loving your Liverpool FC tee even better my friend. You'll never walk alone.
Banger !
I absolutely adore your excitement, pure open heart....
That guy on drums is frenetic
Their first album is a masterpiece. Amazing when you consider how young they were
When I heard this song in the early 2000s it was an instant banger I loved it and the 1st to listen
Yeah this is a solid tune. Another band of the era worth your time is the Noisettes. Also, Bloc Party. :)
So many great bands from my home town 😍

love that the official video was a live recording
Arctic Monkeys reaction and your wearing a Liverpool shirt. Love you bro :)
Love seeing you in a #YNWA LFC top. Nice one fella!

I always liked this live version because it is raw!
This is the official video. They wanted it to look and sound like a garage rock song and performance from the early 80's
So good!!
Check out Mardy Bum, another of their early hits and will worth hearing. What an amazing band!!!
And When The Sun Goes Down as well!!!
And Take Tales of San Francisco too!!
Best dude from across the pond for reactions Ive seen, you should have more subscribers
What a tune, what an album, what a debut!! I still play this album on a regular basis.

Up the arctic monkeys, and up the fuckin reds!
Despite some good songs, their best stuff was at the start of their career.
Great to see you reacting to this. Such a banging tune. Xx
The whole album kicks ass .
The drummer is brilliant , the whole bands energy is incredible .

Lol I still get Xmas cards at my house for the Turners I live at the same number his parents do there's only 2 main roads around here and some new posties sometimes get them mixed up

Have you heard the interviews from tbhc. His accent is fully back no denying. During the AM period though I’m inclined to agree
That raw vocal is absolutely deliberate
it's so funny seeing an American react to British bands
I mean..... come on.Who cant LOVE this talent. Superb talented musicians
I YES GIRL
I love this version; it's so raw. Good review, glad you liked it
☮️💙🔥🔥
The very very start of this song always reminds me of the start of the song Sucker by Australian band 28 Days
Their first album is still in my top 5 of all time
Arctic Monkeys have done so many great songs! My personal recommendations to check out would be 'Teddy Picker', 'Flourescent Adolescent' & 'Mardy Bum'.

Time you listened to SUEDE!
Their gigs were absolutely insane energy.

Throwing my vote in for FAKE TALES OF SAN FRANCISCO. Great early track.

Loving the top dude!!!!!
Just blew me away, the raw edgy sound was refreshing to hear when this first came out.
I had forgotten how fantastic the Monkeys rhythm section were!
In 2006 I used to work in a bar in Manchester UK and when they played this the place used to absolutely erupt!!!
Real fun song to be drunk as a monkey (Pun intended) to and just rock out!
Very English, very Raw and very Good !!
Great band
T shirt brother 🙏god bless Liverpool lad says hello 👍
If you like the drumming in this, you should try 'Brianstorm'!
Or Piledriver Waltz. GREAT song on the drums, different time signatures and very cool sounding.
