Great track! The Arctic Monkeys have stated that one of their great inspirations is "punk poet" John Cooper Clarke, who back in the day would often perform as support at various punk band gigs. He's much admired for delivering his poems in his "northern English" Salford accent. He gained a bit of attention beyond the UK when his rendition of one of his poems, "Evidently chicken town" was featured in an episode of the US show "The Sopranos". Well worth a listen!

Highly recommend going through their debut album and follow up. Matt Helders is an exceptional drummer and there's a lot of great drumming on both albums.
Also should mention, most of the songs from their first album were written when they were 16! Insanely talented.

I appreciate that this guy makes the effort to find out the meaning of the slang he doesn't understand. I've seen so many non British reactors write off Arctic monkey songs simply because they don't understand what they're saying. Hoping there's more Arctic monkey reactions to come 👌

    Can't argue with that.
    That is a proper sound.

Nicky Nick and his baby fro, yo! Getting some boogie smiles which is always nice to see. I second what someone below said. Of all the 00 new hyper punk brit/euro bands…the best to me is The Libertines. Up the Bracket is a classic album in ever sense of the word. The first four tracks…just pick one. I love them all and all showcase a buzzsaw of awesomeness. Vertigo is my fave, Time for Heroes was a single. I get Along. What a Waster. Don’t look back into the Sun are all worthy singles. You’ll smile when you listen to them. Truss, bruv. Kisses

Love it. You really should do more Libertines, you like jangly-Morrissey style tunes, and the backstory behind that band is like an epic romantic tragedy. Fantastic lyrics and energy,

Definitely check out the live version of this, they opened the 2012 London Olympics with it!

It took me a while to appreciate what they do but I now like them a lot more than I used to. This may be due to the huge hype that surrounded their arrival on the British music scene, which gave them an awful lot to live up to.

I agree, as a Britpop kid I felt that bands like Artic Monkeys and the Strokes were being pushed down my throat, but over time have started to appreciate both bands more

If you like this… you need to listen to the band the Fontaines DC. A good staring point is their song ‘Boys in the Better Land’- Darklands version (the original single version). They’re from Dublin. Probably the best band EVER from Ireland…

Check out The Undertones, one of John Peel's favourite bands.
'Teenage Kicks' is the one to go for.

Actually, thinking about it, check-out Ian Dury and the Blockheads.
'Hit Me With Your Rhythm Stick' is the go-to.
And X-Ray Spex. Pretty much anything.

This was their debut single and went straight in at number 1. They were huge before they'd released anything. I saw them on their sold out tour in 2006 before any release..
Unfortunately, imo, their first album was their best by far
Have you heard The Maccabees? Try Marks To Prove it, Feel To Follow, Love You Better, Pelican, Spit It Out, Young Lions. They were about at the same time as arctic monkeys but called it a day in 2017. Got better with each album and we're ready to headline a huge festival when they quit...

They were actually unique in the way they used the Internet to promote themselves by releasing their songs for free which caught the attention of record companies.
