As a music producer I just have to point out the genius of the production and mixing. Normally with a track you mix the verse somewhat 'dry,' meaning less reverb and spaciousness, and when the chorus kicks in you add the reverb and make it sound big, because hey...it's the chorus. ABBA went the opposite direction here: spacious and open verse...and then an ultra-tight chorus: no reverb, no space...just a tight insular sound that gives me chills every time. I remember these days; ABBA were a punching bag at the time because of their fame and catchy songs. I am here to say four decades later we were very wrong. This is genius.

So many good acts are only good for their 2-3 singles per album and the rest is insufferable. With Abba, it's the opposite, their biggest hit (Here in the States) Dancing Queen, is FAR from their best work, though still classic in its own right.

One of the reasons why ABBA is such an impossibly-good band is they were so versatile. Out of any subject material they could make an excellent song. Heck, they could write a masterpiece just about walking down the street to get a coffee. They could make songs like these which just make you happy and radiate cuteness, or they could punch your heart repeatedly and make you cry.
    These four are legends.

I heard one of the members (I think it was Benny) saying that they worked a lot on the recordings by dubbing the sounds and expanding them. Both guys are sound engineers. They wanted the sounds to be pretty rich and luxurious and to have a recognisable pattern. So it is artifice at its best.

Have heard this song a thousand times, just realised the double “analogy” Super Trouper is not only the name of the large stage lights, but also Frida is singing about being lonely, but still going onstage when she just wants to be with her lover, a real Super trouper, putting others needs before her own. Amazing Bjorn lyrics!.

I always loved this song, but never knew what "Super Trouper" actually meant. After I left school in 2006, I found a job at a local theater and worked as an assistant stagehand for almost a year. One day, my boss told me I had to operate the follow spot for an event the coming evening. He took me to the small booth behind the crowd, and showed me the huge black lamp. "There it is, our Super Trouper!" - Suddenly, it clicked. I finally realised what one of my favorite songs actually meant, after all these years. Fond memories!

I’m so thankful to my parents for showing me “ABBA” during my childhood.
My parents are now in their 60s and have slight health issues. I’m listening to this song today at the airport after a week-long vacation with my parents and my two sisters, not knowing when is the next time we can all meet again :) sigh.
Thank you dear Daddy and Mummy for introducing us to ABBA ❤️ tears :)
EDIT: My father passed away a week ago (21st Jan 2024). During his last few days, we played all his favourite songs including the songs by ABBA. He wasn't very keen on eating during his last days, but listening to the songs he loved truly made him smile from within and gave him some sort of peace beyond human understanding.

The line "And I'll be there / when you arrive / the sight of you / will prove to me that I'm alive" is one of the most iconic sond bridges of all times, and for me personally surely the best. First the happy chorus, then the bridge start off all sentimental again and slowly progresses to a hopeful ending again... it just encapsulates the longing and anticipation of the whole song so so well.
I get goosebumps every time I hear that line... still, after many many years of listening.
