To all the parents who introduced us to abba, thank you.
My mum
It was my teacher who introduced me one day in P.E she put a radio on and it was Super Trouper.
My parents did. My father specifically. We lost him last year. And every time I listen to ABBA, Queen, Eagles, BeeGees, and Beatles I feel like he is hugging me from heaven. I miss him. Music will forever remind me of him.
I discovered it myself.
My mother introduced me playing ABBA whole day. The thing i admire the most is that you cant tell the difference between live and the music video's.
“Which abba song is your favourite?”
Yes
Yeah, so right!
Everyone Man! Everyone! Vive ABBA !❤

Absolutely
I'm from Glasgow and this song is quite popular at weddings and party's. I remember attending a few and every-time the line "I was sick and tired of everything, when i called you last night from Glasgow" came on the DJ would pause the Glasgow part and you'd hear a load of drunk Glaswegians shouting GLASGOW at the top of there voices, it always made me laugh
That’s the most Glasgow story I can think of. I spent four years there at uni, and you just can’t match the character that city and it’s people have.
I miss it, now that I’m in England.
@@marloesvdwetering8069 Sorry to be "that guy" but a quick google search reveals that it is Glasgow that Frida sings as it was suggested by someone who knew the band and worked with there UK Publishers. Its 100% Glasgow.

live isn't forever, but abba is.
It's" life isn't forever but Abba is" get it right girl
As a music producer I just have to point out the genius of the production and mixing. Normally with a track you mix the verse somewhat 'dry,' meaning less reverb and spaciousness, and when the chorus kicks in you add the reverb and make it sound big, because hey...it's the chorus. ABBA went the opposite direction here: spacious and open verse...and then an ultra-tight chorus: no reverb, no space...just a tight insular sound that gives me chills every time. I remember these days; ABBA were a punching bag at the time because of their fame and catchy songs. I am here to say four decades later we were very wrong. This is genius.
When I first heard Abba it was the instrumental and technology that pressed me the most and still in awe
......and not bad to look at.
Exactly . Was oxygen 13 yrs . This no 1 .
@@ronmorrissey8575 ?
Completely agree. Their music has aged incredibly well. You're not the first person I've heard from the music industry who says their production/arrangement was pure genius.
🅰️ = Agnetha
🅱️ = Björn
🅱️ = Benny
🅰️ = Anni-Frid
Actually it goes from age...meaning Anni-Fri,Benny,Byörn,Agnetha
@@mihaelajukic1314 interesting.
Benny was originally called Garry but AGBA didn't have the same ring.
@@abnormallyfunny Benny Bror Göran Andersson...Benny is his original name...Garry was English nickname
@@mihaelajukic1314 That's simply not true, it's Agnetha, Björn, Benny, Anni-Frid. Watch the original Eurovision where they won in '74 with Waterloo and at the beginning the introduction gives that order . Only difference is he calls Agnetha "Anna" because that's what they called her to simplify her name for western speaking countries. Anyway Bjorn is the oldest and Agnetha the youngest so your theory about being listed by age makes absolutely no sense.

+Eduardo Forneck Yeah, Abba is one of the rare instances where nearly their entire catalog is without a misstep or artistic divergence. So many good acts are only good for their 2-3 singles per album and the rest is insufferable. With Abba, it's the opposite, their biggest hit (Here in the States) Dancing Queen, is FAR from their best work, though still classic in its own right.

I always loved this song, but never knew what "Super Trouper" actually meant. After I left school in 2006, I found a job at a local theater and worked as an assistant stagehand for almost a year. One day, my boss told me I had to operate the follow spot for an event the coming evening. He took me to the small booth behind the crowd, and showed me the huge black lamp. "There it is, our Super Trouper!" - Suddenly, it clicked. I finally realised what one of my favorite songs actually meant, after all these years. Fond memories!
That is why the video starts with the lightning guy blinding us
Wow, thank you, now I know!
Yes thank you so much. I didn’t know what it meant either. It shows you don’t have to understand everything but can still recognise genius.
@@wjrs5 Yeah, my native language is german and as a kid/teen, I didn't understand english well enough to fully comprehend what the lyrics meant, haha!
It's the big damn light shining over them in the album cover, which, by the way, is a perfect album cover for their stature and the quality of the album's songs.
If you think about it, a song which takes its title from a type of stage light that most people wouldn't have even heard of sounds guaranteed for oblivion. Add to that it was written in English by a band whose first language wasn't English, and it doesn't get a lot better. So why is it that this is a classic which transcends the generations? Because we're talking about Abba here.
That's really interesting. Reading the lyrics, now it makes sense.
What a magestic, never drugs, always clean, example for future generations
ABBA is an perfect/brilliant inspiration and rolemodel for musicians and entertainers but yeah, in the 70s a band that behaved as classy as ABBA was sorely needed. Bands that got national fame so often resulted in cocaine and groupies of sometimes questionable age in an endless line. Rick James was a saint comparison to many of the predatorcreeps of that centura that used their fame for evil deeds
If ABBA ever gets back together I am selling my house to get first row seats...
Update: well, it seems it is happening. Park bench, here I go!

I will sell my life and borrow it for a day to watch haha.

But I won't feel blue
Like I always do
'Cause somewhere in the crowd there's you

When I called you last night from Glasgow
All I do is eat and sleep and sing
Wishing every show was the last show (wishing every show was the last show)
So imagine I was glad to hear you're coming (glad to hear you're coming)

How can anyone be so lonely
Part of a success that never ends
Still I'm thinking about you only (still I'm thinking about you only)
There are moments when I think I'm going crazy (think I'm going crazy)
But it's gonna be alright

So I'll be there when you arrive
The sight of you will prove to me I'm still alive
And when you take me in your arms
And hold me tight
I know it's gonna mean so much tonight
Tonight the super trouper lights are gonna find me

@@oljavas9050 ofc she does! It's an awesome song
Underrated ? How is it underrated ?
It’s not underrated. It’s always been considered an absolute classic, and one of the best pop songs of all time.
What makes you think it’s “underrated”??
Do you know what the word “underrated” means?
Absolutely zero underrated. One of ABBA's finest compositions and productions. It's just hip to shout 'underrated' for the local crew. and makes no sense whatsoever
Wow, this brings me back to my junior high years, when i was just 13, great memories.
The reason is that the compositional features are solidly classical. The melody possesses an inner "rightness" that elevates the human spirit by its beauty and aspiration to sublimity. It is pure joy and positivity. Abba are from a higher dimension: an antidote to the poison pumped at kids to induce consumption, spending frenzy, envy, competition. They are distilled love.
The bridge section of Super Trouper is the best thing they ever wrote - amazingly subtle and so much in a few seconds of music. The moments of pure magic and the storytelling in every song is what puts ABBA in the category of genius.
Nailed it! Exactly right.
Exactly!!
Indeed, most bands could have based an entire career on that fabulous 15 seconds at 3:00, but ABBA just throw it at the end of the song. Yeah, I’d agree, one of the best things they ever wrote. Just a shame the rest of the song is nowhere near as good.
I agree… among my favorite moments in any ABBA song (or any other song, for that matter).
That bridge is pure magic and I wish it could never end. I'm addicted to this song.
Man I'm depressed. I'm so down I don't even want to listen to ABBA. Well maybe just one song.
edit: I feel great!
"When a man is tired of ABBA, he's tired of Life." Dr. Samuel Johnson
Hope you're feeling great to this day! :]
true story
When I hit the like button i heard “I know it’s gonna mean so much tonight”. Have a woderful day.
Chiquitita is literally therapy
Абба, вы лучшие! Вас никто не превзойдет!
One of those Great ABBA songs that I had never listened before now. It is one of those I missed, as they made so many, and as a student I was at the time, my time to listen music was limited. But like all their songs it is an excellent one.
Abba never made you feel that they didn’t actually feel what was on their faces when they sang. You never doubted their sincerity. They had the most positive energy of any band back then, or since.
ironically this song is about insincere performers (not saying ABBA are insincere)

WHY every single song of ABBA makes me feel that is Christmas Time everyday all the time I lisent to ?
Same. This year I'm not even listening to real Christmas songs, ABBA on a loop
