- We are heading back to the 1960's in this one and getting the little square baler out! But not after a slog trying to ge the combine harvester running...AGAIN!
The break downs are just never ending! Its worth sticking around for this one in order to experience how things used to be done back in the 'Good old days'.

Ahhh the old armstrong stacker. Good job learn to tie in the corners of the stack and hurry up the next trailer load is on its way!!! I remember it well
We used a Perry loader which meant walking around behind the baler making stacks of 6, the flat eight was only a thing of our dreams, but the Perry loader was certainly better than a pike.😂
Little bales big job lugging them but brilliant things for feeding and bedding small groups of stock, so much better than carrying loose of a round bale around the yard
Used to love baling small bales with a claas baler and flat eight sledge ,then stack them with a grab and collect with a 48 bale collector .bring them into the passages in the cubicle shed to get them under cover in case it rained and later when we were quiet move them around into the barn ,stacked by hand . Good old days .

Brings back some memories James. It's the inside of my wrists that suffered.
I started stacking in the field from a non flat eight sledge to be picked up with a Perry grab then on to trailer them up the elevator. Was fun and hard work.
Farm i grew up on had a 48 grab on a teleporter in 1980 made the job better as you had a big stack then a bit of a rest depending on how far they were away, then a few 48s at the end were put up with the flat eight to finish the barn off.
Great days, could never get on with gloves though.
Never had a loader,was pitchfork in different lengths,soon got used to the motion of moving then firing it in the air and onto the trailer.Hooks were great used in pairs to sometimes scale the barn side to get balers when the ladder or elevator weren't about😂
That's the way we did it in the 70s and 80s 350 bales per trailer, when I did agricultural contracting
I remember working with a similar bailer etc when I was in my early teens in Sennybridge Near Brecon in South Wales for a dairy farmer, I used to drive the baler from a young age ( around 10 upto the age of 14 ) then we moved away from the area, have plenty of fond memories.
Cool video James we still make a few small bales of hay and straw for the sheep at lambing time bit disappointed you didn't have the ford 4600 in action baling maybe next time take care 👍
Wow 30 thousand small bales. We used to make 17 thousand small bales of hay up to the late 90’s and I thought that was bad enough. You made a tidy stack!

Great memories, used a welger, browns flat eight and David Brown 1594 Hydro Shift in my younger days bailing hay and straw in the South Hams area of Devon.
Great one again god that take me back when i was a young man would do that for weeks on end small bales hope u are all well and baby and wife cant till next week have a great weekend
Hi James enjoyable vid as always, I grew up on a dairy farm back in the 70's and 80's and we use to do about 15k small hay bales and about 20k straw bales either barley or wheat depending what was grown that year, so seeing you using the haybob and conventional baler and then stacking the bales brought back some fond memories, anyway hope you've got the combine sorted and it runs fine for the rest of the harvest.

We used to bale with a John Deere small square baler, browns flat 8 sledge on a John Deere 3040 cart with an old artic trailer loaded to the gunnels and pulled by a 3130 and load with an old David Brown 995 and farmhand loader and grab. We had exactly the spool levers you mentioned with 3 to control up/down, crowd and grab/ release.
25k straw and 12j hay small squares kept you fit!!
Not surprisingly another excellent engaging video.....small bales handling was a triumph and enjoyable to watch....your prowess as a farmer and a videographer know no limits....great to see your farm and great to see your very own progress...also good to still see this year>> no girly vests....Music is amazing as usual!!!!!! maybe you should set up Leicester's very own 'Glasto'!!! We used to cover the silo clamp with small baled barley and put them through a small hand straw chopper
We've a Lely Welger AP630 and a Browns bale accumulator. It's a great little setup, I love it! :D
As a kid in the late 60’s I worked for a local hay and straw merchant. On top of the stack in a Dutch barn being fed off a bale elevator made me sweat!

about three years ago I bought myself small square baling kit to go contract baling despite my dads objections, turns out he was right, never again will I touch those damn things haha! round bales all the way!
Oh and by the way the combine produced 2 and a quarter hundred weight bags of corn me and my father used to hold a thick stick behind the bag and grab the bottom of the sack then through it on to the trailer walk to the next that was hard work but I did sleep well in those days.
I used to bale with one just like that and a fordson super major then we had an elevator and stack the trailer 6 high we had the sledge as well now I’m 73 things have changed a tad he he
I still use an old 1957 massy baler behind a 35 massy now that's old school 😂 mind you it dose make me cross everything when it comes out . but at least its not a deer 🤣
We used to do that too probably between twenty and thirty thousand by hand
Great video's educational and entertaining. Basic question how do you sell your beef? Are you under contract to a meat processor or do you sell them to a general pool?
Cant beat them welgers lad we have a welger rp220 master and shes going like a clock them welgers and lely balers are way better then them mchales
How have you found the red clover mix for silage wanting some zero input silage for young stock
The best way to fix the combine is to sale it and buy a CASE
