When I think how difficult it was for the first Europeans to communicate to the people they found in their voyages, I wonder if it's even possible to communicate with other intelligent life in the Universe? They almost certainly had an completely different evolutionary process. A completely different biology. Completely different cultures that will seem extremely awkward to us. Maybe they already know about us but decided that it's best not to interfere in nothing and see where we are going with our intelligence.

So... for anybody who finds the topic interesting, and also enjoys sci-fi, I recommend reading what is now quite an old short story: "The sky was full of ships", by Theodore Sturgeon. Perhaps if there was a device like that discussed here, and it was here for millennia, then it might be even closer... (I won't spoil the story 🙂)
Everybody always talks about FTL drives, but the problem comes in three parts: An engine that has the power to accelerate you, the non-Einsteinian travel de-coupler that lets it happen, and finally, the thing that brushes rocks and dust and rogue planets out of our way so that we can go fast in the first place. No one mentions that third part, except by saying "shield." Not enough planning, there!

Space is so vast, the chance of hitting any asteroids is extremely low. Dust, though, that's probably more of a threat.

If the off worlders ate communicating with us it will be with symbols. The signals must be converted into a magnetic field and using iron particles the symbol will form like writings I believe. Sound vibrations will have to be used in conjunction with this magnetic field. I think it will look very similar to crop circles

Very likely. Our sun is very active at the moment with 7 active sunspots on the Earth facing disc at the moment. Hope you used eye protection to view them.
I was wearing sunglasses and the sun was low - I will look into getting some proper eye protection as that’s not ideal 😬
I couldn’t look away however, I’ve never seen one and it was a weird thing to see
@@paulriggall8370 Good cheap option to protect eyes while looking at the sun is a piece of welders glass. Sunspot 3664 is clearly visible at the moment.

There was an obvious blotch on the sun yesterday also at sunset. Towards the bottom of the sun. I could see it for a full 15 minutes as the sun sank lower.
