- ST. ROBERT, Mo. -- Law enforcement officers chased Cody Willcoxson from Fort Leonard Wood to Rolla after Willcoxson attempted to enter the post with an assault rifle. This video of the chase was recorded by a camera mounted on the dashboard of St. Robert police officer Trenton Herr. At 2:45, Willcoxson begins firing at the officer while being pursued on Interstate 44. At 14:25, Willcoxson exits off I-44 into the city of Rolla. At 18:47, Willcoxson arrives on the Missouri University of Science and Technology campus, exits the car and enters McNutt Hall. He was captured later that afternoon south of Rolla.
After a sentencing hearing Thursday morning, Cody Willcoxson, 31, of Southwest City, now knows that he will spend at least the next 59.5 years of his life in a Missouri prison.
He will reach his 91st birthday before being eligible for parole, and could serve another 10.5 years after that.
Damn
He won't live long enough to see 60 years old.
Well, you are wrong. He would not be 91 before he comes up for parole,..that's not how parole works.
@@hermanator74301 Exactly. A strange crew comes into these comment sections...
Here I be.
I knew a Cody Wilcox for 2 months in Camp Shelby Mississippi in 2007 - I was doing train up for Iraq and this ( maybe him ) Cody was put in my platoon for training. He claimed he was 101st Airborne from the 2003 invasion and since joined the national guard and was slotted to deploy. He talked about his PTSD and how he had a collection of rifles - and he use to carry a beat up old teddy bear in the barracks- he seemed odd at times - he was finely released 1 month before we deployed to go back to his guard unit - so maybe same guy ? Not sure
At 3:40 the ford truck that pulls off right when a shot is fired was my dad! I would have been 9 at the time, I remember him telling us about it. He passed away in 2013, cool to see this video to remind me of old times.
Sorry for the loss
He was sentenced 59 years in prison.
Yeah, he is probably stinking up my old cell
He should have got the "On the Streets Death Penalty". No questions asked. - Now he gets the good ole 3 hots and a cot
Mercoid. .. Hopefully he was/is being called Sally and is the shared evening's entertainment each and every night for 59yrs! He drove through at least one area with School Zone signs, children would probably think 'someone is playing Cops & Robbers - let's get close and watch!'. He could have easily fired on innocent motorists and people in their yards. May he suffer horribly in prison and maybe beg to die. Kudos to the officers for getting the heathen behind bars! Their courage and defensive driving skills certainly saved many lives. Not all heroes wear capes!
Thats my uncle lmao
NOT LONG ENOUGH
I'm glad they caught this lunatic and he was given a proper sentence. Kudos to the chasing Trooper and his skills and courage. Both vehicles are pretty tough to maintain that speed for so long too! I get pissed seeing the civilians and how they handle things like this. So many don't even pull out of the way for their own safety as well as the officers. Just a shame.
Everyone's focused, understandably, on the pursuit. Consider what this cop very likely prevented. What was the guy planning to do BEFORE the good guys intervened?
Thanks more than we can imagine, officer Herr. Thank you very much.
Now 2024 and just watched this - Never ceases to amaze me as to the bravery of these cops - To follow whilst under constant fire is beyond the call of duty, not many of us would do that. I don't know what bravery medals are awarded to cops, or honours given - but this calls for a big one. Lord knows what this Willcoxson would have done given half a chance. Thank you Officer Herr.
Damn the cop never gave up even though he got shot at
BUT HE USED CIVILIAN CARS SO NOT TO GET SHOT ---- NOT MY KIND OF HERO lol😂

We really owe a collective debt of gratitude to the restraint these brave officers showed in not returning this suspect's fire, especially after being fired upon by him, mile after mile after mile. If one innocent person had been hurt the criticisms would be flying.... Our hats are off to them! Wow, we have some calm, cool, and collected warriors protecting us here in St Robert and Rolla!
I grew up here. The cop started the chase in St. Roberts, which is just outside of the main gate of Ft. Leonard Wood. I grew up literally 500 feet from where the cop entered what the call the Spur (main strip in town). They headed towards Rolla, Mo. When I was a kid back in the 70s, that trip was an all-day trip. Going to Rolla was always something special because it was "so far away." The perp and the police officer got there in 17 minutes. Geesh. They were flying! Haven't been back in years
St. RoberT. Not 'Roberts'.
The second police car that showed up may have taken a bullet to its engine as it was smoking badly right before he spun out at that intersection.
The only time I've never seen a wall of trucks blocking I-44 and going 60mph. Can't believe this went that long without the suspect crashing into one!

Damn good defensive driving brother! Damn good!
Give the officer an SRT-8 Charger for his great work! Good Job man!
Where's there a couple of Swift trucks when you need them? They always good at tying up traffic on the interstate.😂
Sounds like a local.
Prime Trucks dogging along at 60 mph
Swift and UPS triple haulers.

SWIFT means "Sure Wish I Finished Training!".
My goodness... Now this is one of those pursuits that puts you on the edge of your seat.
I’ve got news for you. If you think that’s a real chase, you need to get educated watching the Arkansas Troopers. You’ll see what a chase should be, and how a runner gets his car knocked off the road.
Thanks for the good tour of Missouri.
I rode in a Model T touring all through Western Missouri a very beautiful state
Great sound of the "V" engine from cops car, beautifull.
Yes I really love the sound of a good engine vroom vroom used to go watch the rails and funny cars for years miss that
@@bevcamren1316
Nice to watch this video after seven years :-)
Thank for reminding me.
@@tybotti I bet the trooper was in a dodge charger. The car cornered far too well to be a Panther platform. And frankly the engine sounded too well and pursuit was a little bit on the edge of the Ford's capability. But the cornering was far too good for a Crown Vic.
@@marckemp9955 It's definitely a vic, the engine sound is the exact same as the panther platform's 4.6L modular v8, which was the only engine they were sold with.
OmG! UNBELIEVABLE Vid! The officer deserves a Medal of Valour, his Crown Victoria Interceptor deserves a Purple Heart! This guy was truely a Maniac!
Good driving, radio traffic and adrenaline control. Kept it calm and understandable. Amazing no one was hurt or killed.
I must add, this Magnum handled these Crown Vics and Chargers really really well

After nine, ten years ... By.???
Most amazing cop chase I've seen. I ride my bike on the streets that he drove on. Wow, It's like GTA in my town but its in real life.
I cannot believe how few people are pulling off to the side of the road with lights and sirens behind them.
DUH..
Easily explained. When you're driving, you're looking forward. These vehicles approaching at possibly double the speed from behind, often with intervening cars and trucks, may not be seen until the last second. It isn't necessarily clear which way to go, or whether it is even safe to pull over in that moment. Those involved in such pursuits may rapidly switch lanes and often drive on the left or right shoulder. The best and safest action may be to just keep doing what you're doing.
Just drive an emergency vehicle for a few days. You’ll see how deaf and dumb the motoring public is. They teach a course on how to avoid getting hit by the public when you are responding with lights and sirens.
@@tomberryhill5419 As well they should. When one is driving against the rules of traffic, one should expect the unexpected.
Did u ever pass someone at 140 mph they pull over when you are half a mile down the road
Cody was my best friend, used to live with me, I sure wish I knew why he did this, he had a lot going for him
Why don't you ask him.
I love how everyone criticizes the cop's driving while he's being shot at.
Cause he can't drive maybe.
@@jimgentry3403 - Maybe he's trying to avoid being shot.
@@foltzenlogel Because a car can swerve faster than that bullet travels. 😂
@@NaruSanavai Swerving makes aiming more difficult. Bullet speed is only one factor. Also, he was trying to stay in the driver's blind spot. I didn't know the cop was getting shot at with an assault rifle until after watching. His evasive driving makes more sense after learning that.
most of them say anything are the ones that break the law far as i am concerned
A 25 minute commute took well under 15 minutes at those speeds. Kudos to the officers for retaining control at those speeds and on that terrain, especially with civilians in the line of fire. Glad I wasn't on 44 at that time. Scary day for all involved and in the area.
God bless the trooper in this chase!!
yeah i loved how he kept ducking behind the innocent people on the highway as the guy shot. as to shoot the innocent people instead. its on camera and you cant deny it. say really. but oh well im glad they finally caught up to him after he let them.
@@eblack8362 And just what would you have done? jeeeez...
@E Black, I'm almost positive that MHP is hiring. Why dont you apply so you can advise the officers your vast knowledge of what to do in a high speed chase.
@@mighty300il6 trooper is still putting other drivers as shields, simple fact.
@@eblack8362 That situation would not be there had those innocents simply pulled over to the empty lane at the side of the road.
St. Robert is a small city with few officers on at a time, usually on opposite sides of the city. Rolla is almost 20 miles away, and MSHP troopers are only stationed every 50 or so miles. Sheriff's deputies are spread equally thin.
16:16 what happened there officer, showing off the drift capabilities of the ol' vic, lol. Love these cars
Love the sound of that Ford Interceptor!
It was. Really angry
You must be from Missouri also!
Unless you've been involved in a high speed chase of that magnitude, you couldn't possibly understand what was going through the minds of these Troopers especially the lead Trooper. He did a great job avoiding being taken out by the AK47 wielding jackals who clearly didn't care about the lives of innocent bystanders. I only wish the aide of Truckers was a possible alternative to ending the chase but again...innocent bystanders couldve bn hurt as a result...including the trucker(s) involved. Great job Trooper. From experience...i know your pain btother
You know, you are goin to jail to begin with and now you wanna make it life or lethal injection. The brains of an animal. Well actually my dog is smarter than that.
I m a truck driver been driving for 30 years and I’ve helped state troopers with felony stops 3 times
I live in Missouri and was hoping one or two of the drivers would help but very few drivers use the C B
anymore cell phones have taken over in the last 15 years
I still have one on all the time but I’m old school and my reason for leaving it on is for emergencies
Wish I was there know the area well.
Truckers need to stay out of police business as well as everybody else. Do not set yourself up for any liability whatsoever, the cops do not need or want your help
As a trucker of 30 years I am not getting in the way of any chase. Especially one with some nut shooting a rifle. This country thinks so little of truckers that we can't carry a gun to protect ourselves
? My dad drove 40 yrs.He always had a .38 on him
I think its safe to say the engine in this car, is now carbon free!
So WHY is this video popping up now after nine or ten years.??
great job! we are taught not to pass on the right running code but when lead is flying the rules go out the window
I love listening to the sound of that Ford engine scream!
Yeah that piece of shit was screaming all right
Nothing quite like the sound of a Crown Vic, winding up.
@@greyjay8744 Hmm but it hardly moves.... :)
Brad Dunbar , I'll miss them but the Cab companies will love the phase out !

I'm not crazy about Ford's or Dodges but I do love the growl of a Hemi
This police car has one sweet sounding engine.
Sounds like engine failure soon...x3 ouch...
There is no possibility of out running a group of humans with inter-vehicle communications in other cars and it doesn't matter whether they are Cops or not.
They tend to upload the ones they catch
He got away lol until hours later
It appears that drivers in Missouri don’t feel that they should pull over when a police vehicle with lights and siren come up behind them. They just keep on driving as if nothing is happening.
I mean the guy is a criminal lol
It's that way all over the country. Most people do not keep an eye on their rear view mirrors. Then some people think they own the hammer lane, how many people realize that the hammer lane is for passing only, if you are not passing another vehicle then keep your dumb ass out of that lane.
They don't need you or want you to pull over when they have a path.
@@wpiofm according to the driver's manual, you're supposed to give right of way to emergency vehicles here in this state. Easier said then done when they come on really fast or don't really have a good place to move over to. I'm not sure if they changed that or not.
No they don't I worked Fire/EMS for 35 years in STL area they don't move and have the nerve to flip you off
Pretty smart of the officer staying to the right like that. You'd think it would let the gunman take better aim at him, but if he missed, the bullet would go off into the side of the road...and not into a car behind him. Great pursuit officer.
@kitgebhardt1 When cruisers are approaching you at high speed from behind and there is space around you, it is far safer for them and you if you stay put in your lane. At 120mph you are traveling over one third of a football field per second. By the time you react and begin to pull over, you stand a good chance of driving right in front of the officer. If you see him soon enough then sure pull over, but when they are approaching at that rate of speed and they're close, you stay put in your lane
Here we go again, if you can’t show the end then don’t even post it
Get over it if you don't like watch something else
All police cars should have bullet proof front windscreen, windshield.
But then how would the cops shoot out through their windshields at the bad dudes?
a grenade launcher with a trigger on the steering wheel.
@@Itsisawnotiseen With the 20mm canon installed in the grill, of course.
I think what amazes me the most is, NO ONE MOVING OUT OF THE WAY..
Are you kidding me right now? I believe if you watched the same video as I just did, this officer had NO problem keeping up with him. In fact, I was wondering what the hell was wrong with the local cops in the city they finally caught him in? Not only did this cop stick to this guy like Superglue, he was in the "Zone" making it look too easy.
This was an exciting chase. That cop really knew how to drive a car. Reminded me of the John Dillinger days back in those '30s cars, a running car battle. All they needed were running boards.
Everybody had running boards in the 1930s so a cop could just hop on a passing car and shout: Police! Follow that car! 🤣
awesome. one of the best chases i've seen.
What kind of car Cruiser do you have sir?
Ft. Leonard Wood Mo. is where the Military Police are trained as well as Military Police dogs, This guy had no chance if he got into Ft. Leonard Wood.
I have worked there for some 8 years and know the place pretty good. They also have multiple branches of the armed forces large troops and is heavily armed. This guy and a AK47 is like a bb gun at one of them carnival games.
I'm actually surprised that the MP's at the gate didn't just grab him for the hell of it and use him for some dog training.
This place is NO JOKE people. It's also a great place to work at and proud to have been there.
Great driving by the cruiser. I like the exit ramp technique he used.
It's good to know the suspect was captured alive. It's also worth noting that when he was arrested, he was in possession of meth.
That makes sense...
My town (Auburn, Massachusetts) just chased an armed suspect carrying a loaded .38. My town abanded the chase when they lost sight of the suspect 4 towns over... but one of the other towns picked it up. Although it sounds like they might have lost it.
Them shocks and suspensions in cop cars is out of this world
What a gripping car chase! Loved every minute of it.
Better than Daytona 500. Lol
16:20 detective handled the spinout pretty good.
Comic relief .....
His car wasn't well maintained, he was trying to hog the "glory", and he didn't know how to drive.
No, the police officer handled the detective's spinout really well!
I also realize the police package cars are tuned differently, but the tuning only makes them slightly faster than the regular civilian Crown Vics. It doesn't turn them into rocket ships. There's dozens of videos of people with second hand police spec Vics demonstrating their performance abilities. None of them do 0-60 in less than 7 seconds and their top speed is about 135-140 mph.
They should all drive "dodge hell cats"
What happens at 18:35? Did the suspect's radiator explode?
17:53 I was driving that black car and got hit. I remember looking for my sunglasses and then BAM! Didn't hurt at all though
Wow, awesome, this is rare
Glad you are ok!
Not looking where you were going?
@Demirov Mirinchev It also didn't help that someone broke the law and decided to run from police in their car. ;)
You sure don't hear from someone involved very often. Glad you were alright!
Oh man I remember this day. I live in Waynesville/St.Robert MO. Seeing shit like that through a place I drive every single day is nuts. I remember they put the hs on lockdown when he tried to bring that rifle on base.
When you see a police car coming up behind you with lights and sirens on you need to get the hell over!!!
The closing speeds approach sixty miles per hour. An eighth of a mile every seven to eight seconds. You realize there's a pursuit when the first car blows past you. You have time to utter an expletive before you hear the siren. I was crossing the SF Bay Bridge many years ago when someone blew past me at speeds like that, followed by the CHP five seconds later. Never had a chance to see them in my mirror, Heard the siren about a second or two before the cop blew past me.
How many jobs are there that when you are being shot at, you keep driving towards the shooter? Bless all police.
I don't understand why police cruisers are not equipped with a bulletproof windshield.
I'm not talking about full vehicle armor... that would be ridiculous in weight and cost.
But, just the windshield... that can't be too much weight OR cost... and it would DRASTICALLY improve officer safety in situations like this.
yelling loud i'm a hero i'm a hero
@@bobinthewest8559 most cruisers now days have ballistic door panels, cop cars already weigh so much more than civilian versions to add ballistic glass for a windshield would add so much weight it usually weights 8 ibs per square foot of glass

@@bobinthewest8559 thats for the thinnest option would stop small pistol rounds the cars struggle enough with the weight already while yes it can make a difference in officer safety it will also make them lose the suspect due to them not being able to keep up.
16:18 Before that cop said ''I am pro drifter i will take that curve with drift''
After that ''Damn i am bad drifter..''
Why not move over?
Half second reaction time after seeing the approaching cruiser. A second or two to pull over, and by that time the trooper is maneuvering around you in a Crown Vic. Even with the interceptor handling package, the Crown Vic handles like a sled, so you stay in your lane and let the officer maneuver around you for both your his safety. Otherwise, you will be changing lanes right in front of him. With a speed delta of 60-75mph you won't hear the siren behind you.
when was this?

My finger nails were missing by the end of the video.
the detectives car never made it to the end, spun on his own coolant and then nearly took out Herrs cruiser on the same slime. Stuff driving that close to an active shooter in a slowing car. Whats the maximum speed that they would perform the PIT?
Dude, I'm holding the magazine in my hand right now. It's the October '12 issue. They have a whole comparison of the new Police spec cars from the big three compared to the Crown Vic Police Interceptor (Police spec, not Civilian). The Performance numbers are from the police spec car. They're not secret BTW, since that would be pointless, as anyone can buy a police spec Vic second hand. Also, no stock Vic will go 250mph. The current fastest production car only goes 268mph with 1200hp.
God bless our troopers

It's good to finally see a police chase video that does not end in a fiery crash, a head on collision, or a hail of gunfire on an unarmed criminal. Comments say the runner was taken into custody and is in prison. He's lucky he was not in North Carolina, cause he would be dead.
