She does her own harmonies in the studio. They occasionally use some of those harmonies live through tracks to a limited extent live. Nobody else in the band sings. This song is about how your thoughts and worries/anxieties overtake you and you feel like you are falling into a vortex of despair and confusion. You might consider the monster inside the vortex as a monster we create with our emotional baggage. You might find their videos Perennial Live at Wacken Open Air, Judgement and Punishment and Teacher Teacher interesting as well.

There are vocals that aren't Tatiana's on some Jinjer tracks but not very many and it is obviously as backing vocals (gang vocals on "Teacher Teacher" for example) - Max Morton, their producer has contributed vocal parts to their songs if I remember correctly and often helps Tatiana hash out vocal melodies - he sings in his own band as well
But yes, this has doubled vocals from Tatiana and she does use backing tracks in some parts live just because it would sound "off" without the additional vocal layers
@@neilpatrickhairless Yes mostly "shouted" vocals like on No Hoard of Value and Words of Wisdom but that isn't really what I'm referring to.
@@neilpatrickhairless I think they are still aware and conscious of the controversial side of using tracks live because they largely keep it simple and in fact throw parts out if they can. I can respect that use of tracks. They never use it as a crutch. Not that that matters to some people.
this band is one of a kind, from the perspective of a musician and music lover.

I got into Jinjer because of their composition, initially *despite* the extreme vocals. However, integrity is important to me in music, & it quickly became evident to me that Tatiana is 100% genuine when she's on stage / in the studio doing her thang!! Jinjer & Opeth are the only two bands employing extreme vocals on whose music I've spent actual money (so far anyway). Anything since Vlad the (classically-trained pianist to trade) drummer joined is well worth a listen, so the "Micro" EP, "Macro" & "Wallflowers" albums.
Oh, & I'm an occasional bassist, so I love what Eugene comes up with as part of Jinjer. Not for a reaction vid, but if you'd like to know how a single-guitarist heavy band can sound this *huge* ,treat yourself to watching the bass playthrough vid Eugene uploaded for this song- it's a 5-string drop-A #MasterClass, using *all* the techniques yet always in service to the piece. ;)

@@RightManWrongPlace A bass playthrough vid isn't something I'd normally recommend a non-bass-player to watch, but this truly is a #MasterClass of bass in a heavy band.
There is something transcendent in watching anyone who is a master of their craft doing their thing. I mean, I'm not a drummer, but I watch everything Jorge Garrido puts on on his El Estepario Siberiano channel, because he, imho, "does" drums better than anyone else on the planet right now!! Do a reaction vid to his drum cover of "Blinding Lights" sometime.... & be fully caffeinated.... & don't blink!! #Transcendent ;)

Odd timing (bass & guitar on different time signatures for example, or deliberate off-beat drumming) is a powerful way to build a feeling of unease in a track.
For those of us with mental health issues, the trash monster is well known. If it seems odd to you, congratulations on not having that particular demon in your mind.
This is one of my favourite tracks from my favourite modern band. Amazing, resilient, inventive, hard-working, tasteful, talented, compassionate people.
I recommend "Home Back" for the heartbreaking Ukrainian view of the annexation of eastern Ukraine (before the more overt aggression we have now). It was where 3 of the band members grew up, now a torn wasteland.
I really, really appreciate your perspective here. Someone else commented "it's not a black hole" and I started to get it. In the moment I couldn't quite parse the meaning, but this hits home for sure.
Vlad (the drummer) is a classically trained pianist. He taught himself drums for the band he played guitar in just prior to Jinjer because they couldn't find a drummer. I think his kit is set up the way it is partly because of his piano background. Purely speculation, I don't actually think that is confirmed anywhere.

Vlad plays open handed and with his kit low because it is just how he naturally set it up and started playing. I think he did talk about it briefly in an interview once
Lol Jinjer is ukrainian proggy djent groove metal with complex time-signature maze, polyrhythms and multi-genre blending. They are one of the most talented 4-pieces ever. Tati is one of the best overall metal vocalists and lyricists in the business.

One thing that almost no one notices on their first listen is that this song doesn't have the typical song structure (intro, verse, chorus, bridge, etc), each part of the song is different and it's played only once. Depending on how you look at it, you can say that the song is all verses or all choruses. 🙂

The order compiled here is not 100% arranged like the album playlist, because sometimes there are no music videos, or they are not good enough quality for me to list here! When someone starts listening to Jinjer not from a Pisces song. Usually everyone says that you entered from the wrong entrance. But still, thank you very much for your reaction.
Well, it seemed like a good entry point for me personally! Each instrument had me hooked as it entered.
Everybody does Pisces first, I think it's overplayed personally. Its a good song but imo Vortex is a much better song all round and I think is a better introduction, hence why I chose this song for him and not Pisces.
@@YamatoSumeragi I agree with you. I like the song Pisces but the video is now almost 7 years old. When I saw Jinjer this past July, they played a 14 song set and Pisces was not included. The did play my two favorite Jinjer songs, Teacher, Teacher! and Pit of Consciousness, as well as Vortex. Any entrance to Jinjer is the right entrance.
The band doesn't even like that they broke big with Pisces, as it is technically an unfinished song and a bit too personal for some of the band members themselves.
@@YamatoSumeragi Personally, I don't think Pisces is one of Jinjer's best songs; it's a song that works best as a trap for the unprepared listener.

It might help if you think of the vortex as a brain and all that flies into it as social media, the golem being the end result and symbolizing what ugliness can be created there if you're not strong enough.
