Very Nice. And I really like how you gave a shout out to that planer company without going overboard with their sales pitch. It was a very nice and effective review of their product without putting your integrity in jeopardy.
You are the only maker I watch that doesn't have big add sponsors so get them if you can. It will allow you to expand on your already cool content. Good luck.
Nice Job! Vevor sent me a planer too. I thought they only made vinyl cutting printers. I guess their marketing strategy now is to get us to use their planer so our viewers become more familiar with the name.
Damnit! I didn't realise how versatile a biscuit joiner could be! Now you've gone and convinced me I need a biscuit joiner 😆 The tool list keeps growing faster than I can afford the tools 🤣🤷
Your biscuit joiner skills are off the hook! I love the “stitching” on the bottom also. It’s the details like that that make it that much better. Oh yeah, that that that that that. And that
I just learned something New today . I never imagined that The biscuit jointer could be used to make improvised handles in a box. So thank you for educating an old timer and for raising my level of enlightenment.
I love seeing that you made a biscuit joiner more than a biscuit joiner. I love this for splines, I'm going to pickup up a joiner blade with a flat-top grind.
Always amaze me with your brilliant unique ideas. I have used a similar method to splines using a biscuit joiner. Although using jointer as a slide with biscuit stops is a great idea as well as using it for pulls. Keep up the great work. I’d rather see fewer videos with new ideas than weekly videos of usual builds. Hope these plans are on your website.
Josh, the bottom looks good. I like the use of the biscuit joiner for the corners of the box. The bottom does indeed look like it might have been stitched. I think a depth stop of some sort woudl help get the correct size that you want. It would be something you would have to mess around with. Super cool box and came out great!
Very interesting and creative use of the biscuit joiner! Well done! A beautiful box you made there. The contrasting colors work well. Perhaps the dark wood is walnut, though I wouldn't expect that on a typical construction site. Watching the end of your video, may I suggest getting either an Oneida Dust Deputy or a Dustopper HD12A. Either of these will give your shop vacuum & filter a much longer life.
The bottom did looked like it was stitched up to me. Very cool I'm gonna make one, but I'm not trying the veneer, lol. Thanks for another awesome video.
I think you're probably right. The company that sent it to us for material testing was in Brazil. The wood was super resinous and they were having a hard time getting any paint or stain to finish it. When we dried the wood in a kiln it secreted this thick black resin all over the bottom of the kiln.
Great video, some interesting techniques used that I have not seen before. At last something original on RUclips been some time since I have seen a new technique used well done. Can I ask what was the thickness of the veneer that you ended up with.
Nice video,Josh! The only thing that I think you might do to improve the shop is to add a cyclone separator between the dust collection and the shop-vac. It really saves on those filters. Overall, I am impressed with your crafty approach to gift box making.
Greetings from the One Handed Maker - Australia I just discovered your channel and have subscribed. Love how you made this box! Will check your other videos as well. Regards James
I like what ur doing and how u go about it with some original ideas. As for the wood it's hard to tell but I think it's, and this is just a guess but I think it's wood from a tree 🌳. Any other questions I'm here to help
Nice watching your videos, The wood your Brother gifted you I think is Ipe from the Brazillian Rain Forest. At least it looks like it, and the fact you said it was really dense. I used to lay Hardwood floors and we had some jobs using that. One board seems like a cinder block, lol.
I was almost disappointed you used the biscuit joint for its fully intended purpose near the end, to attach the top. Should've placed them vertically or something to complete the theme of the video 😉
Can I please have an amazing button 💎 instead of just a like button👍🏼? I had no idea my biscuit joiner was so versital. The box itself is fantastic and beautiful. The planer shavings as packing material also great. Imaging using ceday shavings! I do have 2 questions. 1) What was the final thickness of the veneer? 2) Were you able to tune the snipe out of the thickness planer? Thanks
Thank you for the kind words! 1) I think the final thickness of the veneer was just over a 1/16". 2)if I'm really careful I can get very little snipe but I've never really been able to completely eliminate snipe with any planner I've used. I ussually just leave the peice a little long before planning so I can cut off the snipe afterwards.
I like the inventive use of the biscuit joiner. But non traditional uses of a tool can add some no traditional hazards. Someone doing this should think through what could go wrong and devise their own plan for mitigating the risks.
@@JoshWrightWoodworking I have a bunch of Brazilian Walnut, Black Walnut as well as the regular kind that is lighter in colour. Honestly. What you have could be either of the darker varieties.. Every tree will have its own shade. Depending on the nutrients and weather it was given. That's the beauty of wood. No two trees are quite the same.
@@JoshWrightWoodworking kinda wish you were closer. I'd load the van full of random chunks of hardwood. Just to see what you make with it. My storage racks are a little over full right now. Lol
You always amaze with multiple uses for a particular tool. Keep up the creativity my man! I enjoy the videos. Thanks 👍
Biscuit jointer: the project!
Always love seeing what can be classified as a unitasker used for different purposes!
Very clever way to use a biscuit joiner, I'm impressed.
Seems like a nice planer within the budget of most of us 'po boys'
Very Nice. And I really like how you gave a shout out to that planer company without going overboard with their sales pitch. It was a very nice and effective review of their product without putting your integrity in jeopardy.
I watch The Posh Paper Lady here on youtube the same company gave her a paper cutter to use and review so they must have a wide range of products
WOW , If I received a hand made gift like that from my brother I'd be so proud!
First video I've ever seen that has more uses for a biscuit joiner than just biscuit slots. Nice!
Those are some absurdly inventive ways to use a biscuit jointer. I love it 😍
Great, now I also want to have biscuit joiner.
Great usage of that tool!
You are the only maker I watch that doesn't have big add sponsors so get them if you can. It will allow you to expand on your already cool content. Good luck.
VERY CREATIVE ! I have never seen anyone use the biscuit cutter like that. Great stuff😊
Fascinating use of a biscuit joiner, I wouldn’t have imagined, love the corner jig!

Excellent project and creation of multi-tools!
Wow that handhold idea is genius, I'd have never in a million years thought of using that tool like that. 👍🏻
All the hate that the biscuit joiner usually seems to get makes me like this video all the more. Incredible work!!!
Very cool box! Lucky brother! 😊
This is truly amazing! I love the way yo work with wood! Keep up the good work! It’s always great to see a young man that knows his way around wood!
Thank you gus
Josh I love woodworking and watch a lot of videos to learn. You are hands down one of the best I’ve seen. Keep it up and thanks for the great content.
You are growing into one of the good ones! Keep it up!
A beautiful gift box. Your use of the biscuit jointer to cut the corner accent slots was brilliant !
Great ideal using biscuit jointer for making handles. I will be using that ideal. Thanks
That is a brilliant idea. I sold my biscuit jointer as a wasn't using it, now I wish I had kept it.
Got to say love your ingenuity
Now that's thinking outside of the box. For $350 including the stand, that's a sweet deal. Nice work Josh
Kool trick with the biscuit
That biscuit jointer handle trick is the best thing I’ve seen in a woodworking video in ages - and I watch far too many 😂
As you were building it, I really didn't think I'd like the lid on the box. I was wrong. VERY nicely done!
Superbe ! Merci pour les astuces à la lamelleuse 👍
Excellent gift and workmanship. Hello from deep South Texas .

Dude that hat looks so freaking good
It's not a hat... it's a box 🙄
Nice work!
Super cool video! I'm loving the box and the biscuit jointer creativity. I see someone got a new tool to try out haha
Love the lid design!
The bottom did looked like it was stitched up to me. Very cool I'm gonna make one, but I'm not trying the veneer, lol.
Thanks for another awesome video.
@5:44 The wood looks like Jatoba...Brazilian Walnut

I was thinking Ipe. Its a popular for decks .

Added to my favorites!
Love it! Great job.
I think that the dense wood was Walnut. I have seen it out here in NC on a lot of sites of old construction.
Love your work 👍

Shavings: hand planed red cedar is nice.

New stuff. Woot
Mad skills 👉💥💯
I actually really like the bottom of the box. And to be honest I didn’t think you were old enough to buy gin.
Thanks! I'm not old enough to buy gin, had to get my parent to buy it and pay them back.

Very nice. What would you do without your biscuit joiner?

I think the wood kind of looks like... Its something like jajoba??? Jacoba???
I've seen it done by painting both with wood glue then when it's dry put the two together and iron it .the veneer will stick.
I was almost disappointed you used the biscuit joint for its fully intended purpose near the end, to attach the top. Should've placed them vertically or something to complete the theme of the video 😉
If nobody has mentioned it yet, the dark wood you were using looks like black walnut... I use it quite a bit in my projects as an accent wood.
How thick was the veneer that you ended up using?
Nice box Josh. I had the thought you might try laminating the two boards before you resaw. Just a thought.
That is a great solution that I will have to remember for next time.
Can I please have an amazing button 💎 instead of just a like button👍🏼? I had no idea my biscuit joiner was so versital. The box itself is fantastic and beautiful. The planer shavings as packing material also great. Imaging using ceday shavings!

@@JoshWrightWoodworking Thanks for the quick response to my questions. I found the amazing button, it’s on patreon. 😉
@@lincolndickerson1293 I saw that, very much appreciated 🙏
What might work is use a thick board and clamp it a lot.
I don't see the plans for this box on your website. Are the plans available?
It looks like walnut
Josh, will this be added to your website?
Maybe, but not for a while. Plans are very time consuming to make so I only make plans for my more popular videos.
Looks like mahogany.
I like the inventive use of the biscuit joiner. But non traditional uses of a tool can add some no traditional hazards. Someone doing this should think through what could go wrong and devise their own plan for mitigating the risks.
Wood you used for trim could be Black Walnut? Hard to tell from a video though.
Yeah, its hard to tell from the video but Someone in the comments suggested Ipe aka Brazilian walnut and that seems to be the most likely answer.
