Hey thanks so much. That's exactly what I was going for when building this channel. I work really hard all day long and when I do a video here on this channel I just want it to be relaxing and chill, the way video games should be. Thanks again.

I just stumbled upon your channel (via the Analogue Pocket vid). I've had one from the first launch. I guess I got lucky and managed to get my order through. I love it as well. You seem to be around the same age as me, and I like the videos I've seen so far. Consider me subbed. :) As for Animal Well, I hope I'm not too out of these types of games. I feel dumb with some of them. I used to get through the Zelda's, Metroids, and so on, in a few sittings, but now I get stuck on games like Tunic, in the first few minutes! I think I lost my gaming skills for newer games! Maybe I'll grab it. I am still on the fence with the physical PS5 copy. The sale at LRG ends tomorrow, IIRC. Take it easy! (Matt)

Thanks Matt! Appreciate the comments. I think it’s just a matter of patience. I think as kids we had much more of it. It’s a good lesson to return to that level of patience.

Reminds me a bit of Fez, in terms of aesthetic anyway - there's lots of exploration and it's really clever with the 2D/3D aspect. You should give Fez a go if you haven't played it. It's a cute puzzle-platformer indie title from 2012.

    • @ClaytonMorris

Yes heard Brendan over on the Into the Aether podcast talking about Fez in relation to this game. Not a game I've ever played but now I'm curious about it.

Looks great! I'm going to play it. BTW, this game reminded me of 3 other small metroidvanias that I loved and recommend: Super Win The Game and Alwa's Awakening/Legacy.
Super Win The Game is only on PC, on Steam, but it also has no combat and has great CRT/scanlines effects.
Alwa's Awakening (and the sequel Alwa's Legacy) do have combat, also look like NES/SNES era games, and have the bubble mechanic you showed from Animal Well. These two are also available on consoles. Short but great games all three of them.

I started this today with my son. He then asked me to play Fortnite with him. I obliged. Now he’s gone to bed and after I’m done this video I’m diving back into Animal Well! 😊

Awesome. It’s amazing how important an ancient D-pad still is for platformers. I used a D-pad for Mario Wonder too!

6 hours if you just want the credits. But if you go for the true ending, oh boy, prepare yourself for a ride. I played it for 27h. Got almost everything out of it, but not 100% yet. Also, there is one puzzle that requires community effort, as you only receive one part of the information and you need 49 more things, which you can only get by searching the community posts and seeing what they got

Something I haven't heard enough people talking about, the main game is around 6 hours and relatively accessible even to casual gamers. The Post game took me 24 hours to complete without guides, though I did have to look up hints for the last couple bits I needed to find. The End game is absurd, ARG level puzzles, literally impossible to solve by yourself. Some puzzles require you to screenshot the game and edit the background into a barcode to scan which gives you a code you can convert to a song for your flute, while others literally give you only a piece of the solution and you're required to ask the internet for the other pieces. It can be really difficult to tell if you're wasting your time in game trying to solve a puzzle that isn't even accessible to you unless you have help, but the ones you do solve on your own will make you feel like a god gamer and expert detective. Just be aware of the 3 layers of the game and how you might want to approach them differently!

I find it wild that for a physical copy they have to use a PS5 disc -an ultra hd bluray of 100 GB of data- for an indie game that's just 40 megabytes, which is basically the size of a N64 ROM.

    • @ClaytonMorris
      @ClaytonMorris  2 месяца назад

I know it's crazy. They could put this on an NES cart and I'd buy it.

Heard about the hype, also that it needs something like 35 MB disk drive space.
I'm currently playing the great Manor Lords.
Also heard that Mullet Mad Jack just came out. Played the demo a while back and absolutely loved it. Its ridiculously awsome like FarCry Blood Dragon (the best in the series). V-Rising also just had it's release....BTW Dave the Diver will get a Godzilla dlc that will be free to activate for a certain time period (think its on the 23rd)

I really want to play it, but I’m waiting for the physical version from Limited Run. Yes, it’s only 6-7 hours, but I heard it can last dozens of you search for secrets.

I rolled second credits after 24 hours in game. Had to look up the last couple secrets before the real end game secrets. Everything is so well hidden, I'm astounded the community solved everything so quickly!

This game seems pretty interesting. But I'm kinda loaded with games at the moment and the price is a bit on the high side for the Steam version. I figure I may as well wait for a good deal on it while I focus on other games for now.
By the way, if you do like puzzle games, I highly recommend checking out Baba is You. It's available both on Steam and Switch and there's nothing quite like it. Unlike other puzzle games, this one doesn't hold your hand. The early puzzles are easy, but the difficulty quickly ramps up. And it's also a really nice game to play with relatives around you helping, with everyone trying to solve the puzzles together. What I really like about it is that there's just a lot of stuff that boggles the mind in the game and it really challenges your assumptions in game mechanics.

There are a ton of great indie Metroidvanias out there too. You should check out Ghost 1.0. It was made by the same team that made UnMetal, a spoof game of Metal Gear. Both are very fun. If you have time, you should definitely give them a try. UnMetal had a funny ending to it too... dood!
