The more I watch this channel the more I realize why I love it. I too was a history major, got a huge backlog of books, and games, love playing with my kids. 4 of them too. We all go on nature walks and I approach my game playing decisions the same way... like I just decided to start playing FF15... I got about halfway through it when it came out now I've got the bug and I'm going to finish it. Next I'm thinking xenoblade chronicles 3. Which is a game I bought day one... and never got around to playing... but I love xenoblade 1 and 2 so much. I think I just knew I didn't have the time I was building a deck refinishing the basement etc... but now I've finished construction of my game room/music room and I'm going to take a week off from work and just hang out in there. Anyway, just wanted to say, love the channel I find we have a lot in common and perhaps that's why I keep tuning in as soon as I see the notification!
THANK YOU Clayton. I'm also going to take some time to hanging out with the kids, playing some guitar and singing and just really looking forward to chilling out. Maybe I'll post some more stuff to my channel we'll see. Been going non-stop at work and home for about two months now trying to get this room over the finish line and all my projects at completed. I'm also looking forward to more Content from you sir!@@ClaytonMorris
I did the math once on my backlog. I'm officially "middle aged", and assuming typical life expectancy, I do not have enough hours of life left to finish my whole backlog, even if I were to quit my job today and do nothing but play games for 12 hours a day. This was an extremely eye opening realization to me. I do not need to play everything, and life is too short to worry about it. I'm pickier about what games I pick up now, and I don't stress so much about needing to finish a game to get my money's worth. It's been a huge load lifted off my back.
Imo not really, cos tbh the games are getting bigger not better everything just further apart and less fun per moment lol plus the amount of new media being released is massive and burying all the decent quality stuff plus if say like me you were born in 90 there was 20yrs before i was born of games and some of the text adventures are pretty tricky and can kill hours exploring as well as all games coming out in future to add to the 'to do' list @Nobddy
Exactly and no time to wasted on bad games either, some people forces themself to play games that they not even enjoy. I like a lot jRPG's and many of those are 100+ hours long like Xenoblade, Persona, SMT, DarkSouls or the remakes of Final Fantasy. Sometimes I enjoy to replay it games like Souls games, I haven't finish Tears of Kingdom because I don't found it that engaging. But I can replay Resident Evil many times and I don't feel anxiaety for the games I know are good but I don't have even touch them or barely play them .(Skyrim, Fallout 3, Las Vegas, etc)
@Nobddy 20 years on steam and steadily adding games throughout, plus humble bundles. It really tends to add up. I also have a tall bookcase full of PS2, Xbox and Gamecube games.
To all the hardcore gamers out there, play as much as you can!! Work hard, take care of your responsibilities and family. Life is short and if playing is your thing as long as you don’t let it interfere with your daily activities that’s ok, I’m 43 married with 2 kids and have lots of games and consoles to enjoy what I like doing in my free time !
Lol, had the reverse experience. Saw the gaming channel and then he mentioned in one video that he had a news focused channel... immediately subscribed to both 😂.
I'm horrible at finishing games. I recently swallowed my pride and started playing my games on easy mode just to get through them faster. I think my main issue is that I always play on the hardest mode and the games take too long to play through. I've been enjoying easy mode and just flying through the games.
You know a friend of mine (who used to run one of the top tech websites) said he switched to easy mode for all his game play and hasn't lost any enjoyment. He told me this back in 2012 and it always stuck with me. I have started doing this from time to time to finish a level that I get stuck on.
@@ClaytonMorris I'm pretty good at Doom Eternal on Ultra Violence and that game takes me around 10 to 15 hours to beat. I played it on easy mode out of curiosity and I blew through the game in a few hours, it was insane, I only died a few times. It was surprising fun LOL
I started doing the same as well. My backlog is substantial enough and I want to get through them. It’s also fun to feel OP when I play my games even though I’m obviously taking the easier route to feel that way 😆
I started doing this as well against my old thinking. I just decided to stop playing souls games even though I like them just cause I can’t spend 3 hours just to get past one little area
Exactly! Finally someone who talks about backlogs with a calm level-headed approach. Backlogs should not be viewed as a problem. The problem is built into the name. Being a "log" of things that are hiding there "back" behind you, implies you must conquer this log of things so you don't have to feel like there's a growing monster ready to pounce on you. Gaming libraries are not monsters, they are not problems. They are libraries. Libraries are _meant_ to provide selection, not completion, and video games are no different as you've pointed out.
Seeing your collection is like walking into a well furnished used gaming store. A lot of nostalgia and realization that your just a dude like me who likes to game in his spare time.
And still people are complaining that there isn't good games anymore or that the industry is doomed. Literally I have so many games on my backlog, old and new; that no new games might not come out ever, and still not finish all my backlog. That doesn't happened 20 or 30 years ago. There are so many new games, AA games, indie games, AAA games that is imposible to keep up.
As someone that enjoys marathons I've been working through my backlog by doing franchise marathons. For me this generally means replaying a portion of the games that got me interested in the franchise in the first place while tackling games across all systems that I've never played. So far this year I've cleared 22 games from my backlog with 40 total games beaten.
For me, my crowded man cave, packed with most beloved titles of my 35 year gaming "career", which I am not able to complete in the rest of my life, give me a nice cosy feel. Because being always able to play whatever I like, especially also, no real good games releasing anymore nowadays. IMHO...
You've no money and lots of time when you're young, you've money and no time when you're an adult... Just scrolling through my Amiga collection. Feels like travelling through milky way
This advice is great. No pressure on any of it and accepting what you feel like enjoying and/or learning and keeping things organized so it feels manageable.
Intellectually it makes sense not to worry. Yet emotionally it can feel stressful having limited time and potentially spending time with a good game when you could be playing a better/great one. Then once you start it's hard to leave unfinished with no completion (unless it's awful). I struggle, and deciding next game is hard even with Backloggd. How to overcome the anxiety?
Just collecting games is part of the fun. Otherwise I usually cycle between around about 3-4 games on mood or genre. Games should just be about the fun of them and no need to overthink it. Great video!
I’m very much ocd.. I suspect a little autistic too.. I’m fairly obsessed with collecting especially when seeing sales or rare games available.. I tell myself if I can’t play now I’ll save for when I retire.. I mean I still have many ps1 & 2 games I haven’t seriously tackled yet
gaming has been my go-to for getting away from all this garbage in our world.... now they are going after games. about time to go play in the woods again.....
agreed... i may dig some old discs out from storage. most of those game i have already beaten. maybe i can re visit some of those titles.@@bmsuperstar1
Clayton, Great video! Great collection! I’m 51, very similar to you. It can be mood, it can be seasonal. I just like to be able to relax with a game, book, movie, etc. sometimes on my own, sometimes with family or friends. Hope your move goes well and thank you for these great videos!
I watched a lot of videos on backlogs and I have to say yours was the most down to earth and realistic. I have a huge backlog which along with the games I want to replay is about to eat me alive. This made me anxious. You made me realize I dont have to be anxious about something that I love and have fun with. Just go with the flow. And I believe the problem begins when people talk about their backlog. Its making it sound like a job. I see it more like a collection of a hobby I love since I was very young. So thank you for putting things in perspective.
Love your content Clayton.. have been a long time lurker of redacted and this is the first time of me verging upon your personal channel. I have backlog anxiety TO A POINT. I have a massive library though and often think I am lucky to have access to so many masterpieces and I allow my fantasy of whatever I can get lost in to drive my love for whatever I am playing or choosing. MMOS make this difficult though because of fomo of missing current content or trying to keep up with the content curve. I just turned 38 and grew up playing games with my dad and it was what allowed us to facilitate a closer bond. Video games are an extremely unrealied media that haven't gotten the credit they are due.. I hope with time I age into the level of zen you have at 47. I think it's truly brave how you ahve formed redacted and I deeply appreciate you as a person who has the cajones to be the change you see in the world.. Also seems like you ahve the patience of a saint with your co-anchor and truly are a loving husband and dad.
Another thing is that you don't need to beat every game you play. I collected the entire N64 PAL library and have played them all but I know I'm never going to beat them all... A lot of newer releases I'll pickup once they're on sale, play for a couple of hours and feel I've experienced enough of it and move on. I don't have an official backlog, if I don't get to a game I don't care. Maybe one day I will want to play that one game that's just sitting in the collection
98% of my games are backlog. I finished No Man's Sky, and a lot of beat em ups with invincibility, but I never plan on beating most of my games because I am a casual gamer who plays games depending on how I feel. My preference is physical games only and I have over one thousand physicals from the 1980s to the present.
I didn't realize others felt this way. I have a few favs like Snake's Revenge, Nier and Odin Sphere that I try to play at least once a year. And if I don't, I actual feel some sort of guilt. 😬
Irony is listening to Clayton talk about conquering backlogs while I'm combing Amazon for deals on old Xbox and X360 games cause I don't have a big enough backlog as it is 😂
Don't get too carried away! Lol. I still have my Halo 4 Xbox 360 console and about 80 games. I've probably only played 20ish. I'll be selling some off on fb or ebay soon. I definitely have some backlog anxiety. 😂
Same here I have a freakin back log of games that will last me till I die. 😂 I have a couple of games I ordered coming in this week from Amazon and best buy. I tell my self well I got a good deal on them I might as well get them B4 they go back to reg prices so my back log continues...😂
And the way I look at it is if I ever wanna sell my collection I’ll likely make double or triple what I spent on it. But I don’t ever intend to sell my collection. I’ll hand it down to my son and daughters. It’s the only thing that I spend money on, besides the necessities of life, my wife likes to buy expensive face lotions and shoes and I like to buy video games.
I saw Rocksmith and my gamexiety went off. I gotta get back on that to get my guitar skills back up. .but yeah in like late 90s, early 00s, you had to WAIT for an awesome game worth the $50 bucks. Sometimes months. And you'd get upset when a game only took 9 hours to beat, so you went back in and tried to beat every hardness level or find every Easter egg. Those days are gone. They come out with 200 hours of amazing games now for every 10 hours of free time you have. Can't ever get to any of it. Just gotta pick one solid one and focus or you won't even enjoy the full game that you're working on.
This is a great topic. I'm 49, two kids, two grandkids and busy with work and many hobbies including games, music, model building etc. I have a library of around 2,200 games and a few hundred books. My game backlog is around 800 and my book backlog is around 60 right now. I've spent so much time hunting every achievement in games I've made myself more overwhelmed than I should be, as I could probably complete 2-5 games in the time it takes to get every achievement in one. I'm trying to stop caring about them and just enjoying the games as they should be. It doesn't help that my wife, friends, and kids all play games also so we spend a lot of time playing online co-op games together, but that's something special to have too. Building spreadsheets so I can organize my games and books based on time to complete helps be prioritize what to do when I have the time.
Exactly the right approach. Being worried about a backlog is a sign games are becoming a job rather than a hobby. Take that energy and effort and put it into your real job, & save what energy’s left for fun hobby mood-driven moments.
I think it's a general middle aged gamer "issue". We have the money and enthusiasm to buy, so we keep buying and collecting. Unfortunately not enough time to play them all. My backlog is around 75 Switch games, still in seal, and about 30'ish ps4 games fresh in seal. I also have a few dozen of ps3 games I haven't even touched yet, and a few mini consoles with 100's of games combined which I haven't played yet. By the time I finished a handful of them, I'm sure I already bought a handful new ones as well.... Reality check: I'll never finish them all, and that's fine. The idea of having them also gives me a sense of fulfilment.
I like your take on how you game. Enjoying games at a leisure pace and playing what and when you want. It's so easy to get caught up in the hype of new game releases. And with so many releasing with such frequency these days compared to late 1900s early 2000s, there's not enough time in ANYONE'S day keep up with playing all the new games. I've been using IGN playlists to bookmark and log games as they're played/completed as it has some neat features (integrated reviews/walkthroughs, estimated how long to play counts, and sorting options, but will check out Backlogged. Thanks for the video and suggestions!
Y’all need to stop thinking of backlog gaming as some sort of anxiety. We’re already anxious about life already. Let’s not add gaming into the mix. 1) Turn that anxiety mindset into excitement. 2) Tune off from social media pressuring you on what’s hot right now in gaming. And before you know if your backlog is clearing up. Easy does it.
I started having backlog anxiety when i was already almost 200 hours into TOTK, but i kinda just stopped playing it and started playing a bunch of other games because i have a alot! I didn’t get far into any of the ones I’ve started but that’s ok, i play as long as i can have fun with it until i want to try something else. I recently got a PS3 and bought around 15 games for it so far, I’ve started playing inFamous, Prototype and Heavenly Sword and I’m mostly having a blast (mainly with the first two)
Probably the only way of catching up to an ever growing backlog is by not completing most of the games. You can sort of try them out, experience them for an hour or two. You can see what they have to offer, and only finish the ones that you really, really enjoy, the ones that grab you to your core. If you have a backlog of RPGs, and like me you are mentally ill in the sense that you have to 100 percent each and every one - you might as well come to terms with the fact that you're not finishing those in your lifetime. I'll never stop playing though, as long as I have my sight at least, but it's getting more and more difficult to find the time for my favorite hobby. I wish I could have access to an alternate dimension where the time freezes, and I could simply enjoy all the content I love without it affecting my private life. Maybe some day...Here's hoping. 🤞
I agree with that. I remember reading a Stephen King book called on writing years ago and he talked about why you should never finish books that don’t grab you. It’s the same thing with games however I do find that I only buy games that I’ve done a lot of research on, and historically have a lot of draw for me.
@@ClaytonMorris That certainly sounds more reasonable than just piling them up relentlessly. Love the game room, by the way. I never got to realize mine, but I will someday.
@@ClaytonMorris I didn't know you were into video games like that. You never talked about your gaming hobby on redacted, so I had no idea. My backlog will come in handy when gaming goes all digital. I refuse to purchase the digital crap that I do not own.
loving the awesome metroid prime music in the background man! Keep up the great content! 100 percent agree with your overall attitude toward backlogs too. Noticed you have a robot named fight in your switch collection too! What a beautiful physical edition of a great game!
Nailed it! Mad respect for this I've always just picked a game an ran with out no other game mattered until i was satisfied with it most cases I spend 3-4 months on the average game unless its live service with constant updates and changes but mostly stick with good story games.
It is a real problem but one I have dealt with finally in recent years. I accepted the fact I am a terrible gamer and will clear next to nothing. I accepted that I bought way too many games and even if I was a really good gamer it would be tough to get through all I have. I am glad I am over all this as it made worse my debilitating anxiety. Anyway thanks for sharing what you do and happy gaming to you.
Thank you for looking into Palestina bro. Here’s a list (if you haven’t already checked them out): 1. Palestine: A Four Thousand Year History by Nur Masalha 2. Revealing the History of Ancient Palestine: Changing Perspectives by Keith W. Whitelam 3. The Invention of Ancient Israel: The Silencing of Palestinian History by Keith W. Whitelam 4. The Ethnic Cleansing of Palestine by Ilan Pappé 5. Ten Myths About Israel by Ilan Pappé 6. The Holocaust Industry: Reflections on the Exploitation of Jewish Suffering by Dr. Norman Finkelstein
Your Thought process on playing your games is the exact way I have been tackling my games. My brother has this weird artificial, crippling fomo Because they are all single player games. He will start a game and then completely drop it to play the next new game.. the game he drops is still considered a new game too. I'm 37 for reference
Just buy the games you actually want to play and you never have "backlog anxiety" (which in my opinion is a first world problem people shouldn't cry about) and your collection gets better because there's no filler stuff. There's no reason to have games just for the sake of having them. My game collection is only about 250 games big (well, it was bigger in the past, but that's the point), but my backlog is 3 games deep. It's just like collecting any other form of media, my record collection is 1467 albums big, but there's not even one album i have just to own it, my music "backlog" is four albums deep. Same with my book collection, I've read all of the ~300 books i own and wouldn't go out to get books just for the sake of having them. If i had a big movie collection it would probably be the same.
@@ClaytonMorris I mean you brought up a very similar point with FF VII Rebirth. There's a time for everything, when I don't have the time for a game I just don't get it immediately just to put a product on my shelf at home, I can still get it in the future after all.
@@vargsieber exactly and by the time that I buy it, it’ll be much cheaper. Now there are certain games that I know were going out of print so I picked those up because I didn’t want to have to pay twice the cost for them on eBay and I definitely want to play those games, like certain limited run JRPGs from Japan.
@@ClaytonMorris those limited editions are always a reasonable exception, I know that especially from collecting music where sometimes those limited editions can be extremely limited. I got into collecting music on tape in addition to vinyl about 2 years ago and there's stuff that's only limited to 30-50 hand numbered copies.
@@ClaytonMorris by the way, I've watched a few other of your videos now (was the first time seeing one fo your videos), you have my sub now, it's rare to find an actual journalist who likes videos games and isn't a woke sjw snowflake.
I fell behind about 10-15 years due to college and medical school/residency/family, having played mostly PS1 RPGs in the 90s when they were first released, and some PS2 and Dreamcast games. When I finally got back to gaming it was exciting to play through the PS3 era games for the first time in 2019 when everyone had long since moved on. I’m up to PS4 and switch now, but not in a hurry to move up for a while.
That’s great. I just started building a PS3 collection at the end of 2023. That was the only PlayStation console that I never owned so it’s been fun to go back and explore some of those games that never made it over to modern consoles.
I have a closet filled with my games. I decided to put them all away around a year ago and pull only what I need to play, around 2 to 3 games per system. The goal behind the method is to keep all my games out of sight and mostly out of mind. It's helped out quite a bit as the stress is only centered on what I have pulled.
Here's how to get over it cause I used to be this way aswel a little bit. You only have so much time, if you tried to play every good game ever you would do nothing else. Pick and choose what you want to play. I'm currently In the boat of finishing up totk and persona 5 then to get my hands on baldurs gate 3. Looking forward to it.
I couldn't have summed up gaming anxiety any better. Moods. Do I feel like dying a lot, do I want a story, do I just want to go for a drive. Yes indeed, your current mood will show you the way.
I just play whatever I feel like in between new releases that I'm excited about. For example, I'm playing through Zelda Minish Cap on GBA right now. It holds up great
One of the most thoughtful videos about this amazing hobby/entertainment. You get my sub. I hate how folks give in to all that FOMO over new releases. For instance I recently got Dragons Dogma 1 on sale for the Nintendo Switch and once I get through that one, I might pick up the sequel (once its on sale and patched up). I feel that backlog anxiety on occasion, even making a list of games is a huge effort also having 500+ games on PC (also emulation), a few dozen on Switch and a few on PS3... I have just accepted that I won't be able to get through 90% of my games in my lifetime which is okay, I am lucky to have had the opportunity to collect so many games over the years without even resorting to piracy. Spoilt for choice is the correct term here. What a time to be alive!
Longtime Redacted fan. I appreciate your new channel and the refreshing take you have on gaming. Keep up the great work on both channels! Also, excellent music choice. Personal favorite OST of all time.
This is a great video! I also base the game I want to play by my mood. I like to have a variety of different games from all genres and decades that I can pick up and play wherever I have time. Keep up the great content on all of your channels!
Great topic for sure about dealing with a huge backlog! Like some others here, i'm guessing i'm not alone in saying i'm hundreds of titles spanning multiple generations now behind that i hope to somehow get to play! My main issue is I code small indie games as my a hobby and keep convincing myself i'll reward myself by finally playing something like Metroid Dread or Zelda TOTK once my latest project is done. Then i'm off to another project and end up missing another system generation. I love the suggestions you made in this video and i think this is what i needed to finally peal the shrink wrap off my copy of Metroid Dread! thanks for the advice!
Awesome Clayton, love redacted but happy to know you got some hobbies. I've been playing games for twenty yrs but finally decided to take up some new hobbies like exercise and reading more.😊😊
I think about this topic a lot, today there are just way too many games on the market and I don't know if that is a good thing. I personally prefer how it was in the 80's and 90's, where there were not so many games and everyone played the same games. There was something about playing games that everyone was playing around the same time. This is the same reasoning why I always like to buy games when they first come out when everyone is playing the game. There is a good feeling to be playing at these times. Hard to explain.
I don’t have a gaming backlog, I have a gaming library, just like with book libraries, it’s literally impossible to read EVERY singke book in a library. That’s how I approach my games collection, knowing that I won’t be able to finish all the games I own but also enjoy the fact that I’ve got games to suit whatever mood I’m in.
What has helped me is adding all of my games to HLTB. I ended up with over 2,500 games. All across OG Xbox and Playstation 1 and PC, up to Nintendo Switch, XSX, and PS5. A bunch of older games tool. Now that I have a well organized log of the games I own, I pick a game or series at random and start playing them. The Steam Deck has been Amazing for playing games in my backlog. The older I get, the less time I have to sit at my desk and game. Especially after sitting at a PC at work. I use to play PVE and PVP games for hours with friends online and LOVED it. But I wasn't really playing through my log. I'm older too(48), and when I retire, I plan on gaming and streaming, mostly for fun, and getting through more games. I still LOVE a good PVE and Teamwork based PVP game, even though they take up a lot of time and don't help with the backlog.
i recently made a list for games to play 2024 over 12 months, my backlog is ps3, ps2 and classic pc games.. im saving a ton of money this year, excited for the year..
So many of my PC games I picked up really cheap. I've got my favorites that I can play over and over, like DCS World, Arma III, Ready or Not, Race Room and others. But, the majority that I have are, like you said, based on mood. It's my own personal arcade. Back in the 80s and part of the 90s, it was rare to finish a game in the arcades. Customers played what they were in the mood for in that moment to relax and have a good time. Achievements were not a thing but a high score. So, I have my "arcade" titles and I have my dedicated titles that I never stop enjoying.
I've watched you and your wonderful wife on Redacted for years only to stumble on this channel recently and I'm happy that I have. Btw thanks for the response. Have a great day!
Through wanting to get platinum trophies in games you really like especially games that need multiple playthroughs or huge worlds like skyrim or witcher 3. Still working on sekiro platinum.
I had anxiety in this area a little bit. But over the past year or so I’ve been doing very well at picking up the pace on decreasing my back log of games. Like for example I’m probably 1 game away on my schedule to finally playing FF10.
I'm limiting myself to buying two or three games a year. My backlog isn't massive, but I also like to platinum games so that makes getting through them way more time-consuming.
I have so many thoughts it's hard to pick one kinda like sifting through the games I wanna get to. So, I'm gonna provide two short thoughts here. When it comes to books that have been sitting there for a while, you just blow the dust off and get reading. With games, you gotta take care of your consoles. Crack em open and service them cuz time flies and it might be 10 years before you complete your backlog but eventually you will get to them. I like the mood advice but I don't really play games that go back further than my childhood. That kinda keeps the backlog to a minimum. I was born in 92 & for me, gaming started on n64, ps1, xbox, etc.. So, I don't play stuff older than that unless its a remaster and it's a franchise that I fell in love with on later console generations.
I’ve been having a Backlog issue but in my past I use to buy a game and play it. So I’m more feeling like I’d like to return to the days I buy a game and play it and not add games to some sort of collection. I also look at my backlog as some sort of issue with how I handle my finances so I’m hoping to wield my backlog in an attempt to be better at handling my funds. But this video really caught my eye because I want to turn my backlog into games I played, go back to buying games to play and not buying them so I can have them later on to play.
I've had a midlog problem for most of my adult life. I grab onto one long enough to discover the core mechanics, basic story whatever, then something else catches my eye and yoink, I'm gone. Started forcing myself to stick to a game in 2024, so far have completed a few games alternating from "retro"(on crt) to "modern"(on modern display)
I just look at my backlog as an amazing library that I have access to so I am spoilt for choice when I am looking for a game to play. I don't even really see it as a negative.
With over thirty thousand games sitting in my Steam library I'll need at least a couple dozen more lives to finish them all. Accruing them is a game in itself. I'd suggest just skipping the part where you add them to a spreadsheet, it would take too much time away from actually playing.
@@ClaytonMorris You'd end up with a ton of duplicate game releases for different systems. And it would be an absolute pain to wade through the loads of titles just to get to the good ones, even if there are excellent filtering options available. Nevermind the legality of it all and the supposed sponsoring of piracy. Also, I wouldn't want you to put yourself in a position where you'd potentially be liable for damages due to "loss of legitimate sales" (Yuzu anyone?).
I agree with a lot of what you’re saying. Choice paralysis is real. I’ve personally been there a bunch of times. One of the reasons I don’t have Gamepass or PlayStation Plus (extra or premium). I also don’t have movie subscription services either except for Prime but I hardly ever use it. I only have it for the shipping. This is why I’m an advocate for physical media because I can at least sell my collection if I choose to size down. With a digital collection it’s much different.
I've been stuck to Elite dangeous and Death Stranding for ages, the constant repair of structures in Death Stranding is just that, constant. As for Elite Dangerous I've seen about 1% of the galaxy. I've been playing Elite for at least 2000 hours. The days of slapping in a Genesis cartridge and finishing the game in an hour are gone, I used to buy lots of short games and now I don't. One good thing about short games is you got to finish them.
I've been buying way more games than I can even play. I love collecting. I look at them as tv shows now. Meaning I don't have to beat a game all at once I can beat a few chapters or levels and pick it up later. Like tv episodes.
I greatly appreciate Gris being on display, my favorite playable art piece! And honestly, I feel more urgency for my backlog due to it being almost entirely digital and with the trend towards lack of physical ownership. The mood part is so true as well. I woke up one morning and just randomly decided that I want to play a rhythm game. That led to a quick playthrough of one of my favorite rhythm games to date, Thumper!
Who says you have to beat all of them, or even any? You could just play a bit of each one and then you can at least say you've played them all, and you'll find all your favorites that way too. I have thousands of games and only beat a couple dozen of them throughout the years, but have played MANY of them, and I have NO regrets regarding them.
I have ADHD when it comes to video games. I started Playing The Last of Us and when I got to the part with the horses, I had the urge to play Red Dead Redemption II and then when I was playing that game it reminded me of GTA 5, so then I started playing GTA 5 and then I got the Majora's Mask for Christmas so I started playing that and then I randomly had an urge to play Tomb Raider and now I'm playing Resident Evil 8. Ahahaha
My man. I have similar issues, but mine is mostly about me liking many different genres. I like RPGs, I like sports games, I like 2D platformers, I like action games, I like puzzle games, I like 3rd person shooters...It's kind of discouraging when I think about how many titles I have yet to play.
Thanks so much Peter. Sounds like we have a ton in common. Enjoy that new game room you built! And enjoy Xenoblade 3.
I just love that Clayton has a side project sharing his enthusiasm for gaming
man....praise be to your understanding wife that yes, gaming is a way to relax and disconnect for a bit. That's a rare thing.
My wife is the same way
Next time somebody tells you gaming is for kids or losers tell them Elon & Clayton are gamers. Both are big thinkers & out of the box revolutionaries.
You are a very kind person. Thank you for your compliment.
I've watched you a lot on Redacted but had absolutely no idea you were so into gaming. I was NOT expecting this! So weird and awesome!! 😂😂😂
Lol, had the reverse experience. Saw the gaming channel and then he mentioned in one video that he had a news focused channel... immediately subscribed to both 😂.
If having a backlog of games is a problem, you have no problem.
100000%
Too true
TRUTH!
I have some backlog too but I've been having so much fun that I don't see it as a problem. Played Alisia Dragoon on Sega today and its just awesome!
Yeah. What he said
I'm horrible at finishing games.
It’s also fun to feel OP when I play my games even though I’m obviously taking the easier route to feel that way 😆
@@Cloudiroth123 My biggest backlog is my Game Cube, PS2 and classic PC games. Some of those games are really hard!
I started doing this as well against my old thinking. I just decided to stop playing souls games even though I like them just cause I can’t spend 3 hours just to get past one little area
Man we all never knew you were a Gamer Clayton! love it!
Nice gaming collection Clayton. Like the gaming room also😎
Much appreciated
Gives this man a beer
For me, my crowded man cave, packed with most beloved titles of my 35 year gaming "career", which I am not able to complete in the rest of my life, give me a nice cosy feel. Because being always able to play whatever I like, especially also, no real good games releasing anymore nowadays. IMHO...
You've no money and lots of time when you're young, you've money and no time when you're an adult...
Just scrolling through my Amiga collection. Feels like travelling through milky way
I dont think theres enough games that are worth playing but the good ones get hammered forever .
Thats a gamer specialist
This advice is great. No pressure on any of it and accepting what you feel like enjoying and/or learning and keeping things organized so it feels manageable.
Phendrana Drifts in the background...
A man of culture, I see.
Getting a steam deck has helped me a lot with cutting my backlog list .
You have plenty of games unaffected by the woke BS. Sucks if you like to play new games though.
agreed... i may dig some old discs out from storage. most of those game i have already beaten. maybe i can re visit some of those titles.@@bmsuperstar1
Same here. I’m playing great games I’ve been meaning to get to, some I’m doing another playthrough
In that order 😢
doing dying light 2... first playthru... been awesome so far. @@bmsuperstar1
Irony is listening to Clayton talk about conquering backlogs while I'm combing Amazon for deals on old Xbox and X360 games cause I don't have a big enough backlog as it is 😂
Nothing wrong with that. Enjoy the hunt!
@@ClaytonMorris it's half the fun of collecting.
@@ClaytonMorris
I didn't know you were into video games like that. You never talked about your gaming hobby on redacted, so I had no idea. My backlog will come in handy when gaming goes all digital. I refuse to purchase the digital crap that I do not own.
@@russellmania5349 He mentioned it couple of times, though very briefly.
loving the awesome metroid prime music in the background man!
Great to see you talking my favorite hobby - gaming. I remembered you on Fox and guest on Leo Laporte’s tech shows
It is a real problem but one I have dealt with finally in recent years.

Wow, thanks
Your Thought process on playing your games is the exact way I have been tackling my games. My brother has this weird artificial, crippling fomo Because they are all single player games. He will start a game and then completely drop it to play the next new game.. the game he drops is still considered a new game too. I'm 37 for reference
I dont call it backlog or pile of shame , for me its the pile of joy. As long as i have a backlog there is always a game i want to play
Love that.
This is very helpful. Thank you Clayton.
This collection is insane, wow. Blown away
Love that idea.
Wow, nice place!
Mario sunshine is a game I need to beat annually. Every summer🥲
The fact that you have this channel brings me hilarious amounts of joy. I didn't think you could get any cooler.
Here I was wrong 😂😂😂
That’s very kind of you.
I have a closet filled with my games. I decided to put them all away around a year ago and pull only what I need to play, around 2 to 3 games per system. The goal behind the method is to keep all my games out of sight and mostly out of mind. It's helped out quite a bit as the stress is only centered on what I have pulled.
Appreciate you giving this perspective
Here's how to get over it cause I used to be this way aswel a little bit.
You only have so much time, if you tried to play every good game ever you would do nothing else. Pick and choose what you want to play. I'm currently In the boat of finishing up totk and persona 5 then to get my hands on baldurs gate 3. Looking forward to it.
Sick collection man!
I couldn't have summed up gaming anxiety any better. Moods. Do I feel like dying a lot, do I want a story, do I just want to go for a drive. Yes indeed, your current mood will show you the way.
Woah!
That backlog anxiety part was surprisingly inspirational.
Going through a “quarter-life crisis” currently
Been there. I remember my quarter life crisis too.
Exactly. I'm going to play Dragons Dogma one on PS3 first and maybe I'll get to to 2 at some point.
Longtime Redacted fan. I appreciate your new channel and the refreshing take you have on gaming. Keep up the great work on both channels!
Also, excellent music choice. Personal favorite OST of all time.
I noticed that for me I wasted a lot of time on social media. So I deleted my FB and IG and put more time into gaming, now I'm getting shit done.
Oh yeah if you delete those apps your life will improve dramatically. I never use them.
This is a great video! I also base the game I want to play by my mood. I like to have a variety of different games from all genres and decades that I can pick up and play wherever I have time. Keep up the great content on all of your channels!
Thanks so much.
With the way entertainment is heading, everyone needs a quality backlog right now.
Respect! It’s awesome to see what your hobbies are!
I had no idea about this side of you. It makes me appreciate you more. Just subscribed
This is like a parody of people with serious debilitating anxiety 😂
Thanks for sharing your opinion on backlog. You are correct, gaming should be fun, not an anxiety inducing hobby.
Much respect for showing BLUR in the thumbnail, one of the best racing games ever.
Awesome Clayton, love redacted but happy to know you got some hobbies. I've been playing games for twenty yrs but finally decided to take up some new hobbies like exercise and reading more.😊😊
That is awesome!
glad to see someone that has more games still in shrink wrap than me! 😂
I enjoy your content on this channel. Keep it up Clayton
Thanks so much.
You know what the used to call man caves?
Libraries.
Before I watch this, I think best thing for me to do, to get rid of backlog anxiety, would be to sell all my games. 😭
But this video really caught my eye because I want to turn my backlog into games I played, go back to buying games to play and not buying them so I can have them later on to play.
i don't worry about my big backlog cuz i know once gaming goes all digital i'll be done with modern gaming and then i'll focus on my backlog
That's awesome collection
With over thirty thousand games sitting in my Steam library I'll need at least a couple dozen more lives to finish them all. Accruing them is a game in itself. I'd suggest just skipping the part where you add them to a spreadsheet, it would take too much time away from actually playing.
30,000 holy smokes. I’ve been looking at getting one of the extreme arcade systems and that has ever game ever made so I might be in a similar boat
In the West: Backlog game anxiety
In Africa: Not getting eaten by a lion while having to walk 30 miles for a bucket of water anxiety.
Hahahaha I relate to this since I have adhd
