Keep up the great work! I can’t imagine how hard it is to make videos on top of being a doctor (and having such awful and inappropriate comments sometimes).

You are so right. Got stuck in the urology ward at the Portsmouth Naval Hospital in Virginia. The entire ward was full of kids with Epididymitis. I was in there with a varicocele. I had it ligated the old fashioned way. A nerve block. Then an incision about 5-6 inches long. Then the doctor tied off the spermatic vein. The only problem I had was I had to urinate within 12 hours or they would do the catheter thing. Next day I woke up with a massive headache.

I read a study that said women doctors are WAY more likely to find something than a male counter part. From some someone who has had both it was true

What is the deal with hernia mesh?
I had an inguinal hernia repaired with mesh 10 years ago and it has not really been a problem.
Now I see all the scary lawyer commercials about it.
Do I have to worry about it becoming a problem and if it is, what is the treatment?

Dr. Malik. Don't you think these shows do a bit of a disservice to the public when they air shows that are largely misrepresentations of the Medical realities and then, someone, such as yourself, must 'Set the record straight' as to the way things REALLY are, and get done, in a Hospital? Too much of this seems like silly comic "fluff" and nothing you can really believe.

Yes absolutely! In fact I have a research group studying this exact issue right now.

Average number of viewers tuning into Grey's Anatomy each week, 5.93 million...the empirical would suggest that most viewers believe the show to reflect an accurate portrayal of how medicine is practiced today---other shows show the same uniform approach to male urological issues---so it must be true---providing men with reasons and rationales of why examination and treatment is to be avoided, and permission for women to be entertained ---Resident even shoos away gawkers with the admonishment that the patient is not a sideshow....(now this is entertainment!) Gotta' run--have seen this show before...appreciate your efforts but you are sweeping sand against the tide. Your setting the record straight reaches a fraction of national shows audiences.

Speaking of avoiding the doctor, once I had an infected fingernail that caught on everything. I removed it with pliers and a screwdriver. This didn't help. My fingernail grew back in its infected state. I ended up going to a doctor anyway. All that pain was for nothing.

has this show ever had a male patient for anything other than a genital problem that is invariably treated by a female Dr.? men don't go because they are embarrassed- huh- imagine that when male urological problems are routinely played for laughs by this show.

it's not just that, in general sexual assault agains men is seen as funny. From the he is going to jail jokes, to men being hit in the groin. It's the norm. It's what you can expect from a society where books about hating men are bestsellers. One can cry or one can understand it's the zeitgeist, seek help if needed, read and vote accordingly.
