This video is an absolute gem. I'm not a therapist but I'm a private tutor and I've really been trying to figure out how to tell the parents of the children I tutor that I'm raising my rates. Thank you.
This is just what I need! I have been raising my rates for new clients about once a year but have been afraid to do so for established clients and this year I decided I’m going to bring those clients inline with my new 2021 rate. I really like the idea of a 90 day grace period and the way you worded it. Besides increasing overhead costs, I think we need to remember that our increasing skills and knowledge become more valuable also! I really appreciate your content - and also that you speak from experience of the market in the Silicon Valley area.
I’m so glad I found this. I am a petsitter who hasn’t raised rates in 13 years for my services, with the exception of overnight stays, which I increased last year from $50 to $60 per night. My business took a huge hit during Covid and hasn’t recovered. so I’m gathering info on how to increase rates for existing clients. I believe much of what you said is applicable to other personal service sectors who work one-on-one like myself.
How much is too much to go up for existing clients? I have raised rates yearly for new clients but not existing clients. Now there is such a gap and I need to raise the rates due to increases in everything! Thanks
Thank you so much for all your help in helping educating and empowering all of the therapists in the world. You are amazing and I have learned so much from you. Best wishes to you and thanks again.
Do you lose many clients when you raise your rates? I've heard from several experienced therapists that it's really difficult to raise rates. Any input on this? Your channel has been so helpful. Thank you.
I haven't had that issue! I tend to raise my rates about once a year by $10-$15 per csession, and I haven't had anyone drop off as a result. On occasion, some clients may choose to reduce the frequency of sessions (e.g., 4 times a month to 3), but it's still an overall increase in pay. I could imagine if someone made a bigger jump (like $120 a session to $200 a session), You'd likely lose a fair amount of clients. But even then, you may still come out ahead in your paycheck. It depends on how you want to go about doing it!
There's no answer that could apply to everyone. Decide where you need to be. You can run calculations, you can evaluate your finances and make an assessment of what's best for your financial and emotional security. Don't worry about by how much it's changing. It doesn't matter if your prices were WAY too low or just a little less... whoever needs to hear this... raise them to what works for you and educate yourself why the consequences you anticipate don't do anything but hold you back.
I am a private chef and I have a client I cook for weekly, she only pays $60 plus weekly grocery cost due to miscommunication and I have been too scared to change it, but $60…for my whole day, grocery shopping, and travel. And containers. I can’t continue to do that, but I am terrified. In the contract we signed, it did not say prices are inclined to change, soo am I screwed 😅
Hi, the link to your sample increase letter does not work, it sends you to an unsecured site so unless you want to chance getting your personal info stolen, you can’t view the sample letter
Uh oh! The site is working for me. Feel free to give this link a try: mailchi.mp/35db7417d988/sample-rate-increase-letter-to-clients?rfsn=4810182.eff115&subid=knyxlq7nvq0002cl0ntyp if that doesn't work, feel free to send me an email: marie@privatepracticeskills.com
Any advice on how to notify clients that you're raising your rates even though you just started as a result of your fear and lack of knowledge but now being educated because you finally found @Private Practice Skills? 🤦🏾♀️ Lol
😅Oh my! Well, there's no bad time to raise your rates! You don't necessarily have to explain to clients why you're raising your rates. But, if you're concerned it's too soon, you could potentially charge a higher rate for all new clients, and let your existing clients know that your rate change won't apply to them for a little while (I've done this with three months notice, but it's completely up to you!). That way you see the difference immediately, your clients have a bit of heads up, and they also know they're getting a deal because your rate has gone up for everyone else. Totally up to you - you can also just go ahead and raise rates across the board if you wish - it's your business!
I'm a business and tax consultant working from Italy. I can tell your explanation is very effective and it goes right to the point. I'd like to collaborate with you in the future. Feel free to pm me. Ps. Excellent content

I'm a nail tech and this actually helped me with increasing my prices.
That makes me so happy! I think these tips do apply to all of us running our own business. Best wishes to you!

Thank you and , this will help me writing my letter to one of my company whose rate I did not increase for 13 years
I'm glad i'm not the only one to do that!
Would love a video on how to tell a client, or clients, that you need to change your schedule.
I’m totally with you on that!!!

What are appropriate increments to raise rates?

Love this video
Can a rate for therapy include taxes? I noticed my nail tech does and it made me think.
Thank you❤️
