I've been waiting for somebody to make this video. My ground spiral is roughly where her's is right now and I've been playing with it on and off for a while now. That session in the sand is what I needed. Thank you
I've done a different video some months ago when I was practicing it for the first time and only managed to get it properly once. Practicing on a slope, like a takeoff, is quite a bit easier but potentially more dangerous. Hope to do another video on it when once we've actually nailed it. Thanks for watching dude
Super impressed to see how far Gemma has come in so little time! Might not have got this perfect but you weren't far off and the progress has been simply amazing!
I think the part of the trick which hasn't been explained well is the "flight back". In most of her attempts, she has too much brakes when wing is reversed and it's messy stalled. First you pierce the stall with on break, then you release it to reach the flightback position, and the outside brakes goes down to that position, which keeps the glider off the ground, then you release outside as you said. To master the ground heli (which I can't do properly myself with a full size Xc wing yet :( ) she needs to practice her flightback on the ground, see how much imput she has to put in. Good luck ;)
Fair comments Leo, after the session when I was editing it and watching the footage I had some questions about my explanation too. I think I need to spend some more time on it to get it really good with small and bit wings and then do a follow up video on it :)
@@AndreBandarra1 I kind of deducted from your explanation (and trying to visualize during the subsequent attempts) that the other brake input was to keep it off the ground in flyback; but could have been more straightforward indeed :p
Great stuff. Amazing improvement since the first week. I'd like to see you trying the A's and C's launch to see if you have any useful insight on that as it's what I'm working on at the moment.
Please, Gemma and Andre, would you please explain us what´s the difference between a speedwing ( ski and fligh) or a miniwing in their behabiour? Thankyou a lot!
Awesome work Gemma !!!! This is the only ground handling challenge I have yet to complete and after really watching the move's Andre makes when hes doing it, it really makes sense to me ... kinda like a dance move in each position the gliders in with smooth transitions ...he even moves his hips too ..... anyhow great work both of you 😉👍 I know Geti g has a How to ground Heili and misty twist on RUclips and it's good to see the steps from different people, perspectives, as well as gliders.. I'll post a video of me failing at it once the weather breaks out here and winds are up 😎👍
Ahhhh, I can relate. I am at the similar stage she’s at during the end of her session. So frustrating to not get that last 180 degree turn consistently and further off the ground. We’ll just keep practicing, using Geti G’s explanation and loads of practice.
So the weird thing about this channel, is that I can watch video's multiple times spread over time and don't mind! It's great! Don't have that with other channels
This video is over a year old now so might not help you. But to anyone else watching it may. If you are trying to learn a ground heli I suggest mastering backfly kiting first. This means being able to spin your wing to backfly, kiting it there for as long as you want, being able to catch wakes, and then turn it back over when you want. Doing this will progressively teach you about how much brake to pull so you don't pull too much, and about how to use your weight shift properly. Then go back to learning a ground heli and it will be much easier.
She is awesome. I am a little bit depressed how quickly she goes forward. :-) I have to book some trip somewhere with coastal laminar wind. Training once a while, in semi-turbulent continental condition and I will be forever GH-beginer :-D Is it possible that with bigger wing you have more momentum and when you initiate spin it is easier to finish it. Seed is light so it stops spinning quickly, what do you think?
I've tried it with 3 wings of different sizes and I think the bigger the wing the more inertia it has and the harder it is to get it spinning fast. But also it reacts slower so you have more time to think and do the correct inputs
I’ve just been trying this on my seed before watching this video. Hopefully this will help. I keep slamming leading edge halfway through. Poor old seed has had some hammer! It’s back fly part keeping off ground I’m not quite there yet
Great to hear it’s getting some good use Emma! Another exercise that might help is to try just the back fly part. Turn your glider upside down and try to keep it off the group just with the brakes. The sweet spot is hard to hit and it’s almost never stable, so keeping it in the air upside down is a constant battle and usually requires very fast and big inputs on the brakes. Think about keepy uppies on a football, you always have to work hard to keep from dropping the ball. Hope it helps!
Little video editing tip, keep the music and the video audio the same volume, every time a new video starts the whole house rumbles. Love your videos though, keep it up.
Oi andre, vi que voce e portugues, entao acho que vai me entender, hehe fico muito feliz pelo site Groundhandlingchallenge e vou tentar praticar todos os passos e gravar minha evolucao abraco!
Wow! A MISSY GEMMA HELICO.,HAY all these videos have shown me that not only ground control is an issue, but how much your feet naturally become a big part of control.Very good video today. Not to interupt your show but I found a slow motion Tutorial that may help.FORGET THE HELI PART TOO SERIOUS. IT is" How to Ground heli & misty landing". I watched your 360 video from the past and I already know you can do the 360.Hope it helps a bit.Bye Guys!
According to Geti G and Max Martini, which are very good at it, they say it plays a big part (as in twisting your hips) I just haven't figured it out myself yet :) more practice needed
How about something "practical"? Getting the sand out of your glider with gravity using the techniques here? i.e. flying it upside down and then returning to "normal"

Have a look at GetiG's video, he refers to the size of wing.

Wing for sale. No ground handling, no beach. Always concertina folded.
Skippie can you do the 360?
@@AndreBandarra1 I've never tried Andre. I'd give it a try though if I had a suitable wing for it. Keep up the vids, loving them!
Skippie if you want to try it one day you can borrow my Seed ;)
email?
Still available???
Good afternoon to you both over in Portugal, thanks for the fun video, it looked like you tried for a few hours. Great stuff see you in the am.

Two thumbs up..........keep at it...............................you will get it!
Lovely jobely. Love it 😍
Good video. but what does this 360 exercise is for specifically? why do you do this? is it for landing? Thanks.

Good point Idan. I do think learning how to control the glider in reverse first definitely helps ;-p

On my bucket list for sure!
It’s hard to get the right conditions here in western Arkansas, USA. 🤔
Nice video. What kind of wing is that?
it's a groundhandling wing, BGD Seed
@@AndreBandarra1 which size? 14?
I did a 360 by accident once! Can't wait for better WX going to try Misty

I'm curious as to how weight shift plays into this.

First time ... what a baasturd. 😂😂😂
Approximately 2:30 thru 5:00 for lovely little instructional sand drawings.
Why and when do you need that?
So you know what to do when sh*t hits the fan. Oh and also to get sand out of your wing :D
Okay saw the title. If she pulls this off I friggin quit!!! :)
Easier for Andre he was taller and kept his arms higher. Try standing on a box and it will miss the floor :-)
Funnily enough, on a sloped takeoff it's easier but there is less ground clearance. Can't get my head around that one
Maybe wind on sloped takeoff helps keeping the wing up ?

I think Andre your drawing is not correct; if you pull the right side brake, the wing turns counterclockwise

Uhgg.. another ground handling video..:(
Paul von Düsseldorf the clue is in the title mate. You don't have to watch the videos you know, it's optional :)
I do like your videos. And yes I have to watch them because I subscribed and pressed that bell :)
Appreciate it, but really... you don't have to :P
Yay! Another ground handling video!
