    It's time to countdown the ten least fun commanders! We have done the ten most fun commanders in the past, and wanted to provide a bit of the opposite end of the spectrum and let you guys know what we think are the worst commanders to play against, the most hated commanders to see from across the table. You see these cards and groan a little internally, or maybe externally too. These can be some of the hardest commanders to beat, and as a result some of them have become the most disliked commanders. Either way, this list is all in good fun and is only our opinion! Enjoy!

    We have a friend in our EDH group who is notorious for rage quitting if you interact with his board. His Narset rage quit takes the cake. He cast Narset and it got board wiped. Next turn he cast it again and I blew it up with Jund Charm XD. He packed up immediately and left. There is no balance to that commander. If we leave it up for one turn he wins. I don't know what he expects.

      I've had to recast Zur for over 10 mana I think, in a 1v1 game... Certain commanders are not going to be allowed to do their thing, because that 'thing' generally results in them either winning or gaining huge advantage. If you run that sort of commander, you need to be ready to be hated out sometimes, just like the suckers playing have to accept they have a higher than normal chance of losing unpleasantly.

      I don't shame anyone's wincons, since it's a game where you play to win and can use whatever cards that are legal to use. That in mind, don't get upset when you get hated from the game because of that. I play commanders such as Gitrog and Augustin because I like combos and control, but I understand that I will get hate and I deserve it. Others want to win as well and I try my best to stop them from doing that.

    My derevi deck is actually a dumb bird tribal deck lol. I basically cast birds, try to do damage with my little birbs, then untap the lands and cast more. It goes off often but I never feel like its oppresive. Plus I usually run little-to-no removal sinceI have more fun watching friends go crazy rather than winning.

      Bit late to reply but I feel the exact same way. I hate running infinite combos in my decks because most of the time I just win in turn 4 or 5. And that's not fun for me or my friends. I'd rather play some janky ass deck that takes 10 turns to win because that way my friends get to play with their decks too. It's not just about me winning, they should win too. That's what the game is about. Having fun. And if no ones having fun, then what's the point

  • @proxygaming3182
    @proxygaming3182 3 года назад +5

    I recently built Oloro
    Combo/control/Stax, and my playgroup usually has a pretty good time playing against the deck because it puts a timer on the game before the stax get too crazy. they are also a bit higher power level than casual though. When we are playing higher per level decks, The table usually looks something like
    yuriko, Oloro, Krark/Sakashima and Kenrith and it's super fun because we are all on the same page as far as pwr level goes. They don't groan when stasis or winter orb or Suppresion feild or cursed totem or Void mirror or blind obedience or authority of the Consuls or teferi or Kambal or any other staxy peices come out. Instead they laugh and the game becomes more interesting. I think what I'm trying to say is as long as you are playing your Pwr lvl 8 decks against decks that are equivalent then everyone has fun (most of the time) but it also sucks when you are new or less into magic and you sit at a table with some crazy decks and get boned every time. Talk with your playgroup and don't be that guy that just wants to beat eveyone down everytime. Enjoy yourself and enjoy your friends :)

Surprisingly it has won once via Approach of the Second Sun. :P It is a good test deck to asses the power of a new deck brew. The other one they kill on sight is my Olivia Vandelkin, because I will take their creatures from them. If I take a creature its a key one for their deck to stall their deck or so I don't have to keep dealing with triggers for it. I often don't attack them with their own creatures I use it more like a detain.

    I would like to add to your list.
    Jhoira, Weatherlight Captain: for similar reasons to Narset and Chulane combined
    Gaddock Teeg and Grand Arbiter Augustin: Superpowered versions of Kambal
    Morophon the Boundless: His deck will include all your tribal cost reducers like Urza's Incubator and Herald's Horn, then cast morophon and it is basically Omniscience at that point.
    Urza, Lord High Artificer: for obvious reasons
    SIsay, Weatherlight Captain (I actually have this one). My brother put it best "Wizards: we don't like repetitive play patterns. Also Wizards: prints Repetitive play patters the Commander"
    I personally like watching people vent about cards that annoy them, so you should do a video about each of the card types in that line.

    Super new to the format here, and I'm thinking about building Brudiclad from scratch on a relatively low budget. That said, what does everyone think of it in general? Is it a must kill for you as soon as games start? Or is it more of a "I guess I'll deal with it if it starts going off, but its generally off the radar otherwise and I'll deal with other threats in the meantime" type of thing? Looks like it isn't as fast or as oppressive as those on these least fun lists, but that's just me.

    Emrukel decks are hard to come by since you'd only be allowed colorless lands and colorless spells which would be hard to make a decent deck with. Devoid doesn't count for color identity so can use that for the deck either.

    I really don't like playing against wheel decks, especially Nekusar. I'm not going to know my gameplan until after the player wheels, and it just slows everything down so much. On top of that, everyone is almost guaranteed interaction because of the velocity they're drawing through their decks, so it feels like you're almost guaranteed to be playing into countermagic or removal.

    • @NitpickingNerds
      @NitpickingNerds  4 года назад +1

      It is really frustrating to have everyone's hands supercharged, and a lot of the time Nekusar still wins if people don't include enough removal in their deck. Kill Nekusar, get with the plan people! If he wants to win you know wheeling is good for that player and not you!

      @@tonyedwards6073 You could always go the opposite route and play discard tribal instead. Rather than dealing all the damage at once, make them have to topdeck and win via attrition. Slap a Painful Quandary or other similar effects down too and call it a day. I'm sure your opponents will love that it's not a wheel deck!

      As a Nekusar player, just remember that we're forced into the feeling of randomness as well unless we have an active Library of Leng. The only other saving grace we may have is effects like Waste Not or Geth's Grimoire so we're drawing enough cards to be less random.
      Unless we fill those requirements, we're just here to make sure everyone has a full hand, and one life per card is a pretty good bargain considering a lot of newer black effects ask for two life to draw one.

      not exactly. Aside from Thrasios, most of the other partners are rather weak by comparison. They do enable colors, but still, your commanders itself won't be all that strong compared to other stuff with a solid mechanic built in. Is really hard to match the sheer power of Chulane, Yarok, Jhoira, Korvold, Golos or Tergrid via partners, and thats to name just a few, there are plenty of commanders that are both engine and/or wincon with a much stronger effect once in play.

    Surprised to not see Gaddock Teeg on this list. Many of the best non-creature spells are CMC 4 and greater, and depending on your deck, this creature could very well shut it down.
    Sure, there's a few boardwipes that are CMC 3 and below, but many of them are either limited in scope (Slagstorm/Pyroclasm, Perish, Nature's Ruin, etc.), have some sort of requirement that you have to build into (think Dead of Winter), or have a drawback to them (like Bontu's Last Reckoning). That often leaves you with just spot removal to work with, and in a deck like that, Mother of Runes and Giver of Runes are usually lurking in the shadows somewhere.
    Honorable Mentions:
    1. Lord Windgrace in a Stax/MLD shell. (Any Walker + MLD [Obliterate especially] is usually GG.)
    2. Meren of Clan Nel Toth in a Reanimator shell (because it's way too easy to barf out EXP. counters with her).
    3. Jhoira of the Ghitu. (MLD? Check. Paradox Haze? Check. Interstellar Squidbillies? Check. Force of Will for your opponents' Force of Will? Check.)
    4. Jin-Gitaxias, Core Augur. (Let's play a game called "Don't let me get to 10 mana".)
    5. Leovold, Emissary of Trest. (Timetwister? Gross. Chains of Mephistopholes? **_heaves_** I for one am glad it's banned.)
    I'm sure there's plenty of others but I can't think of any right now...

    Have you ever played against an 8-9 power level mairsil deck? It consistently and easily controls the whole board. Plus it is quite hard to interact with because of it's ability to blink itself through multiple forms of removal. It isn't a commonly played commander, so it doesn't receive too much recognition. I've only ever piloted it, but it was so overbearing I had to take it apart cuz no one was happy about seeing it. Just curious to see what your thoughts are. Definitely not the same power level over all as some of these commanders. But it makes up for it in cheekiness.
