- This video is apart of a beginner Deep Water Culture (DWC) Hydroponics series. In the previous episode we talked about getting started and what equipment you need. This is episode 2 and we’ll talk about getting your system setup to provide an optimal environment for better growth. What is the best PH for nutrient absorption, what’s temps should water be in DWC, water level and more.

This is getting to be my newest favorite grow channel. Love the down to earth honesty Dusa! Thank you.
Thank you for the support!
Happy I found your page. I'm about to start my 3erd grow first grow went ok my second was a mess. With watching your videos I feel confident this next grow will be killer thank you.
Love your channel! Awesome videos :) THANK YOU, Javor!
I just started growing in hydro and Dusa Farms videos are very helpful.
Suggestion on the Nutrients: Buy one for DWC (most are), but keep it simple. A and B with calmag and get a few grows under your belt then start tro experiment. Forest Farms for one has a 12 part/stage nutrient system (not sure on the 12 mark). It works a lot better, yes, but takes a lot longer to dial it in.
PH keep in mind should be set at room or operating temp. I fill my buckets with the fresh water I am going to use and let it sit till it's 65-70 degrees or overnight (covered) with the nutrients added. Mix again, check and adjust PH to 5.7-5.9 with goal of 5.8. Swap out. Watch plant for changes and adjust if needed. We should see nice green and growth daily, if not start checking and day two start to worry a bit. I have had PH for some reason go up to 7.4 a few times randomly. Locks the plant out of food.
Hell yeah brother appreciate the advice! Keep up the quality work! Much love from Aus 🇦🇺🍁
Appreciate it! And shout out to ya! 🇦🇺
Your a cool guy!
Thanks for this Video and the first part.
First one I’ve heard mention Athena thank you!!! ❤
Hey happy holidays and and thanks for the great content, what happen to the 3rd video? I would love to see it.
Hey Dusa what’s up man your teaching a old head how to run DWC I should say you make it easy to learn some them guys have ack like it brain surgery lol
Much appreciated for the content happy growing man
Yea man for sure. I’m new so I don’t understand all that science stuff yet and I know people newer than me probably definitely won’t so I keep it as simple as I can
Awesome video brother, and super informative 🙏 Respect to you, Stay Blessed-Lifted..1💚
Always and appreciate it fam 💚🙌
Add some hydro guard to avoid root root
This is interesting too me. On a lot of different levels. A lot of stuff I’ve heard. Some I haven’t. But what I’ve learned the most is most Growers are vague for a reason. Cuz if everyone found out than any1 would do it. I was just hoping for that deeper talk. I’m gonna follow and watch though and if we ever get the chance. I hope it’s a talk.
great info 😎
Appreciate it fam!
Thank you for the time and knowing you amazingly share. I wanted to express my gratidude for the water soliable tip for reduceded salt build up. Question if I may? Cost effective safe solution for my 330 ppm well waters calcium build up. filter less idea no wrong answers. appriciate your authinticity my friend!
In the aquarium world they have a buffer that you can buy you add it to your water at water change time and you can maintain a perfect pH for a few different pH ranges. New to growing marijuana so I’m learning about the numbers that are needed for this aspect. My question is would a buffer that maintain the proper pH is being able to be used in the system. I do this in my aquarium hobby and it makes life so much easier I don’t have to chase pH levels it’s always spot on unless I’m doing a water change. That’s only because you’re adding new water and it’s only for a second or two the buffer balances out instantly.
RO water from Aptus is a great buffer and Aptus is on an other level with bio-mineral nutrients, GH or T.A in Europe with their Tri part is the best value for the bucks
💚👍good stuff
When I first started DWC, in around 2000, the only nutrients I could find was General Hydroponics. I've been using them ever since.
I have "hard" water, so I'm using the 3 part Flora series, with Hard Water Micro.
My pH fluctuates quite a bit, but my tap water starts at 7.5-8.5. Like you, I don't try to worry too much about it unless the plants start looking funny.
Edit: subscribed, liked and shared with my group.
Just a shot in the dark...where did you first hear/learn about DWC?
@@Gh4cv I took a course in Aquaponics in 1998, which uses a pretty elaborate system of fish tanks and Bio filters, and runs the liquid through a series of hydroponic systems. We had NFT, Dutch pots and DWC that the fluids from the tanks ran through. I just adapted using a home made recirculating DWC and General Hydroponic nutrients.
@@robertlussier2944 Cool, around that time I was online teaching people how I was going about DWC, I was wondering if you could have been one of those guys. At the time I said I was growing in buckets because the term DWC wasn't invented yet. It's basically a modified e&f without the e&f. I came up with the bucket idea after moving and my Emily's garden wouldn't fit in my closet. And you're right about GH, I still use them to this day lol I started using them in 95 or 96 when I switched to hydro (drippers).
Hi Dusa... been following for a time and im just trying to make a DWC DIY for the first time... Carving a nest from reused food containers, rigth now. Just wondering, could you use the water changed in other plants? what are your toughts on nuts used or mineral built up? Greeting from Colombia, great channel. Also a skateboarder here, nice to find that you are related.
You could use it for sure. I don’t recommend it but I know people that do with no problem.
Does it not change the PH because you are adding air to the water? I'm sure I've read that pumping air into water will increase the PH. I assume that why it's best to always add solution at 5.8 but allow the system to run at 6.2? I would also assume that it's a good way to tell if you are adding enough air to the system.
Nice video, thanks butty. But one thing about water change. Because the plants consume a lot of water u r continously adding new water. So to say u r in the continuous process of waterchanging. I did DWC and I never changed my water. But I have to sa that I did not have a reservoir so I prepared every 2-3 days new fresh watermixture. Peace.
Water change out frequency depends on how much canopy / size of room Vs size of main reservoir + total water volume of buckets & plumbing.
Smaller tanks have bigger pH, EC and temperature swings. Need more frequent chengeouts needed.
Damn Bro I'm in week 3 and thought about scraping the whole lot yesterday! I did my 2nd water change Monday my roots were so white. The next day I went to check the Ph drift and my roots were brown and looked like shit! My water temps were in the high 70s so i started adding the frozen water bottles and they melted in 30 seconds, so I was asking myself what the fk I was doing and said to myself let em cook stick a fork in me I'm done! Far as the crappy colored roots General Hydroponics likes to use Colored Nutes and the great white is a brown powder that clouds the water both after my water change prob. helped color my roots. I was excited to try this I have 8 plants running 2 each in a DIY 12 Gal Totes with 2 air lines each so the water is rolling.. Using SLF-100 for a cleaner and it has its work cut out for itself with my water temps. I am not going to buy a chiller my totes are not connected. If I ever try this again, I will use 4 net pots 6 inch on a 27-gallon tote with a chiller set at 68 for 4 Autos... But I am pretty sure I will throw this run in the garbage soon as it stinks. I wanted to try something new for the challenge and to try to get massive autos instead of average!! Pretty sure I will be back in Coco with dry amendments and only having to water every 3 days and top dress once. I can say one positive about my DWC they are growing fast seem a little light green but could be my lights, but in week 3 on 5th node with side branching... They are Mephisto autos and cost me $100 just for the beans so I will try to get through the next 8 weeks but no promises lmao
Haha yea things can go great and grow fast in DWC and the BOOM a problem can happen and it all stops lol I feel you on the coco as well, I just bought more coco
Can you tell me if I can transform my dwc system into a rdwc ?
Where the link to the diy?
I change my water every few months or if there is a issue.
Say I love e the channel ..❤
Yesss sirr I saw the other vid but my computer froze when I was commenting the cowboys suck so I guess they do not looking good 🥲 but appreciate the vid a lot I’m still watching it lol but my bubble runtz just sprouted today will update!
That’s awesome fam! And appreciate you for watching. Definitely keep me updated 😁🙌
I change water two times never have had a problem
Do you use ro water?
i set up my tent early to get an idea for the temps i can realistically keep it because i live in a super hot climate. my tent is staying aroumd 80 to 81 degrees, should i try to bring those temps down before i start growing?
Dr Bruce Bugbe says that you dont need ph lower than 6, he says that they now use more like 6,5 to every style they grow at the university. So you right in general, cuz when it rise from 5,5 - it goes to optimal zone. 5.5 is dangerous.
Stay away from that guy. He's just using his status to cash in on cannabis on the backs of unsuspecting growers as he spreads misleading and bad information...then sells you products he wants you to buy. 5.5 is not dangerous, low yes but not dangerous. Either you misunderstood him and got your numbers confused (possible) or he actually said that (probably). Don't be Bugbe sucker.
Should water level decrease as the roots grow? Or just slightly so the bucket always remains full but inch or 2 under net pot?
Nevermind I jumped the gun looks like you covered that.
Since my seed just sprouted when do you recommend putting it in dwc and adding nutes
I’m working on a video for germination and seedlings as we speak, but I personally plant them straight into DWC once they sprout. Also you’ll want to add nutes right away since DWC doesn’t have the buffer like soil
I havent had any issues just topping my plants off with fresh purified water I bought a pump to drain and clean but I figure the plant is happy why change the routine
What dose it mean if ph drops in the res often
It could mean that something is off in the red. Nutes could be too high and plants may only be absorbing the water while leaving nutrients behind. Try lowering your dosage. There could be some sort of pathogen/Bacteria present
I like using hydrozine every once in awhile on my hydro.
Great video very informative
Photos I use half of what they call "Medium Feed." Autos, half of "Light Feed."
Bro I got that same Snoop Dogg cook book 🤣
🤠👍
Anyone use a laptop cooler to chill the reservoir (visa vis😂) putting the cooler under a pot holder to keep those nutrients cool?
Used a beer cooler out of a pub.
Educate em 🤙
