_’Lavender’_ behaves like a charm…until it goes into flower. Then it’s like a pregnant woman. Everything hurts and you have to keep up with figuring out what makes it happy.
I don't know what he expected to happen... No ventilation? Was he trying to fail? C'mon man, you ought to know better. Even in soil you can't do that...
Consider purchasing a combination hygrometer/thermometer, so you can keep an eye on both the humidity and the temperature inside the tent. Fan inside the tent for air circulation and pollination, and exhaust fan to extract excess heat and humidity would also help. Thanks for the video, it also provided information about the setup that I was looking to find.
I think you pretty much hit the nail on the head with the statement that it needed ventilation. That's what caused the issue with the roots, with the mold, and you also didn't pollenate the flowers. They're sort of self-pollenating, but you have to give the flowers a little rustle or use a brush or something to pollenate them. I've found just shaking the bush a little bit by tapping the main stem lightly enough to shake the bush was enough. They also need lots of water, which is why it got so humid. I had an issue with my first big batch of tomatoes... they made my apartment into a jungle. Had to get a dehumidifier to bring that down a bit. They also got pollen everywhere. Really like your channel, though, and it's cool seeing all the different projects you try. Sorry this one turned out a biohazard. I felt bad for you having to clean all that mess up.
More than just ventilating the air. Try exchanging the air filtering it before it comes in, a variety of veg that doesn't grow that big, user friendly fungicide before it becomes an issue, humidity gauge, if all that doesn't keep it down then maybe a de-hu. Had the same issue and found these helpful
Like everyone else has said so far an inline fan would make a world of difference as well as an isolating fan inside the tent also try doing 3 instead of 4 plants that will help as well allowing even more air circulation. Ty for the video I enjoyed waking to it
You had me very concerned at the start when you said it was a fail. I have been growing tomatoes in the pot in pot in pot system under a light and in a room with much success. Plenty ventilation in that room though and I help pollination with an electric toothbrush. So. Many. Tomatoes. Also dont discredit the lack of CO2 replenishment. Thanks for failing so we dont have to!
Never been real successful with DWC myself. They always go like gangbusters for about a month and then end up fighting lack of 02 in the res, or root fungus. NC summers don't lead well to outdoors DWC i guess. I am looking forward to seeing how my wicking rain gutter grow system works out this year. Made a few changes to some found files to mimic some of your ideas. Also setting up some dutch buckets systems inplace of some raised beds that never produced much.
my guess is mold before i get to the end im at about 5:30 i dont see much of anything for air circ or ventilation. WPM or molds. plus being so desnse with out defoliation
The control water level bucket with a float valve is a good thing, it keeps the optimum water level in all the buckets. The problems occur with the PH and nutrients. One needs a good circulation flow throughout the system, i.e. with wider pipes between the buckets. Small pipes like 13mm will stagnate from lack of flow and build up pathogens over time. Use wide pipes with a water pump to circulate fluid around the system.
i run a old custom automated products "ebb and grow" multi flow system (they are now made by aqua farm and/or hydro farm i think) i have had this C.A.P system for 10-15 yrs. thing is a work horse.
Can't beat the $1 price of those pots and I like the saucer idea as a lid. I used the same pots last summer for tomatoes in 20lt Kratky buckets with chunky coco mulch as a medium, as I had it on hand.
How big was that grow tent? When you were in it to disinfect it, you seemed to have plenty of room around you. I'm thinking 5x5? If so, those plants were massive.
I've watched this a few times now. With the RUclips rotation, it must consider it a "Classic" for me at least. A lot to learn from fails as was mentioned below. Ahh,...we loves you Hoocho. Keep on Keepin on!😎💥💥💥
The initial growth was prodigious! (And even later it was going and going...). Do you mind sharing what was the pH and EC of the buckets and of the external reservoir? Thanks for the video!
What PH and EC did you use for your tomatoes? I HAVE NEVER seen roots growing like that! I would have disinfected the tent with a 1% potassium permanganate solution in a pump-up sprayer. KMnO4 is really an effective fungicide.
Excellent video, and man did they reach for that LED! Please consider making an in depth ventilation solutions video, would be nice to hear your thoughts. I just run an little 10 cm USB fan (facing up) in the top hole of my 80x80, and seems to shift enough air for my Pepper. Hope the clean went ok!
Think about how many litres of water are transpired through the plants each day, multiply by 1000 and that's the volume of water vapour entering the tent each day. Without adequate ventilation it's guaranteed to incubate molds, fungi and pests.
Holy crap! getting major Dino Crisis 2 flashbacks with this grow. Really wanting to see when you refine this setup. i reckon it'll kickass once its refined.
For the benefit of new indoor gardeners, having NO Ventilation (O2 & CO2) equates to NO Food and/or NO Light, the tripod of life. One environmental factor is as imperative as the other and without the monitored and controlled presence of all three seriously attempting any indoor garden grow is a total waste of the other resources used in addition to time, regardless of the grow system employed, hydroponic or organic, or the cultivar grown.
wooaaa. stuffy in there eh ??!! > to help with mold spores use a normal vacuum. Most have hepa bags. At least it will keep the spores out of ur face. lol, a little more humidity in there and u coulda turned the whole thing into a DWG >> deep water grow_tent
Thank you for putting this up, mate. I see you had already made a dwc vid. A proper Dr. Herbal Frankenstein 😂 An experiment to see what will happen if you just leave the poor bastards alone and uncared for. Look on the bright side. You got two green tomatoes out of it 😂
I think ventilation and some pruning would've made a massive difference, it works with "lavender" apparently.
Ah the old “lavender”…
_’Lavender’_ behaves like a charm…until it goes into flower. Then it’s like a pregnant woman. Everything hurts and you have to keep up with figuring out what makes it happy.
also it was crowded and the vines needed support, try 2 instead of 4 and prune the armpit suckers
I don't know what he expected to happen... No ventilation? Was he trying to fail? C'mon man, you ought to know better. Even in soil you can't do that...
I've struggling to find good 'lavender' seeds in Melbourne lately.
A great way to produce two tomatoes. Exactly what I was looking for. ✌️
My go to video when I am making a recipe that calls for 2 tomatoes but I only have 1. get the seeds, follow video, continue recipe. EZ

I love seeing the fails as mush as I enjoy the successes. Keep up the good work
That light looks amazing
This had to be on purpose surely, was very interesting to watch the plants grow so much at night they really stretch

I'd love to see some pics if you've got any, flick them up on the subreddit or FB

DWC worked good in my shed in NC

Should be titled "when nothing is done right, what do you expect." Hopefully he got his tie straight without breaking the mirror.
Back to basics. I've done rookie mistakes with leaking nft pipes. Still struggling with this.
What product is used to disinfect the tent at the end? What's a good product that won't hurt future plants that go in the tent?

can suggest any Australian made lighting companies? If any exists.. Cheers

Any update to this dwc? I saw the krakey method but never saw an update to this which is what I'm interested in
What was the nutrient that you used in the backs there 👍👍
Great experiment. Thanks for sharing, i think it would be fun to do with a youth class!

Did you ever check ph or only in the beginning?
Doing something similar rn

Get a few cheap 120mm PC fans, put them on top of the tent. And use a 5 to 9V Power supply. They have more than enough airflow and are very silent 😉
Absolutely crazy
What's the song??? It's got a great beat.
Try taking the laterals off
Inline fan and clip fan along with trimming them so they all can get light. But wow yes fans fans fans.
did you do it all wrong just to show us or did you not look in ya tent for like a month or 2 ..
Holy crap! getting major Dino Crisis 2 flashbacks with this grow. Really wanting to see when you refine this setup. i reckon it'll kickass once its refined.
haha im glad i wasnt the only one
Just open the tent and inspect grown tent weekly.

the moisture's supposed to be in the buckets mate, not the tent itself lol. classic how not to right there, awesome
This is super confusing on how all that growth good or bad with just one tomatoes ?
No ventilation not good Thanks Hoocho
How this guy doesn't get tip burn is beyond me
wooaaa. stuffy in there eh ??!! > to help with mold spores use a normal vacuum. Most have hepa bags. At least it will keep the spores out of ur face.
lol, a little more humidity in there and u coulda turned the whole thing into a DWG >> deep water grow_tent
I’m calling code enforcement lol
Lol. Deep water culture? More like deep aeroponics culture air roots like a rainforest. If you can defeat the mold, ...
They look like typical dwc roots to me, genuine aeroponic roots are completely different.
Use Hydrogen Peroxide in your water solution. It helps prevent a number of things
got mold poisoning just watching . LOL
Way to crowded in there. One plant would've been way more awesome. Still a good video though thank you! 👍👍👍

You messed up wiping your tent with chemicals....
😲
This was so predictable. Why use electricity for an indoor tomato grow when you can grow them outside as they have next to no monetary value?
@@lickcarpet I see my reply to you was removed. Did it upset you? Boo boo 😭😭😭
Its advantageous to start them early indoors ( a couple of months) so they can make full use of the entire outdoor growing season.
LOL
I “liked” this… but I hate it so much. 😎
Someone hook that man up with a exhaust fan !! I'm thinking you must be looking for a new "fan" sponsor to go with that light !!
Let me waste your time.
I would never emulate you wearing a mask
who does the rad music in this and other vids?
