That's pretty cool for the price. You're right that would be much cheaper than the mods for screen, speaker and battery. Hope they sort the glitches in future updates.

Great vid tooty, i watched maacho nacho review this aswell, very interesting. I’ve modded a view game boys and it can be quite fiddly, this looks super simple I think I’m going to pick one up after seeing you assemble👍🏻
this is definitely a lot simpler, and better value, given the cost of original hardware and mod parts. BUT this does not have the same compatibility of the real GBC hardware, which means a lot of flashcarts and reproduction/bootleg carts won't work. Not an issue for people with a game collection for GB/GBC, but for someone looking to use an everdrive, or other flashcart, it's worth noting that they won't all work.
Well us old uns anything seems fiddly now, i guess alot of it is just practice and experience, id be way more confident next time and could have it built it minutes i reckon

I got mine last week. I’ve had a bit of a mixed experience myself. The EZ Flash Jr. does not like it with the openly available firmware. I had to use the beta firmware on the flash that’s no longer available for it to even post with my SD cart. Might pick up an everdrive to since that seems supported if not simply acknowledged in the online patch notes. For what it is. It’s a fantastic value. If you’ve got your old carts with functioning batteries it’s a blast. Inspired me to replace the RTC and save batteries on my old Pokemon carts and even dug out the mega memory card and GameShark for good measure. If I’m just going to play one game I dig it especially if I just want to toss it in the backpack for breaks at work. At home I prefer having access to my library on the steamdeck all in one spot and not swapping carts or keeping track of the carts on the desk or nightstand. That said. I’m probably picking up a few of these as Christmas gifts for my sister and cousins.
Ah see im not in the flash cart gang so cant really speak to that, i would say that most compatability issues can be fixed by software so a firmware update is always possible!

They always make it look so easy don't they 😄 It seemed to go ok though. Just be cautious about using metal objects to push battery connectors home. It can short the battery, which is dangerous with lithium batteries. Best to use a plastic prodder thing, or KFC skewer.
I did mine yesterday - it’s a good piece of kit. I noticed that in the menu the battery icon flickers. I thought mine might be faulty but notice yours does the same, so think it’s normal. In games it’s fine.
Yeah i noticed it on the vid too actually not while using it lol, i think its early days and there is always scope to iron out these issues with a firmware update perhaps

Your build makes me want to paint the inside of the shell black to hide that gold ribbon cable below the screen. When I get it I think I'll do that. It looks like it would really throw off the design if youre going with a color theme I think.
i have one of these they are ok but some of the games im noticing have glitches for eg super rmario land 2 dx has graphical glitches, i also had to put a little sprip of foam under the speaker as the whole body of the gameboy was vibrating from the speaker even using the rubber ring.
Oh right cant say as ive had the sound issue, have you checked for an updated firmware there were some know gfx glitches with certain games Pokemon springs to mind
Did they fix the game speed on these? i was looking into them a while back and they are slightly too fast back then but tbh you would never notice unless side by side. Cool bit of gear for the price imo
@tootyuk yeah I heard you say just wasn't sure if they had it dialed in 100% yet. It was either just top slow or slightly too fast but you really wouldn't know unless side by side 100%
You modern tinkerers, I'm old school so original all the way or nothing, I'd probably change my mind though if I played gb games on an og system nowadays haha

@@tootyuk would just like to thank you buddy for your video it really helped me build mine I tested screen without battery connection by powering on the motherboard using a USB c cable The included stickers are for isolating the bit of copper at the front and the back metal of the screen Pre threading the screws beforehand was extremely helpful information install of the fpgbc was straight forward and I installed the 3 screw no problem thanks to pre threading posts The longest part of install for me was the battery connector it’s a pain in the ass to fit- remove spring and use something plastic or wooden to avoid shorts Other than that fantastic device with a rather tight power switch like yourself Delivery from china to uk was 7 days and was delivered by yun express/ Evri No import tax and shipping was free and fully tracked Awesome price and stellar bit of kit I flashed Nintendo bios to it and installed in a uv shell I’m well chuffed with my results Speaker is blooming loud really good bang for your buck and happy to confirm the cheap clone gb everdrive on Ali express works fantastic on it no issues using it on the fpga after flashing Nintendo bios on the fpgbc available on GitHub under “patched bootloader / update.bin 😎

From what i know of the IPS screen mods this is worlds apart in terms of difficulty, next time i could have this done in a matter of minutes i reckon

I did mention the speed Kev, tbh at stock it seems fine the "slider" for the speed is daft as there is no ref point as to how fast it actually is
