Finally a channel where its just straight to the point, hating this new trend of vlogging mixed into a guide where you have to sit there and wait only for a 4 minute guide in a 14 min video. Thank you guys just subscribed.
Agreed even if he could speed it up a bit more imho, he talks kinda slow and repeats a bit too much. Better have more infos than less but this could have easily been a 4-ish minute video. Still loved his tuts!
bro just olie and keep your weight directly ontop the rail. standing tall and square with the rail is key. practice without your board hopping onto the rail while standing square and balanced. after when you're comfortable with the feeling, apply the same feet positioning/balance while you get into the 50-50 on your board. If you can 50 squared rails, then I'm positive you can do rounded rails. rolling faster may make the lock in/grinding process smoother as opposed to going slow. dont even overthink it, just focus on getting on and staying ontop of the rail.
5050 on round rails are easy if you lock your trucks the "crooked" way. (Back truck on front side of rail and front truck on the backside) this lock in is supposed to be done right after you get on the rail. Lock this way especially for going slow and learning. The biggest tip is to just simply stay on the board. You'll come to find that you're your own worst enemy when it comes to a full send.
I was able to lock in for the first time yesterday, but friction had the best of me and I ran out of momentum and had to jump off my board. But damn is that a satisfying feeling when you ollie onto the rail and hear that loud smack of metal on metal!
The first time I ever tried a 50-50 on a rail was this flat rail we had. I figured I can 50-50 ledges, no biggy. So I roll up, ollie on and before I knew it the board had shot out from under my feet and I fell backwards onto my back. It scared me off rails grinds for months. So remember kids, make sure that you ollie onto the rail in such a way that you will be able to maintain your balance once trucks meet the rail.
Exactly this. Has happened to me a few times, also the opposite way, with the rail almost onto chest. I was afraid to 50 round rails for years. Now I make sure that my centre of balance is straight on the rail, so even if I land bad onto the rail, I don't slip out and just land on my feet (given that the rail is lower than my waist).
Same here, someone told me to just think about it like your doing a ledge. BIG MISTAKE. I tried locking in like a ledge and pushing my legs forward and my board shot out from under me and I landed on my lower back with my arms and legs in spread out LOL
I've recently found out that actually as long as back truck is locked heel-side (i.e. centered weight distribution), front truck locking side really doesn't matter (consider for 5-0 technique). Hope this helps.
Thanks for the support guys. Btw the longer in-depth videos would appear just like my normal videos except require a small fee before viewing. Once paid you have access to that video forever
SKATE HACKS I think you should keep your vids free and use youtubes monetization option if you haven't been already. Maybe make Skate Hacks merch like shirts and stickers? Those will help spread your channel and you can more money off of it.
Would they be downloadable or would I have to pay RUclips for them? If they're files you're providing for download that would be awesome. I'm always down to get more in depth instruction.
Idk if I've left this comment before but your tip tricks are the best on RUclips. Best actually explanation of the physics, foot placement, probable errors, tricks to learn first to make it easier, how to jump and land, everything honestly you always reference different scenarios too to apply the trick with and yeh man. Thanks. Your vids have helped me a lot. Much love
That would be really great honestly. You're the only RUclipsr/skateboarder that has explain how to do a trick very detailed. & it all depends on the price as well if it's less or up to a $1 I would take that deal . But weather it happens or not I'll still watch your videos and support you bro !
I would pay for more in depth tutorials. I think online coaching would be cool too, where people could send in a video from multiple angles of a trick they're having problems with and you would give advice, practice steps, etc. I'd be interested in that.
Yeah, I've been skating for quite a while now and have landed most of the tricks you teach on here but I find your explanations super helpful anyway and I wouldn't mind helping you out in return for more, you deserve a larger viewership anyway thanks for the video!
wish this channel had been around 15 years ago! I could probably start skateboarding again and progress a little further than I had, with the help of these videos.
i would love to support the channel for more in depth videos i bought your kickflip and heelflip one and it helped a lot i like to listen to what you have to say
Great video! Another tip to add to this that really helped me learn them recently, is to lean back on your heel side more than you think. I kept having too much weight on my toe side, which makes sense cause it's less scary falling face-first, but this meant i was never really locking in and always slipping out. Such a great feeling when you get it though!
Tried this today. Its not as hard to balance as you would think. You don't really need a special technique to grind unless you are trying to do a long one. Also whenever I missed the rail it went into a board slide (at a weird angle). I would encourage anyone comfortable on ledges/boxes to try this.
Can u do a vid on the heelflip that would really help me i know kickflips but want to do heels so i got down all of the basics and also u helped me learn my basic tricks when i first started skating so don't stop and keep up the good work:)
Josh Levesque Half of your flicking foot sticking out and pop foot on the middle to heel side of the tail. Pop, jump kick out and you should be fine. Works for me and im told i got poppy heel flips.
I just tried this on a round rail for the first time surprisingly landed a crappy one second try popped off the other end but when I went for a longer more controlled on I slipped out cause I tried locking in on my heels. Wish I watched this first
I have a problem with my 50-50's on rails now. since i moved over to 149's trucks (8,25 board) i lost all control over them, and no mather how hard i try, to control and get balance, i turn sideways or my board just flips on the rail. It really makes me fustrated, because i used to have 50-50 on lock, i could combine like 3 rails and ride it out and down handrails, with no problem. so i hope these tips will help me out.
i noticed a lot of skaters do this now, i never really think about it but when i watch my videos i lock in on round rails like this, the other day it took me 3 tries to 5050 the venice 8 stair rail which is weird but when i locked on i locked on like this...
Ollie to nose manual. I can nose manual, do tons of tricks in to regular manuals, and do nose slide/grind tricks. I figure I should be able to atleast Ollie in to nose manual, but I’ve been struggling.
When I lived in Baltimore there was no shortage of rails that were installed in cement fast forward fifteen years and most rails at parks near me in Virginia have stabilizer feet and they throw me off because i turn in to get closer to the rail avoiding the feet I'm at the last foot of the rail HELP. I know just ollieing before the feet works. I'm 35 getting back into it and committing to an entire rail at first without the confidence to lock in on a shorter grind messes me up.
I literally just learned 5050 on round rails today before you posted this video and it took me forever but the longest one I did it was a 7 feet one almost my whole rail
I'd be more than willing to donate $1 for access to a video that taught me how to land kickflip/heelflip every time. I'm interested in the other things you listed a well. you should do it!
Its easier for you to lock in on a skinnier rail because of the amount of wheel is locking in on the sides and keeping you safe, which makes a bigger/thicker rail harder to lock in on because of how little of your wheels is in the contact with the rail and you have a bigger chance for one truck to fall of. Bigger sized wheels can make it easier to lock in (53-56mm) and smaller a little bit harder (50-52mm)
lipslide is easy but scary, try on a short rail and lean forward. its really easy. don't try it if youre not going to go through with it, easier than 5050 at times

Genius comment
Andre Avila facts john hill clickbaits and gets to what the title and thumbnail said at about 2/3 of the way through.
This is helpful, I've been skating almost three decades and am still intimidated by round rails.
Same but Im still not fucking able to grind on round rails

You have the best tutorials really. If you would make a recompilation of all your youtube videos in one compressed folder file I would buy it :) !!

Josh Levesque learning ollie north helped me a lot with both regualr and sw heel
thats was a sweet sweet tip!!!
Thank you you read my mind😍
I always rode tight trucks, I can see how loose trucks would help with the pinch... this works even on pool coping
5-0 a round rail please
learning 50-50 with both trucks on 1 side helps imo, you have a better feeling for how it will work that way with 5-0's
Denzel Bakker I personally do it the way I fs 5-0 a quarter pipe. Lock in heel side like you would on a quarter. Hope it helps.
Awesome video
i really need this video thx
Does the counterweight technique apply to half pipe coping?!

This is the best lock in for 5050 tbh because when you got your weight both in the heelside theres a rise for slipping back
I tried them at the park. Almost landed one this time! This vid definitely helped with my commitment.
Would it matter if your trucks are tight or loose
I would definitely be interested in donating for more in depth videos

How do you only have 4 thousand subscribers?
this method is solid. just doesn't look as sleek as locking both trucks on the same side.

Are you skating Servant Shoes?
So how do you do a grind with one truck only on a round rail? 🤔
Hell im 38 turning 39 and I still don’t like grinding rails flat or round ... I can but I don’t lol
round vs square rails your opinion
Do. you have Products to buy already?
Do alpha flip trick tip, that trick is crazy.

Are you into wallies and pole jams?
Does the size of the rail Make a difference when learning this? Like a skinny round rail or a fat one?
Its easier for you to lock in on a skinnier rail because of the amount of wheel is locking in on the sides and keeping you safe, which makes a bigger/thicker rail harder to lock in on because of how little of your wheels is in the contact with the rail and you have a bigger chance for one truck to fall of. Bigger sized wheels can make it easier to lock in (53-56mm) and smaller a little bit harder (50-52mm)
Amazing. I ate SHIT 50ing a circular rail last week. Landed on my shoulder lol.
Now i'm hell bent on getting these, revenge style
Scared to do kinda lip slide, or slip the rail and fall backwards. Scary as hell
lipslide is easy but scary, try on a short rail and lean forward. its really easy. don't try it if youre not going to go through with it, easier than 5050 at times
I can get on the grind I just can’t get off
Both trucks same side, under heels.
that heelside lock in where you lock in both trucks on the same side really only works for bs 5050 and you have to be on your heels not your toes
I suppose this would also work if you have a rail that is flat but very skinny, like a 1.5" wide rail? Anybody ever tried this?
We’re can I go to buy the video
