- A new video on the Witcher franchise in Unreal Engine 5.
This will probably be one of my last video's on the witcher, but who knows. It was quite a lot of work to get everything working and recorded. Probably most of you wont read this disciption anyway, but here's some context on the cheracters:
Metahumans is quite limited on the hair at this time, so for Regis I used the hair cards of the game. It looked quite blend so I did use a special hair material for it. But the Grooms (hair) of Geralt and Ciri look a lot better.
This is made by a fan and not someone that works in the game industry. This isn't official artwork or anything by CD Project Red, I don't even understand why some people might think that.
For the people questioning why I added a small watermark, that's because apparently some people like to download a video and repost it on their own channel, like it's their own.
I hope you guys like it.
So for some people to understand, because most won't read the discription anyway. The characters might look different from the game, because of the camera used to record this. The video uses a 85mm focal lenghth, while a game normally uses a FOV slider. Most games use a FOV of 90, which translates in photography terms around a 20-24mm focal lenght. So the faces in the video might look wider than the game, faces especially close-ups can change drastically by changing focal lenghts. In photography or video's the focal lenght for close-up headshots normally have a minimum of 50-85mm and higher. This makes so much sense, I was wondering why Ciri's face looked "wider". Fair play some detail in here - nice one
It's fine to not make a perfect recreation right away. The problems are the facial features, but it is understandable that this is difficult to do. Camera is not the (only) reason.
This would make sense if Witcher 3 was a first person game. But there's no FOV slider, and FOV is constant in cutscenes, so I'm not sure that's the reason Ciri looks worse than the others (since she's the only one that doesn't look as good)
@@TheDaifalteur What facial features do you mean exactly? The hair is different, which makes a face look quite different, but the face model is 98% the same as the one in the game. I used the mesh to metahuman with the ingame model, and baked the textures of the original on the Metahuman. The textures are a blend of the originals, metahuman and some small fixes. Other than that the animations are more expressive as the game.
@@aizen_rhyme_schemes It doesn't matter if the game is a first person or 3rd person, the FOV still changes the look of a game. Witcher 3 uses a FOV of 60 for exploration and horseback. I don't know what fov it uses for the cut-scenes, but looking at those it defently isn't using a equivalent of the 85mm focal lenght, because that means the fov would be around 23-28. Not quite sure what you mean by looking worse, or not looking good, because that can mean anything from textures, to animations, hair, etc... Like I stated above, the 3d model itself is 98% the same as the ingame version.
I swear, every time I hear a Witcher soundtrack I feel the same void when I finished the game for the first time, I don't see any game coming close to my heart as this one

Regis looks PERFECT! Geralt is almost there and Ciri needs a bit of work, though I still find it really impressive and I'm very grateful that you're doing this!

@@kapsyvoneisenberg8735 i mean... the Game came out in 2015, lets assume the game world didn't just freeze up and charakters aged in that time frame, so she would not be around 28 years old... I think she looks around that... sure the white hair would let anyone look older... and that scar is not helping either...

Ciri's lack of aging features shows the graphical weakness here, skin texture. She look's airbrushed due to lack of skin resolution and depth.
I hope they've been conservative to not disappoint console users, that PC capabilities won't get downgraded with consoles. I pray.

Regis became my favourite character, and he wasn’t even part of the base game! Blood & Wine was probably the best DLC I’ve ever played.
TW3 borrows heavily from the books for its storylines and makes TW1 and TW2 largely redundant.

I Know Geralt’s Story is finished, But I loved his stoic Charm as A Man who is just as good as any hero but chooses to hide it since it’s easier for him. Such amazing characters & a Incredible Storyline. The Wild Hunt will always be the Standard for the Witcher Games.
A lot of fans want him back on the next witcher game but I feel like if they were to bring him back he would get the Joel treatment like the last of us 2🤣

Oh hell no man, I hate that Ubisoft shit. We need a well written character like Geralt and is a Witcher, not a mage, not a sorceress, A Witcher! And we all know that only men can be mutated witchers. And most of them don't even survive the trials.
Seeing Ciri like this has a very similar effect on me to when I saw Ellie's redesign from the Last of us Part II for the first time. My immediate reaction is to think "That's not her". Then you look closer and feel like _it is her_ but somehow brought into a higher dimension, like going from 2D to 3D, or from 3D to 4D. Some people will say she's not as pretty, but that's only because the stylised and somewhat cartoonish doll like face is replaced by something that looks more like a real woman, imperfections and all.
it's not her because it's the only model he didn't strip directly from the game but made a slightly modified unreal metahuman, it still has the same hairstyle as metahumans tho, and shaders of the eyes / skin is very easily recognizable from metahuman's base.
@@Tigerhearty No it's not, Ciri is a metahuman model made by using the ingame models as a reference, same goes for Gerald and Regis. The eyes of Ciri are nothing like the standard metahumans, and can't even be made like that without changing the textures. Same goes for her skin texture with the scar and other details. Metahumans doesn't have scars or anything like that.

Man, I love the soundtrack to this game. Every time I hear it, I want to play the game again.
i'm actually playing the Blood & Wine DLC , man, it's a game in the game , this is a masterpiece on its own , and Geralt sarcasm and phlegm is always on point , and i love the touch of humor in the cemeteries and all the funny epitaphs on the tombstones...
That 3:06 facial expression of Ciri with the right skellige theme in the background hits so hard..
Geralt’s beard looked like Olgierd’s from the last video, Regis definitely looked like he is a video game character (in the games people can’t distinguish vampires from people), Ciri was starving most of the time, yet her cheeks looked like those of someone who’s never missed a meal.

The soundtracks in the game are unforgettable. Just from hearing them i feel as if im walking through the grassy fields of Skellige again. Truly magical.

When you play a game like the Witcher, and you try to immerse yourself so so so so much so that seeing Ciri fills you with so much boisterous glee, it hurts when the saga ends. It has been a long time since I finished the series after reading all the books. I know Ciri looks a little older here, but time wise, I feel like "I haven't seen my daughter in 6 years. Look how beautiful you've grown."

These were amazing. Their eyes and the scars were my favorite characteristics although Geralt's hair was fantastic too. Perfect soundtrack choice. I'm sure it's a lot of work but fingers crossed for more characters...Eskel would be interesting with his facial scars.

Ciri's eyes are accurate but her face shape, especially her sharp jawline are missing. Her face shape fairly resembles Emma Watson so that could also be a reference

Wow, really great job done since the first version. Geralt is very good now with that cat-like eyes and scars. Also hair looks very nice. Elixir version is almost there, I think it needs more black veins all over the face. Regis looks very good, but still too young. He is 400 y.o. with something in books. Also hair looks a little bit plastic. Ciri eyes are really close to original, but her face might looks better. She has thin face, more elvish-like face. Still amazing work, keep going.

2:23 dammit, for a millisecond there I thought Regis was going to start lipsynching along. Would have been a terrific opportunity to show his facial range.
They all look extraordinarily and when you think about how many people actually work on a game this could be veryy good

Geralt on the other hand looks like old Olgiert.
Ciri seems older and with fatter cheeks or rounder face, than in either game or cinematics.
Doesn't have the same feel as the Red Engine and the characters are quite different, but the detail is amazing.
This gets me excited for the next Witcher game tbh
this design of the cgaracters from the witcher 3 is so well done on Unreal Engine 5!! its better than the official release from cdproject on the same characters and engine, here i recognize all the people who are showed

The only thing I don't like is the hairstyle of Geralt and Ciri, would be nice to see it again with a different hairstyle.
Regis looks the best. Geralt also looks very good now. I remember your first version of his face and now it looks much much better. Ciri is not bad but could be better. Her face looks a bit too round in my opinion like she is more fat on her face while looking from front or something I'm not sure what exactly is it but does not feel quite right.
Ciri looks not only wider, she also looks manlier. She has wider jaws in comparison to the forehead.

I am not sure what am I looking at? Did you just made them from scratch using unreal metahuman, or is this some kind of import from game files into unreal engine? (I know metahuman is specifically mentioned in the descriptions.. but I don't work with it.. so.. I don't know, mby it can import mesh and just animate it... that is why I am asking)

Ciri could use a little bit of work. Don't misunderstand what i am saying though, I applaud the effort, I do.
Cir's face isn't that round, and her cheek bones aren't that wide. Also, her face is slightly smaller and her eyes are slightly bigger.
If you would have read the explenation, you understand why it looks like that. The head is actually almost identical as the game. I know a lot of people might think otherwise, so will post an updated video where it shows a comparison with a lower focal lenght.
