I drove LR Defender (job and my own) for 30 years. Wrenched on them (built one from two rescued hulks), when LR decided to leave the off road market, I was devastated. I'm now old enough to spend money on most any vehicle. Sir Jim thinks similarly...so when I first noticed the story I put down my deposit and have one of the very first in the UK. It is fantastic.

Boy am I glad I watched this. I’m continents away, but holy shit I feel the same way!
I absolutely love my Grenadier. It is EXACTLY what I’ve always wanted in a truck.
I bought one without ever seeing one. Never test drove one. Nothing. I liked the story and it all made perfect sense to me. Got the first one outside Europe.
Scott and I toured Kenya together in our Grenadiers.
I simply can’t understand the so called “issues” people come up with… but then again I’m glad none of those things are issues for me because it’s been a frickin’ awesome ride so far!

My fiancée was just in Nairobi and had to send me a pic while driving behind a Sela Green with white roof Grennie just like mine, and then passed right by the INEOS Grenadier dealer, Wootton Automotive. INEOS has a full on safari chop shop in Bots.

I've had my Fieldmaster for about 2 weeks now and absolutely love it! Pretty much everything you said is spot on. I love the analog nature of it, in fact the only problem I'm having now is fiddling with the digital central display for the "infotainment" system, that is radio, Apple Play, Bluetooth etc. Just not super intuitive. Otherwise love love love almost everything else about it, the sturdiness, the simplicity, the styling...all of it.

I’ve bought three. Two Wagons and a Quartermaster on order. Sold two heavily modified 200 Series Land Cruiser’s, 2013 and 2021 and a Chevy Colorado ZR2 Bison plus winch extra skid plates…. I have also owned wheeled and welded on to get home every Jeep except a YJ since my first car, a 1980 CJ5. The Grenadier is a Tool, if you want a toy buy and modify a Jeep, but be warned you’ll spend considerably more than the Grenadier ultimately.
Hands down the Grenadier is my dream Car and perfect in every way if it remains as reliable as experience in other markets and testing suggests except fuel capacity and range.
Great review. Everyone who would like to know more about what the Grenadier is and what it’s capable of should watch Ronny Dahl’s and Dirtbox Overland’s reviews and videos.

This is the video I've been waiting for. Love my Grenadier. You can always look past its little annoyances. Overall it's a tank, and a bargain for what you get. All the main complaints you hear are from sedan, minivan owners that just don't want to pay over $80k for a utility vehicle with minimal comfort features. But when you are in the element, you know you are in a sealed metal capsule with a solid drivetrain that will get you to your next destination.

Great comments! I have a 1996 Montero on 37s for serious crawling. But I owned many, 1984-2000 including new 1990. I started the Montero off road community eons ago, and groups still occasionally get together. The prior summer we did a huge Sierras trip, and most had solid axle swaps. A lot of conversations over what's next have occurred for years. I tried 05 Xterra, 2015 4 Runner, and then started driving a Power Wagon and Realized modern tech means front and rear lockers, larger tires, winch, metal bumpers, solid axles.....then the Grenadier came along. The Grenadier is the right vehicle for so many others. Even Navitech came to the Moab gathering the last morning and will be switching out the Iconic L80's for Grenadiers as parts are getting hard to find. Scott Brady had an awesome presentation.

FYI in regards to death wobble, death wobble occurs when there is a failure in the system, jeep wranglers off the showroom floor do not get death wobble, most death wobble comes from modifications to the vehicle or worn out joints as in track bar where it mounts to the frame if it has not been maintained or tightened properly it can loosen up that joint which can create death wobble also bad ball joints can do the same, sometimes faulty steering damper but any solid front axle vehicle can get death wobble it’s not the wrangler in particular there is just more wranglers on the road and most have been modified that have that problem and it’s a very easy fix, I would assume the grenadier when people can figure out how to modify them could have the same problem, it would be nice to see the grenadier changed a little bit from the manufacture so the vehicle can be modified as per taller tires, There’s just not enough ground clearance especially for a vehicle this heavy, it’s an awesome vehicle I love it but for serious off-roaders or even over landers it needs more ground clearance and if you decide to lift it which basically people are lifting it hardly 2 inches which is not enough to gain an inch taller tire and they’re still having pinion angle problems & front caster problems and it’s because the transfer case position is limited.

11:40 In the USA and Canada, you mean? Actually, Suzuki's Jimny, which costs a fraction of the Ineos Grenadier, has a recirculating ball steering, which, I suspect, has been better executed. I bought two of those 5-door Jimnys. It, too, is purpose built. Live axles front and back, and weighs only 1.2 tonnes.

The main aesthetic issue I have with the Grenadier is interior related. I wish they had taken the same level of inspiration from the new Defender's interior (which IMO is best in class) that they took from the old defender's exterior.

  • @BryanPike
    @BryanPike 8 дней назад

It is NOT horse power that is important, is is the fact that maximum torque is delivered at only 1200rpm. It is very cool that you get the zeitgeist that Magna Steyr came up with. You'll have to do a follow up video for the Quartermaster. Down side... they might only get it back by prying the Quartermaster out of your cold dead hands.... You only live once. Love my Grenadier. I think for it's brilliant stand alone design and components that is is a reasonable value.

The truck is more than the wagon because of the Chicken Tax tariff applied to all trucks manufactured outside of the US. And you can tell your local tire shop to balance the steel wheels using stick-on weights from the inside just like would be done on alloy wheels. The old school weights are not a requirement.

Yeah I think the Outbound gets that edge on cargo and on-road, but I wish they did an Outbound in the 110. The Ineos will still win on price though, at that point. That Defender is definitely nicer on road though, no doubt about it.

I own two Grenadiers and have the Quartermaster on order and sold two well modified 200 Series Land cruiser’s I swore I’d never sell. Having the Grenadier I just assume throw rocks at the Land Cruisers. I’ve also owned modified and welded on to get home every jeep except a YJ. I’ve owned four Land Rovers, Series one and two Discoveries, 1990 Range Rover Classic and a 2007 L322 Range Rover. None of them compare to the Grenadier, it is the car I’ve always wanted
Grenadier, travel across Africa, Australia and Mongolia no worries. New Defender don’t drive any further down a dirt road than your willing to walk out.

Three issues with this for me. OK four.
    #1 I haven't driven it yet
    #2 I can't afford it. Well I can, I just don't don't want to spend that much.
#3 It's tall enough that getting my Irish Wolfhounds in and out would be a pain in the ass without teaching then to use a ramp, and then having to then carry said giant ramp all the time
    #4 We don't get the f&*king Diesel!
#5 BONUS - You missed all the great opportunities to drop Deadwood clips in of every character at one point say, "go F*&K yourself"
#6 BONUS #2 - Ronny Dahl did a nice series with the Grenadier if you haven't already watched it.

For what you do, why don’t you own a Jeep Gladiator Rubicon? 60K sticker with black freedom panels, smokers group, Convenience group (heated seats, remote start etc), Technology group (bangin stereo, Nav -hard drive so you don’t lose it when offered, etc) and auto trans.
    Then add:
After market bumper and winch: $1,400
    Wheels and 37s: $3,400
    Regear: $2,800
Suspension lift: (AEV Dualsport RT $3,800 with install)
Canopy and RTT or GFC: $6,500
    That will be $80K.
The Grenadier Trialmaster configured similarly with only luxury feature added is a white roof is $92,030. Because everything, like tinted rear windows, a necessity on a vehicle like that, are extra. Now this does include the winch which is overpriced, but only because it is the only one that fits so you have to get it from the factory. But you’re not done yet. You still need:
    A lift
    Wheels and tires
Because it is really designed for dirt and gravel roads from the factory and not what most Americans consider actual trails.
A sway bar disconnect- because its front articulation needs to be better for real offroading.
Roof rack/ because you will be carrying a lot of stuff on the outside- like your mountain bike which in a Gladiator fits neatly in the bed locked and secure in an Alucab canopy, for example.
A RTT or do the roof conversion.
You’ll be close to $110K. For a vehicle that actually won’t fit your needs as well as the Gladiator I just spec’d. And I can only imagine the mpgs of the Grenadier once all the stuff that doesn’t fit inside has to go on the outside snd you mod the wherls and tires. It’s mpgs START at 14 mpgs before mods. I get 13.8 mpgs WITH all the mods to my Gladiator that I noted. And I don’t care because of the cost, but because of the range. The achilles heel of both is fuel capacity because both have too small of a fuel tank, so any significant decrease in mpgs is a real world pain in the butt. Which then means fuel carriers, strapped to the outside, which then decreases mpgs.
Look I love the Grenadier- well the wagon, I think the truck is butt ugly but to each their own. And I love that it exists. But it really needs a number of mods for American offroading, where we tend to have lots of rocks. Now this is no different than every other SUV/ offroader, even a Jeep. But the Grenadier costs too much before even doing these things compared to others similarly equipped. The Jeep Wrangler or Gladiator in the price range of a 92K Grenadier will be much nicer equipped or, if a Wrangler, have the 392. And the only thing the Grenadier does better is load capacity (slight) and towing (compared to a Wrangler but not compared to a Gladiator Rubicon).
In addition to offroading my Gladiator I use it for camping, mountain biking, SUPing, kayaking, surfing, hiking etc. 90K miles in 3.5 years. I’ve also done all of these things with a modded LR4. Trust me when I say that a pick up with a canopy makes life WAY easier. You can leave it packed and ready to go. Your stuff is out of the elements and locked and secure. You don’t have a bunch of stuff hanging off it. And the best part- accessing your gear from the sides as well as the back is a game changer- changes how you pack and access your gear making it orders of magnitude easier.
Just go get a Gladiator Rubicon. You’ll be glad you did. It is objectively the best tool for the job you need done.

This and the Cybertruck are hamstrung by a very specific brief and both suffered from project creep. If the idea that its just had a bad launch and once people drive one they grow onto it. Well I drove one and it felt heavy, slow was thirsty and wandered. If it was just me there wouldn't be 124 used Grenadiers on sale with less than 6000 miles on the clock here in Europe. I hope you enjoy one when you get one.

youre a bit quick to judge. The heavyness.. fair enough if you dont want that, but with that heavyness comes probably really good durability. Its built stronger than any suv out there and will likely outlast them all. the steering can be fixed with a different steering damper and a change in castor angle ( easy job) even the turning circle can be reduced.
Give this engine a tweak as this guy says and the heavyness of the body might not feel that way so much. AFter all.. BMW's engines are kinda known for their performance and this one has been detuned, so im sure plenty of upside if you just got it back to its base pre ineos state .

Correct these vehicles are for a small minority of enthusiasts. If you are not into serious off roading this is not for you. You are better off buying a street car that looks blingy, like a Defender 90. Or maybe a more dedicated street car is better for you like a cross over thingy. I cannot imagine these Grenadiers in a non off roading country. At that point you are buying it for looks only. Not to use off road and as a tool which is the great appeal. Yesterday my wife did an off road recovery with ours of a full size van half off a cliff in the snow. ( we live off road) On the way home we use the Toot horn because its covered in Bicycles, we overland, we wheel hardcore trails, we river raft, go caving and our retirement home in Colorado will also be off grid and hard core.
