It's actually preferrable to have a charging limit, if you use your laptop like a desktop and don't use it unplugged much, it is a good setting to have.
I bought an acer nitro 5 before 4months.. I'm truely saying, i dont get a good battery performance 😭😭. When i switch on the device, it's 50 nd after 30min, it shows 30%. And in between this, i just transferred just 3movies..
I have nitro 5 i5. In it 3 USB ports. Two are 3.1 ports. One of them works even after shutdown. One of them shuts downs after shut down. So I plug my mouse in the one that shuts down. Maybe you also have a simlar port. Try to use different ports
You might want to look at calibrating your battery, which gives you more accurate battery readings, this is easy to do with Acer care center in the battery check-up section.

Battery life has sunk over time, I hope this improves things. I notice that when switched off the battery life goes down, even after a few minutes

Cooling would probably improve overall battery life.
