When your battery is fully charged, the laptop cuts supply to the battery. So it doesn't matter either you left it on charge or not. However, the adapter will be using some of the electricity. So it is better to turn off the supply to the laptop adapter.
I have Acer Aspire A315-55G-549B laptop, from few months it's not performing well on the battery aspect, it shuts down automatically and suddenly even if it's battery indicator shows 40% to 50% of battery , and when i turn it on after plugging charger it shows 0%. Should i change my battery ..?

Promit Dhar, I have the same issue with the HP laptop I recently bought. There is no way for HP to replace the battery unless verified in the system that there is a battery failure performance. I only use the HP laptop with minimal activities like surfing, watching youtube, and admin tasks.

When you plug the power, laptop starts taking power from the adapter and doesn't consume battery.
