Skoda 305mm siege howitzer from the Austro-Hungarian Empire

- Hello everyone! This time around, I've taken a leap and trying something new with my video format. It's less scripted and faceless while trying to be more spontaneous, as I'm working on boosting my confidence in front of the camera. Bear with me, it's all part of the journey to improve, and I'm hopeful that each video will be better than the last!
The Skoda 305mm artillery unit was one of those few Austro-Hungarian weapons that was up to date and actually outperformed the competition. nothing proves this better than that these guns long survived the empire and seen action in the second world war also.

@@bastiaan7777777 well... yes but now i am trying to stick to it as i realised that i slowly i got derailed to a faceless channel and that is not what i wanted so i decided to change the way i am making my videos and focusing to be in them and get better front of the camera.

They also built steam engines I think!

I have read that the Austro Daimler tractor unit was developed by D. Ferdinand Porsche, who was working for Austo Daimler pre WW1. This tractor used a petrol electric drive.
yes indeed Ferdinand Porsche was working on the the Artillerie-Generatorzugwagen M16, a hybrid tractor towing these artillery pieces. It was a very forward looking concept and nothing proves that better that these tractors were serving in WW2 also.
@@HistoricalHavocHub Skoda also made these vehicles which they called C-Zug. Skoda was the largest shareholder of Austro Daimler.

I've read about Big Bertha shells going into basements in Belgrade, where civilians hid, being unable to flee in time. The memoirs say there was only pink mist left, mixed with rubble.
I visited the the military museum in vienna and there were three pieces on display in regards to this topic that were very impressive.
One was a metal dome from a belgian fortress. The metal was way thicker than one would expect, But there was quite a hole in it.
Tha hole supposedly was made by one of the austrian siege mortars. (I did read that the german howitzers mentioned had a bigger diameter shell, but weren't as effective for a reason i didn't find out)
The second one was a metal dome from an austro-hungarian fortress with a shell still sticking in the metal but it had not penetrated.
On the inside of the dome you could still read "Skoda" 🙂
And the third one: they have a M16 siege mortar in the basement. That they told the germans in WW2 had a crack in the barrel and thus could not be used. With it's 38cm diameter shells that weighed in at 700kg it's even more brutal than the 305, which is already brutal from it's performance and size in the pictures.
-I don't know why, but the YT channel of said museum in vienna seems to have vanished from YT. They had good short videos about stuff.
That dome came from the fortress in Kessel, I live pretty close to it.

I visited one of these fortresses many years ago. It had two armoured cupolas and both were destroyed. But only one cupola is still at the fortress, heavily damaged and broken in pieces. It seems the Austrians looted the less damaged one.

hey! thank you for the topic idea and for watching my video! funnily when i started to research this video (ruclips.net/video/5NsCQl3kQEQ/видео.html) it started as the Austro-Hungarian involvement in Gallipoli but got widened as very little information is around about these units activity and it was not enough for a video. I tend to explore more this topic in the future but its more of a long term plan as a lot of research needed so doing it parallel with other projects
A 12" siege gun that shoots 7 miles, sounds pretty deadly.

hey! thank you for coming this way and watching my video! i do, i am planning to do a video about the Austro-Hungarian howitzers, the next one i was planned to do in these topic is the "38cm Belagerungshaubitze M16" then the "Skoda 42cm".
@@HistoricalHavocHub Please. Do a video about the Astro Hungarian super dreadnought designs from 1916 and 1917. Skoda also planned 38cm and 42cm 45 caliber length battleship guns with the latter weighing in an estimated 110 t0 120 tons and 19 meters long. Would have been a real headache to transport those to the ship yards.

Hello! thank you for watching my video. i cant recall where did i find this very specific footage i am afraid. i have a fairly large collection of video records and original footages i collected during the years.
Thats one issue with big guns , especially in that time period . Without auto loaders of some kind , the rate of fire is terrible . They had issues with that , even in some tanks in WW2 . As some of the ammunition was two piece . That is a smaller battleship cal. gun . Again , at least in naval vessels , there IS , some kind of loading assist .
This is exactly why Czechia is now again one of the richest places in Europe. You always where. There was the Nazis then Communism and now Czechs are about to get their place once again. Czech engineering is on paar with our German engineering!
