    Sketchbooks are a funny thing. Pages that I hated and were a mess at the time seem to change into something better all by themselves when I haven’t looked at them for a while!😊

    Thanks for the encouragement. This was really enjoyable to watch. Yeah, as a beginner artist, the way my work looks isn't what I would like BUT the outcome is like magic - it's kind of like wow this is what happened....So I'm not Van Gogh ---Big deal the world already has one. You're awesome.

    On the topic of making bad art - I think it’s also so helpful to maintain a dialogue with yourself about *why* you think something is bad, or good! Try to figure out specifically what it is that’s not working for you (the colors, composition, balance, dimensions, etc). Sometimes I think of it as an iterative process, and pick what parts of a sketch I would keep and what parts I would change. I think this is super helpful in developing a style too, because you’re really challenging yourself to figure out not just what you like but *why* you like it ❤

    I like the idea of a photo at the beginning of your sketchbook. I used to do it with my journals especially when I was still in school and had those dreaded school pictures. Looking back it reminds me 'which Eveline' is writing the journal.

      Yesss! That’s exactly where the thought came from :) they’re so cute to look back on, even when they felt so cringe at the time!

    Eyyy we have similar wants for our sketchbooks! I also love to customise the cover to make it feel like mine, and work through it chronologically, there’s just something about seeing your skills and style develop over time. I love sketchbooks 😊

    I usually start on the back page and work my way forward. I may just say screw that next time and have a lovely, juicy page like this in the front. By the way, absolutely loving playing in my Onion skin journal! Thanks for letting us know about them. ♥

    Sophie!!! More of these please. It was like getting a nice little chat with a really good friend who was trying to just reassure me that it’s ok to play or even just to try. You inspiring me so much and now I’m off to think of a name for my current art journal ❤

    "practice makes progress"

    I love that you talk about making bad art in this video. Not enough artists talk about it. Bad art is necessary to the artistic process! It teaches you more than "good art".

    You begin with blobination! Blobination is a must have because, if you have vision, you’ll find what you’re looking for within the blobs. And no, it doesn’t say “soft stools,” it says “soft strolls!” Heh! Sophie, my dear, you make me smile! 😊

    Ooh! I love the idea of titling a sketchbook. I see a lot of people number them.... but I work in several sketchbooks at a time so that doesn't work very well. Your sketchbooks are so fun! Have a great day ❤

    • @SophieMcPike
      @SophieMcPike  29 дней назад +1

      I’ve seen the numbering system too! But I’ve kept sketchbooks since childhood, so it’s too big a job to go back and number them all 🙃🙃🙃
