Wow!! Words do express the power. I’m a high school teacher taking a lunch break between classes, I was playing music while I ate. And, now I find myself sobbing into my lunch. Thank you for this.
This made me cry because I have an eleven year old boy and I don't know how I would go through this. I am so glad that they put in giving it to the Lord because that is all I could do. I pray God comforts and helps all those that have a lost a child.
Oh, boy. You have to be delicate with a song like in the pines and you brought it into the modern age in a way I did not think was possible. I could cry.
I'm white, and don't have these same issues in my life. I can't and won't pretend to know how black people feel. But I wil tell you this- This song grabbed me by the soul and made me cry, and was almost unbearably real through the prayer. When I pick up my guitar again, I will have that much more depth to draw from. RIP BB King, SRV, Jimi Hendrix
Today I saw two young black men in Oakland, who videotaped themselves grabbing an old black muslim womans' luggage, and drove off, destroying her cart, and dragging her meager personal possessions away down the street. She ran after the car in vain, while they laughed. What drives people to be mean to the defenseless? Hard to answer for that at the Judgement. In a world of insanity, I pray for reason, forgiveness, and peace.
Listen to this song alot but 1st time video. Real music . .good music in a world of hate. You are an inspiration and a shining beacon of hope in my world to be a better person and possibly change some thinking. God bless you
Fantastic Negrito is a gift to our world! This is such a timely production. Ecclesiastes 3:1 "For everything there is a season, a time to every activity under the sun..." . Special thanks also for the prayer! Fantastic!!
Wise guy Fantastic Negrito, music is a powerful vehicle for truth. Thank you from the bottom of my soul for this music, and of course for the message. So, so sorry for all the pain suffered, by you, and by all the innocent people dying out there in such horrible ways.
Ever since I discovered you, I've been spreading your music to all my friends. I reaaaally enjoy your lyrics and in general, the message you try to send. The video itself touched me in such a way that it makes me reflect on the current situation of african american women in the US. I might not be part of the so called minority, but I can most definitely support the cause. Much love from Peru, Southamerica!
OK I’ve been watching you all morning I haven’t been this moved or is impressed with a new artist since I can’t remember when maybe ever… i’ll be seeing you Friday night BERKELEY
This song this video was so powerful! What a beautiful tribute to our women who have lost their children to gun violence in our community of Oakland. Not just Oakland but all over the world. You make Oakland proud! Im getting ready to post this on Facebook right now. You are amazing!!!
Just experienced your music at Fengaros Music Festival in Cyprus! Your music, musicians, vocals, lyrics, moves, passion are all amazing! No better way to pass your message. Fantastic Fantastic Negrito. Thank you for a beautiful and inspiring experience!
You go straight to the heart! 😻 This song touches me in the same way that Merle Haggard's Sing Me Back Home song does.🤔 Blues music can be played well, but only a few people can make it truly great by having lived it. You are one of those few, Xavier. You've taken the pain and suffering and turned into some good. 👍👍👍👍👍
YES!!! Proud of this song. Proud of this video. Proud to have spent some time at the Studio down 230 Madison. Really dig what's going on here even though I can't dig what's happening in the world right now. Keep up the good work. This is inspiring.
This is the first song I've heard from you fantastic negrito and it's absolutely powerful. It's such an interesting way to get your message across and speaks more than many people ever will or wanted to. Keep it up 👍🏽
I JUST NOW HEARD THIS SONG.. "& IT SPOKE TO ME..DIRECTLY TO ME.. IT SPOKE TO MY WOUNDS..IT REMINDED ME THAT DARKNESS CAN FIND ANYONE, ANYWHERE, ANYTIME BUT EVEN STILL THERE IS BEAUTY IN MY SUFFERING" - EVA BLUNT.:
What can I say, Xavier? This video moves my soul and cries out against the injustice of nonsensical violence against people of all ethnicities regardless of where we live or our circumstances. I own The Last Days of Oakland and while In The Pines stirs my soul, this video slams it home. Thank you for such a profound message that everyone needs to hear. BTW, I'm an internet radio station hobbyist and The Last Days of Oakland is a mainstay in my playlist. And everyone I've turned your music on to has gone out and purchased a copy. Or at least those that I'm aware of. Just thought you should know. Do you mind if I add your coronavirus video to my playlist? Another video with a message that should be heard.
Man and to think about what has happened in the week since you posted this. Let us hope that society is starting to understand the depth of this pain so that we may change things.
I'm an old white guy...... I've heard many versions of this song.... this one speaks to my soul like no other... God bless you and yours as only He can...
The version I listened to the most is about the sexual exploitation of a woman, yet there are many other darker versions. There's been over 160 variations since 1926. It is chilling no matter which version. The reference to his dead brother is devastating. It adds gravity to the message.
As usual, FN's got something worth hearing to say. As usual, he says it so very well. Hit me hard, this one. Next time some moron starts reminding me "All lives...." blah blah, I'll struggle to stay civilised. Great work, thanks.
so inspired by the Leadbelly version, I got a grant to write a novel called "In the Pines." Violence -- gun, police, man on woman, woman on man, affects us all the same. Great work.
Great song, great message, but unfortunately for every young black son killed by a cop, there's 10 thousand more killed by gang violence, I wish you dispute me without calling me a racist, but you can't.
Man. I tell everyone to listen to you, your rendition of this song is too fitting of the times for you to not "blow up" but what our fucking country is doing... is blowing up. like your family did. i love your style. your voice. and well. i dont know what else to say man
I work with FN. This whole journey has been built on the support of people like you. Thank you for helping spread the word. It's hella hard but people are starting to finally understand.
No mother mus burried her son. Mine grandma did he was 18 year but stil after years grandkids born we al now who he is he is always with us till we died to.
My God, the most compelling version of this song I have ever heard. I am so sorry for her loss. Bless you all.
Wow!! Words do express the power. I’m a high school teacher taking a lunch break between classes, I was playing music while I ate. And, now I find myself sobbing into my lunch. Thank you for this.

So cool hearing this on The Chi.
This is a vessel that needs to stay hidden. when the wrong person hears what's meant for you, you never get that message.
As usual, FN's got something worth hearing to say. As usual, he says it so very well. Hit me hard, this one. Next time some moron starts reminding me "All lives...." blah blah, I'll struggle to stay civilised. Great work, thanks.
