Although yes it was his caution for Sam that led to his demise. Remember his mission was not only to protect him but keep Sam away from the Decepticons. So he need to be sure he wasn’t captured otherwise the Earth would be doomed. And yes you can call his concern weakness, Optimus is still as tuff as the metal he is made of and a far better fighter than Megatron ever be.
That moment when you realize the team didn’t arrive on time because they decided to become cars instead of planes/jets/etc 😂

Although to be faire had this been Megatron from the first movie that fight would have gone differently, as well as being much shorter.
In this clip Prime really showed us why he is called a Prime, unlike the transformers part 1 where the writer of the series made him look weak especially in front if megatron. So it was great to see Megatron plus getting their ass kicked.
Only reason megatron got manhandled like he did in this fight is because of his down graded clunky new body he had uneven arms his weapons were out of proportion to his build and his legs werent even the damn size unlike tf1 megatron who had that same body for thousands of years and was a gladiator with that build.

Thats why even a weaker megatron did all the major damage and got all the significant hits throughout out the fight because even in that weakened state he is still leagues above the rest of the decepticons.

I love Optimus Primes combat style. Normally he’s very soft spoken and gentle, but when it’s time to fight he shows no mercy and his vocabulary changes dramatically “Weak!!! Puny waste of metal!!! Junkyard CRAP!!!” He’s a true warrior
For me, this is the best scene of Optimus, even with his death. He was fighting alone, against all those decepticons, using everything, trees, weapons, his ability with arms and legs, to protect Sam. Even with a shot on his chest, he got back to the fight and his death, honorably!
Ahh yes the Forest Battle, probably the second best battle, besides the fight between Optimus and Sentinel

Just so you guys know. Megatron is not a actually weak at all. He looks, fells, appears weak' Is because after TF1' Megatron got Disadvantages, such as the Allspark Shard giving him a brand new body that he's inexperienced with. Plus his new body does not have his Original Weapons he had back in Transformers 1.
Also megatron was basically a far more experienced and more powerful version of inosuke in terms of fighting (my mans was a break dancer spin kicking and punching optimus all over the place) he had 0 flaws in terms of fighting capability and flexibility my mans a MONSTER

This fight is not only my favorite fight in the series (minus Optimus getting beaten) but it also shows how strong of a warrior Optimus is and Dark of the moon. He has been my favorite character since G1.

yeah.. as a great as this fight looks the Decepticons should have been dead 2 minutes in :P Optimus stabbed them so many times and all it took to kill him where 2 hits? Kinda terrible writing. But Optimus got his time to shine :P

Although I didn't care for the second film, this fight sequence was great. I always did think the line Optimus uses about Megatron never stopping at one life was wrong. Prime loved earth so much he'd never allow the decepticons to take any.
The intel the Decepticons need in Sam's head is the location of the only power source that can activate a Cybertron infrastracture which will be used to harvest the sun and rebuild Cybertron.
And obviously kill all life on Earth, so Optimus isn't wrong about Megatron not stopping at just one human life.

This was the first time I saw Optimus die. I remember my dad took me to see this movie back in 09, I was super hyped to see Optimus fight off 3 Decepticons at once, and eagerly waiting for the other Autobots to arrive... only for the hype to stopped in its tracks as my heart sank. Seeing Megatron go for that cheap shot and Optimus fall to the ground, the color draining from his body as he uses the last of his spark's energy to tell Sam to run. It had me in tears.
if y’all ever wondered why megatron keeps falling on his knee? It’s because he isn’t used to his new body when it was destroyed in TF1 (kinda) cause he hasn’t learned all about it. But also in TF2 when megatron was dumped in the ocean scene, his leg and arm part is gone. It’s because back in the first movie bumblebees legs got blasted off so they used the parts from megatron to rebuild bee’s legs.
